I hear that Froome is doubling back to Pamplona between stages to train for next year's San Fermin. It wasn't clear whether he'd be running or chasing.
Shaping up to be an interesting race, this one.
It was eleven more than necessary.

I doubt there's going to be many gaps tomorrow.
Probably won't be till the time trial (unless someone manages a gap on thursday)

The climb to Canòlich is pretty hard, I wouldn't be surprised to see decent gaps there, for Vuelta standards at least.

Great to see Bertie back, i love his style. Now get rid of that inhuman spider and win!
Valverde will cracvk at some point maybe and Rodriguez should not have a chance at Bola del Mundo, go Bertie!
Bad Tour memories are over, this is racing...

It seems that De Gendt, due to a bad luck, had to begin the climb almost in last position - and lost a lot of energy trying to catch up fast in the beginning of the climb.
Jurgen VDB says he's not here for GC as he did not prepare and is 3 kg heavier than in the Tour - he's aiming to get better as the race progresses and will go for a stage win later.

Think the fact that Contador was so desperate to attack yesterday proves that he doesn't feel that good right now, trying to break people already! |

Well,Contador is attacking almost at every possible moment during hiis whole career iirc...i would not call that a signal. Signal is rather a fact that he did not destroy everybody with that, but i hope he will in the 2nd and 3rd week...

Can be a signal the fact that he decides to do a sprint to gain 2 second? |

Watched the highlights last night and it was a fun climb.
First time in a while I have seen Valverde looking so good, I know he did well on Old Willunga at the beginning of the year but to see him attack out of the favourites group at the Vuelta was something else.
Contador showed again that he is a very watchable rider, again and again he attacked. Though this was more like 2010 Tour/Dauphine Contador rather than 2008/9 model - attacks were all to brief. It's nice to have the contrast - the attacker, the wheelsucker and the grinder.
Still four guys come out of it looking best, lets not underestimate Purito's ability on long climbs I think he is big big threat. But he must try something before the last kilo, surely he learns lessons from the Giro?
Encouraged to see large group at six seconds including Anacona, a Colombian not in Sky domestique death grip! Not that Henao or Uran are in a bad place of course but lets see how raw talent can do. In a different way it was nice to see Mollema, Gesink, Roche and Anton also in the mix. Don't expect too much from Roche but Rabo and Euskatel have their parts to play in this intriguing race. Could Roche be Contador's 10th man? Or is this Nico's I'll show Riis I can be a GTour rider?

I can see that breakaway staying clear. None of them is a threat to Valverde's GC lead, so Movistar would probably be happy to let them stay away by like a minute or so.
We should probably not expect the kind of fireworks we saw yesterday. The climb is really easy compared to Arrate.

Aramendia was dropped from the break, but has 2.30 min on the peleton, but around 4 minutes down on the break.

Think the gap will definantly be reduced by Movistar due to Mate being 3m 36s down on GC |

Time of Froome in great shape: 79 days (and beyond).
23. 21 days in the tour and the olympics. He sucked in Algarve, International and Romandie. Got in shape during the Dauphine.
Yeah, he should tell his body that non-racing days shouldn't be considered in keeping/losing shape
But that's exactly what I was thinking. Was it with any other rider, there'd be a lot more comments about it. But I think we've got so used to Sky's abnormalities that it just got 'normal' that Froome could be the strongest at the Tour and 2nd-top favorite at the Vuelta, even if Contador who is arguably the best stage racer of this generation could't do it last year in Giro-Tour.
I think we are all just used to Froome way overperforming for a huge period of time.
Finally got a chance to watch last night's stage. Just incredible. I really don't like Contador, but I won't deny that I've missed him. he just rides with so much panache.
