To the question from the_hoyle:Current CQ rankings leader Nibali is this year's leader for the Tour, Giro will be the task for Ivan Basso, same with Vuelta.
Anyway, here is La Primavera. This time commented live, because i have a chance to be present during the race.Enjoy
Milano - Sanremo
Here is Peter Sagan, Slovak champion, who is said by many, the dark horse right in his first sprinters classic. But is he able to produce the results also in the most extreme tasks for the professional cyclist?Next 298 kms will hopefully answer this question.
Five riders are bold enough to create a breakaway group after the several kilometers, something pretty crazy on this course. These are Izagirre, Jerome, M.Velits, Colbrelli and especially "Little Prince", Damiano Cunego. They are climbing the Passo del Turchino in beautiful Italian spring weather.
The break has reached maximum of its gap of 8 minutes and now, when the Liquigas driven peloton is on Le Manie, it has fallen down to 5"30".
The pack is moving fast and before the foot of the Cipressa, with some 35kms to go, the gap is 2"30". There is no time to watch the coastal sceneries.
Garmin, Sky and Liquigas hard work is paying off and when the downhill from the Cipressa begins, you can just see the leading group in one shot, not so far.
As we are entering San Remo, the group is being caught. And suddenly, Cancellara and Flecha are attacking. Liquigas immediately puts Moreno Moser and Eros Capecchi on the front. Both their leaders look determined.
As the Cancellara, Flecha tandem gets nowhere, there is soon new burst of moves from the streched pack. Chavanel, Terpstra, Vanmarcke. And who is that behind them? I am not sure, but it seems like Vincenzo Nibali! Poggio is his chance.
This move looks a bit better and Chavanel has created a gap, followed by Nibali and Vanmarcke.
Riders are over the top of the Poggio and begin to descend to the Via Roma. French champion is almost caught, but Vincenzo Nibali is looking strong and ready to drop like a bomb from the slope! The pack is led by Greg Van Avermaet, followed by Peter Sagan.
And Nibali's move is looking like it is going to be the winning one. Now as he passes the flamme rouge, he has a large gap to the pack. Behind the motorcycle the sprint is being launched. Moreno Moser is leading-out Peter Sagan, but it is not looking too good for them. Greipel and Haussler for example are in much better position.
But it really does not matter for Sagan and Moser, because up front their teammate Vincenzo Nibali celebrates one of the biggest wins of his career. In the end Sagan finishes 8th and Moser 16th, both very nice results for the Liquigas wonderkids. Greipel, Haussler,Cavendish and Goss complete the top 5, real sprinters cream of the crop
The comment of Avin, the journalist noob (who is becoming leass noobish with his presence in Italy)
Perfect day for Liquigas and perfect day for agressive style of racing. The winner of 2012 Milano-Sanremo Vincenzo Nibali is a well known descender and he showed it also today. Perfect timing and chaotic chase, before the teams organized themselves, combined also with narrow roads were the funding stones for the success of the "Shark from Messina".
Some of the Slovak and Liquigas fans maybe expected more from Peter, but i think 8th place in his first ever monument is quite an achievement and gained experience is worth gold. He has no reason for disappointment and he can enjoy the celebrations of the teammate's win.
It was indeed. To be honest this San-Remo is a bit bugged maybe, ot it was the narrow roads, but nobody in the pack did not seem much interested in Nibali getting away for a while and then it was too late for them...
Btw, we almost missed THIS!
