RadioShack - 2010 Tour de France

Ops forget to turn the smileys off Wink It is fixed now. And I am also happy about Gerdemann, although it is not to realistic that he win something Grin

FreitasPCM
Gerdemann is superstar in PCM. Pfft

Smowz
As I said Gerdemann Smile Intxausti is also that national threat as well, would be an interesting rider to win this one.

Popovich still has a pretty good chance here though its going to be interesting to see if some one can nip away and sneak a gap out from somewhere!

@FreitasPCM
Do not know, but in my PCM, Gerdemann always managed to get a few win in a saison. Not realistic, but nice Grin

@Smowz
Yeah, Intxausti seems to be in a great shape after Paris-Nice, and Gerdemann also not bad. It will be an interesting stage race although there is no really big gun in the field.

23. March
My birthday Smile. I hope it will be a good sign for today.

Other race results:
Spoiler
Settimana Coppi e Bartali
Stage 1:
1.) Denis Flahaut (ISD CT) 1h48'51"
2.) Lloyd Mondory (AG2R) +0"
3.) Andrea Grendene (Lampre) +0"

Stage 1: Salt - Banyoles, 175,4 km
img80.imageshack.us/img80/6830/catalunyastage2.jpg
A typical bunch sprint stage, the only challenge today is the Alt des Àngels, far away from the finish. If not a strong breakaway make it, we will see a masssprint.

Team goals:
- Top 10 (Impey)
- No time loss (Horner, Zubeldia, Popovych, Paulinho)

Favourites: Mirco Lorenzetto, Graeme Brown, Juan José Haedo, Yauheni Hutarovich, Ben Swift.
My tip: I think Graeme Brown, but I do not know sure.

Depart in Salt.

img832.imageshack.us/img832/5900/k2pcm0002.jpg
Lot of attacks at the first kilometers, but after seeing that Kessiakoff want also go away, we decide to force the pace in the peloton.
Kristjan Koren (Liquigas) 3
Aleksejs Saramotins (Colombia) 2
Thomas Peterson (Garmin) 1

img149.imageshack.us/img149/4479/k2pcm0003.jpg
But after caughting them two times (Kessiakoff attacked hard), we let the other go. The single garmin one in front is Kessiakoff, probably he hoped that he can reach the break and try another attack.
Olivier Kaisen (Omega Pharma) 16
Aleksejs Saramotins (Colombia) 12
Matteo Tosatto (QuickStep) 10
Daniel Oss (Liquigas) 8
Fredrik Kessiakoff (Garmin) 6
José Luis Rubiera (RadioShack) 4
Chris Horner (RadioShack) 3
Haimar Zubeldia (RadioShack) 2
Yaroslav Popovych (RadioShack) 1

img176.imageshack.us/img176/9122/k2pcm0004.jpg
The breakaway as they had their biggest gap today. Short after that, the pack started to accelerate.

img535.imageshack.us/img535/2259/k2pcm0005.jpg
Francaise des Jeux seems to be confident about Hutarovich win chances today, they worked hard today. Milram (for Gerdemann) and Rabobank (for Brown) joined them.

img13.imageshack.us/img13/9694/k2pcm0006.jpg
We reached already Banyoles, there we have the second intermediate sprint today. Now a circuit in the city.
Aleksejs Saramotins (Colombia) 3
Daniel Oss (Liquigas) 2
Matteo Tosatto (QuickStep) 1

img29.imageshack.us/img29/1475/k2pcm0007.jpg
Seeing Cervélo, Sky, SaxoBank, Omega Pharma (against their own man in the break) and AG2R forcing the pace in the Peloton.

img179.imageshack.us/img179/5046/k2pcm0008.jpg
The pack in the back, Kaisen, Oss and Tosatto tried an last attack. Obviosly with no chance. Impey, our sprinter in the peloton, had the backwheel from Michele Merlo, both were well positioned.

img521.imageshack.us/img521/5137/k2pcm0009.jpg
AND MASSCRASH IN THE PELOTON! One of the pusher in the front falled, and then it happends to fast. Just one man from RadioShack down, and guess... Daryl Impey, our only sprinter who was good positioned and had good chances for a Top10 Sad

img827.imageshack.us/img827/6140/k2pcm0010.jpg
But most of the topfavourites are here, Sulzberger from FDJ left, Hutarovich will follow him, at the right Galdos, Downing, Ljungblad and Graeme Brown. The crasher were back at the peloton, but it seems that there are no time gaps.

img808.imageshack.us/img808/5669/k2pcm0011v.jpg
4 rider have to give up, all of them are injured.
Kirk Carlsen, broken neck, mid April back.
Charles Wegelius, fracture, start may.
Dominik Roels, broken wrist, end april.
Simone Ponzi, fractured kneecap, mid June.

img225.imageshack.us/img225/9766/k2pcm0012.jpg
2,2 km to go. The sprint begin. The train right has begin to broke, left still Sulzberger and Hutarovich.

img832.imageshack.us/img832/8837/k2pcm0013.jpg
Invisible flame rouge! And it look as it will end in a fight from Galdos, Ljungblad, Downing and Khalilov! Brown, Finetto and Hammond are to far away and are not able to accelerate more. And where is Hutarovich? It seems that FDJ will not get the stage win after their hard work.

img207.imageshack.us/img207/6985/k2pcm0014.jpg
Ljungblad and Galdos get slow, now just Downing and Khalilov in front. Who takes it?

img140.imageshack.us/img140/3799/k2pcm0015.jpg
Khalilov was not able to accelerate, and Downing was able to hold the high speed and get the stage win!

24. March

Vuelta Ciclista a Catalunya
Stage 2: La Vall d'en Bas - La Seu d'Urgell, 181,2 km
img132.imageshack.us/img132/535/catalunyastage3.jpg
The third stage here is already the queens stage of this years edition. No mountain finish, but many short hills and after 110km the Alt de Pedraforca and Alt de la Josa del Cadi. This stage could probably decide the whole stage race, though there are still two other hilly stages and the stage to Barcelona.

Team goals:
- Top 5 / Stay in the front group (Popovych)
- Top 15 (Zubeldia)
- Damage limitation (Horner, Paulinho)

Favourites: Daniel Moreno, Yaroslav Popovych, Daniel Navarro, Bradley Wiggins, Jacob Fuglsang
My tip: Daniel Navarro was already strong at Paris-Nice, and I do not see why he should fail here.

img831.imageshack.us/img831/3109/k2pcm0028.jpg
And here the moment Katusha waited for! Vladimir Karpets with a strong attack. Later, Navarro and Popovach attack and reached Karpets, but then Fuglsang push at the front of the peloton, all three get captured.

The last attack before the top come from Zubeldia, Ardila and Moreno. But how you can see, Astana now lead the pack and also these three rider get captured.

Vuelta Ciclista a Catalunya
Stage 3: Oliana - Ascó, 206 km
img232.imageshack.us/img232/8319/catalunyastage4.jpg
Once yesterdays stage had not really change anything in the overall, we have today another dangerous stage, with the double crossing of the Alt de Paumeres.

Team goals:
-Top 5/Stay in front group (Popovych)
-Stay in front group/damage limitation (Zubeldia, Horner, Paulinho)

Favourites: Ángel Vicioso, Paul Martens, Yaroslav Popovych, Bradley Wiggins, Linus Gerdemann.
My tip: Daniel Navarro. He set a strong attack yesterday, maybe he had just bad luck.

Good news for Popovych: Wiggins was not able to hold contact to the peloton and lost time. Also Seeldrayers, Tondo and Kessiakoff (I hope this will not happend at "Garmin 2011 Season" from Roturn) and the Colombia-leaders Rogers and Pinotti lost time.
Really worse get it now for Beñat Intxausti, he started as a favourite here in Catalunya, now he lost another time 20 minutes.

I have to take a look on Russell Downing, he is still fourth after the hardest stages here. If the he take the other sprint stage, he have a good chance to win the hole stage race. Yaroslav sould calculate now on intermediate sprints,, thugh we have another chance to get the leader jersey tomorrow.

Stage 4: Ascó - Cabacés 174,3 km
img139.imageshack.us/img139/4277/catalunyastage5.jpg
Today's stage will be not as hard as the last two, but the last chance to change anything in the overall so we expect many attacker at the Alt de La Figuera.

Team goals:
- Win / Stay in front group (Popovych)
- Stay in front group / Damage limitation (Horner, Zubeldia, Paulinho)

Favourites: Yaroslav Popovych, Linus Gerdemann, Gilberto Simoni, Vasil Kiryienka, Vladimir Karpets.
My tip: Vladimir Karpets attacked strong yesterday and with a strong team in the back, he should able to win here.

He is in a really good position now. Maybe a Top 3 in the stage to Barcelona and a victory on the last stage, and he could get the leader jersey.
Thank you very much Grin

The Shack: Our last test before the great cobble classics, and just as, our leader will be Gert Steegmans. He is supported by Vaitkus, Muravyev, Rast, Bewley and Selander. Sebastien Rosseler is free but have also to help if he have to.
The Opposition: Not much to say. All big guns are here, Cancellara, Boonen, Flecha, Hushovd, Pozatto, Devolder... Also interesting could be Marc Cavendish, the only really good sprinter here...

Harelbeke - Harelbeke, 200,2 km
img109.imageshack.us/img109/6269/e3harelbeke.jpg
A typical cobble classic. Between the last cobbles and the finish are still 20km, so it is not impossible that we see a bunch sprint at the finish.

Team goals:
- Top 10 (Steegmans)

Favourites: Fabian Cancellara, Tom Boonen, Filippo Pozatto, Juan-Antonio Flecha, Stijn Devolder
My tip: Stijn Devolder has won the Dwars door Vlaanderen two days ago and is also a good bet here.

Lastraaaas! Grin

Wish he can maintain the lead. And that Popo will maintain the top-10.

janne_837
He really deserves the leader shirt. First a good breakaway from him, and now another stage victory... Well, I hope Yaroslav can hold himself there, but he will also try to take intermediate sprints now to get a better position.

img294.imageshack.us/img294/5900/k2pcm0002.jpg
Depart in Harelbeke.

img816.imageshack.us/img816/4479/k2pcm0003.jpg
And here BOTD, with Svein Tuft (Garmin), Francis Mourey (FDJ), Bauke Mollema (Rabobank), Roman Kireyev (Astana), Wouter Mol (Vacansoleil) and Pascal Hossay (An Post).

img442.imageshack.us/img442/2259/k2pcm0005.jpg
At La Houppe, the belgian veteran Staf Scheirlinckx and Hayden Roulsten attacked. Both came away.

img514.imageshack.us/img514/9694/k2pcm0006.jpg
Scheirlinckx and Roulsten pass the breakaway quickly.
E1; +21" Hossay; +35" E2; 4'14" P.

img214.imageshack.us/img214/1475/k2pcm0007.jpg
The peloton after the Kapelberg. Just 59 rider left, including the top favourites and Steegmans, Vaitkus, Rast and Rosseler from RadioShack. QuickStep took the lead to hunt Roulsten and Scheirlinckx, which are 3'38" in front.

img708.imageshack.us/img708/5046/k2pcm0008.jpg
The last helling today, the Knogteberg. And just 27 rider left. Steegmans (THANKS TO THE +5) can hold himself easily in the group.

img217.imageshack.us/img217/5137/k2pcm0009.jpg
And Thor Hushovd with a puncture, so close to the finish. It seems that he can say bye to the victory today. Bad luck for the norwegian.

img338.imageshack.us/img338/6140/k2pcm0010.jpg
15000m to go for the peloton. Just Steegmans stayed from our team. Another danger: Staf Scheirlinckx is 1'43" in front. Can Boonen, Cancellara etc. still reach him?

img835.imageshack.us/img835/5613/k2pcm0011.jpg
And the first attacker here, Johan Van Summeren, Philippe Gilbert, Filippo Pozatto and Tom Boonen. But amazing job by "Spartacus", he chased them all down. Later Flecha with an attack, he had get a little gap.

img152.imageshack.us/img152/9766/k2pcm0012.jpg
And here today's hero, even if he will not win. Staf Scheirlinckx still in front, 51" before Flecha, 1'08" before Group Cancellara! Is it the the first victory in his career for the luxury-teammate at Omega Pharma? His best result in his career so far was a 10th in Roubaix.

img168.imageshack.us/img168/8837/k2pcm0013.jpg
AND YES! Nobody can steal him the victory now. Flecha is too far away, behind him, Quinziato sprint first in the group, Steegmans took his backwheel and they fight now for the third place (which would be a great success!)

img823.imageshack.us/img823/6985/k2pcm0014.jpg
And he can celebrate a deserved win! A great victory for the belgian, who had show now that he can be more than just a helper.

img253.imageshack.us/img253/3799/k2pcm0015.jpg
Amazing performance by Gert! After a perfekt sprint, he has saved a third place for us, a great result which I had never expected!

The first Top3 for RadioShack since I changed the difficulty. Of course it was good luck with +5. A perfekt test for Gent-Wevelgem, maybe we can get another Top10 there.

well done!

Nice 3rd. Not the best profile for Steegmans so 3rd is quite good.

Thanks Grin I am very satisfied with that result.

Vuelta Ciclista a Catalunya
Stage 5: El Vendrell - Barcelona, 175,1 km
img576.imageshack.us/img576/6809/catalunyastage6.jpg
The first easier stage after three hard days, but it is not just a sprint stage. The first half today will be hard, and at the finish an uphillsprint at the Montjuic in Barcelona. A puncheur with good sprint abilities is a good bet today.

Team goals:
- Breakaway / Attack for Intermediate sprints (Popovych)
- No time loss (Horner, Zubeldia, Paulinho)

Favourites: Mirco Lorenzetto, Aitor Galdos, Ángel Vicioso, Russell Downing, Paul Martens.
My tip: Ángel Vicioso is a perfekt rider for such a finish.

After really early attacks, Olivier Kaisen (Omega Pharma), Francisco Javier Aramendia (Euskaltel), Francisco José Pacheco (Xacobeo), Freddy Bichot (Bbox) and Anthony Roux (FDJ) get away and build the BOTD. Kaisen sprinted for the mountain points here.

Attacks in the front group.

img713.imageshack.us/img713/7900/k2pcm0022.jpg
Masscrash in the peloton. Just Jacob Fuglsang fall from the favourites, but no time gaps, but Vidal Celis (Footon) have to give up, he has a broken wrist and will not be able to race until End April.

In the front group, the sprint begin. Who will take the stage win?

And Aramendia can outsprint Pacheco, the other could not hold the speed of them.

The peloton, under the lead from Angel Vicioso, came in, almost 6 minutes back.

No important changes, but we have to look tomorrow at Russell Downing, if he win, he can get the win in the overall. Also we want to get in the break with Popovych or hold the peloton together, to get a better place.
