How cobo can have any future I can't see. he's thirty+ already and now he gets this from nowhere in a field not nearly as strong as a TdF would be.

yeh 30+, doesnt mean anything, maybe top 10, top 5 for Cobo, top 10 for Mollema and Froome I think.

Only Wiggins and Mollema would be able to do a top 10 in the TdF next season from this year's Vuelta performers in my opinion.

Why Wiggins and Mollema and not Froome and (*shudders*) Cobo?

Because I think both Cobo and Froome had the form of their life in this Vuelta and I don't see either of them having the same form again next year in July. Plus the Tour is a total different race.

Time will tell. But Cobo had 'the form of his life' in 2007/08. I definitely can see him holding a great 'form' again, specially if he stays with MatxÃn.

I tend to agree... I just fail to see Cobo doing better than a top 20 at the Tour, although I'd be quite happy for him to prove me and his haters wrong.
However as for Froome, he showed great class to handle the Vuelta, could maybe feel unfortunate to miss out on the win, and is still developing. I'd have as much faith in him as Mollema anyway who has finished 2 minutes down on him in their only head-to-head GT comparison. |

Cobo meanwhile says that he's simply back to his 2008 level. He says that after 2008 he went into a depression and didn't train much in 2009 and 2010, hence his bad results.

You can't really compare the starting lineup here to the Tour, not even by a longshot
Think about all the top GC-rider who weren't there: Contador, Andy Schleck, Frank Schleck, Basso, Evans, Samuel Sanchez, Gesink, Vinokourov and Cunego...
Also both Wiggings and VdB were only there because they were injured during the TdF.
I doubt that Froome would have made the top 10 in the Tour. |

No. Cunego showed that he couldn't keep up with Basso even though Basso had lost a lot of training time to a serious injury and was off form, until Basso came down with illness and lost time.

“Race leader Juan José Cobo was in our team last year but he never fitted. He did his best but he didn’t manage to adapt to our group. I’m surprised to see him riding at this level now. He didn’t win the Vuelta at the Angliru but at Pena Cabarga. Normally, he would have cracked mentally when Froome attacked him. In 40 years, I’ve never seen such a rider able to go in such a quick period of time from very high to very low level." said Eusebio Unzue, manager of Movistar.
I can´t really se why he wouldn't stay with MatxÃn, Kumazen.
When i saw Cobo on the start of the vuelta, i have never seen him so fit, and in the last moutains, i have never seen him that good and so cold in his face. |

Big Disappointement was Nibali. No doubt. I think Wiggins did a good job but he is capable of making at least 2nd place |

Hots
Cobo - did extremely well to win this vuelta with two mammoth stages that pulled him into the jersey. Then the fight he put up to hold onto it was incredible. Much deserved 1st.
Froome - literally unknown before he came into this race, he blew himself onto the stage with a remarkable 2nd place. Not only did he do well in the mountains, but also out rode his leader Wiggins in the time-trial. Might possibly have done better if he hadn't had to support Wiggins. Bring on next season.
Sagan - 3 stage wins is impressive for your first Vuelta. Whilst we all know what a wonderful new talent he is, these wins still show just how much he has to offer for an otherwise unimpressive Liquigas team.
Nots
Nibali - Such a disappointing Vuelta for last years winner. Given that he spent all year in preparation for this race, he failed to do himself justice. Let's hope he does better next time.
Cavendish - After such a successful Tour, I must say I expected more of him than a stage 3 dropout. Maybe I was asking too much yet still a rider of his quality should really be doing better.
Surprises
Monfort - Really didn't expect him to get a top ten finish ahead of leader Fulsgang.
Martin (Daniel) - Really well done by the Irishman from Garmin. Look forward to seeing what he can do in the future. |
