Grosu still in the leader's jersey, I guess. It would be awesome if he could win the overall Grin
Actually there were only two stages so the overall is his.
I'm pretty sure both CQ and PCS were showing 3 stages for this race, but hey, I'm not complaining

Another young rider PCM.Daily pissing their shorts about?
But I ain't mad, he definitely looks very impressive, considering that's his first race of this caliber. |

Great to see Martens winning one of these, he's always around on such finishes.
LOL at that Lotto guy easily riding past nearly everybody in the last 25 metres
(and taking out Vanmarcke in the meantime, it seems...)

Yeah, I went there to see the first laps, near the end of the circuit hill, the toughest part of it. It was quite crowded compared to previous years it seems. One of the guy standing next to me was a guy who won races I took part in in youth categories, and who could/should have turned pro along Guillou & Bideau. It was impressive how he could identify pros from a distance (and turned out to be right after I could check the back numbers on the start list). I can tell the jerseys and know some pros, but nothing like that, especially on a French cup race.
Anyway, on the second lap, the peloton was splitting, with Edet leading the first group strongly on every lap. After three laps only 39 guys were left in the first group, it was clear the others were beaten.
Also, not sure what happened to him, we saw Mondory pass 10 minutes after the last group, he didn't seem to have bruises or anything.
On the second laps there were some accelerations to close gaps. I know at what speed I climb there (15 km/h if I'm going flat out). Seeing the pros accelerate with the big ring is absolutely impressive.
According to reports, that first group split again and a group of 16 fought for victory. Two guys escaped, Gougeard and Kowalski. I'm not sure how it turned out since they ended 1st and 3rd. From the gap I guess Gougeard must have dropped Kowalski, who got caught on the line by the group (it's a sprint on a 3 % slope after a ~1 km hill).
Good to see local riders fared well. Vaugrenard got his best result for a while, Hardy is on form (and has other hobbies than stealing my Strava KOM ), and that Bideau is showing some form after his broken collarbone earlier this year. |

The Philadelphia Cycling Classic - 1.1
Reijnen wins on his birthday, which surely must be a hugely rare occurrence.

someone winning on Reijnen's birthday, think that happens almost every year
I know that's (most likely) not what you meant, but Tuft won the TTT on his birthday. in California it was almost given that someone in the break was his birthday (Terpstra for example iirc)

It's .HC time again, so it's Herklotz time again as well!
The Skoda Tour de Luxembourg is a traditional puncheur-friendly race just clashing with the Dauphiné.
Racing starts tomorrow evening with the likewise traditional prologue which might look flat on the profile, but of course the short lenght of 2.5k distorts it a lot. It is the classic route using a cobbled climb of 480 metres lenght with an average gradient of 12%, so that's already not to be underestimated.
Stage 1 is the only obvious opportunity for a pure sprinter to have a shot here.
Stage 2 finishes on an impressive short hill averaging 13% over 450 metres, the steepest part is nearly 17%. Not long at all, no big time gaps to be expected, but still selective enough to give an interesting result.
Stage 3 has a downhill finish short enough to possibly make the hill before pretty decisive. It's ridden three times at 25k, 15k and 6k to go with 1500m@8% each time, maximum gradient 13%.
The last stage gives us the second uphill finish, this time having to be navigated 6 times starting from 28k out. 825m@9%, max 14%.
Last year saw Paul Martens take the win gapping Hivert on the identical last stage which was won by Jungels, who finished fifth overall. Close time gaps all around, but still well sorted by uphill ability.
Neither of those riders are present here, Jungels because he rides Dauphiné and Martens simply because Belkin isn't present at all.
The startlist is significantly less impressive than in Bayern, which is of course good news for Herklotz. Especially the prologue and the downhill finish on stage 3 could suit him more than others, although of course he is hopefully going to be around on the uphill finishes as well.
As for the opposition, one man clearly stands out with the ability to take bonus seconds on every stage: Gerald Ciolek.
André Greipel is the main favourite for stage 1 though, and as the Gorilla isn't too bad converting his raw power onto an uphill finish either, it'll be interesting to see how far he can go on those short ramps. His positioning should definitely help there.
For the pure puncheur/climber kind, the Schlecks obviously stand out in their home race. Both are not too impressive this season (for Andy: to say the least), so there could be a way around them for the others.
Those include Hardy+Molard (Cofidis), Chalapud+Pantano (Colombia), Rovny+Morkov (Saxo), Gerdemann (MTN), Firsanov+Lagutin (Rusvelo), Ghyselinck+Leukemans (Wanty) and obviously Herklotz with decent support from Werda, Saggiorato and Mager.
https://www.procyclingstats.com/race/S...-Startlist
So from a (hopefully) unbiased perspective, definitely a wide open race, although with significantly less outstanding riders expected to challenge for the win considering it's a .HC race.
The general level of opposition looks to be around where Herklotz can/should/might be on a good/decent day for me, which makes this particularly interesting for me. A .HC podium or Top 5 would be massive for his motivation and confidence, I assume.
As for the coverage bit, I don't see anything where live images would come from. I do remember watching a finish camera of the prologue and possibly of some stages as well sometime in the past, so I'll definitely try and find something and post it here, of course.
Considering it's the national tour, I expect TV highlights in some news program though.

That is a pretty poor start list for a .HC race.
Do you know why Stölting and Wallonie are even allowed to race? Normally continental teams are only allowed to take part in .HC races in their home country.
Luxembourg even has two continental teams in the race, so it can't be to make up for the lack of local teams. |

Sometimes it's just the sponsors' influence or good relations of DS' and organisers. Such an example was ActiveJet riding Clasica de Almeria, also HC race, as Conti team.
