Start

i44.tinypic.com/2gvo3mp.png

We start the 4th day of the Volta a Catalunya facing the queen stage of the race where the man in white and green at the end of this stage will be very close to securing the overall victory. There at lots of KoM points on offer, the penultimate climb features a HC climb offering 30 points to the person who crosses first.

177km

i44.tinypic.com/2508spv.png

Various attacks from the riders who tried to escape from the off now form the today's break containing Valls (VCD), Kessiakoff (AST), Plaza (MOV), Busche (RLT) and Montaguti (AGR) . At this point they have already developed a 2'12" gap.

Cat.3 KoM1

i44.tinypic.com/29nz9g2.png

Uncontested, they riders roll though in the image above, they have a 4'16" gap to a Sky controlled peloton.

Cat.1 KoM2

i44.tinypic.com/29nz9g2.png

On this much harder climb, only Plaza makes an effort but he doesn't attack he works on the front of the break for the last 700/800 metres and takes 16 points, with the HC, he may be thinking about the climber jersey at the end of this stage.

i42.tinypic.com/bhymb4.png

LL Sanchez (BEL) attacks out the pack to claim jersey points and is followed by Weening (OGE) who take 4 and 3 points. Stage 1 escapees and KoM jersey wearers Lindeman (VCD) and Wellens (LTB) also attack later out the group to grab the last points on offer.

Cat.2 KoM3
i40.tinypic.com/e81rlx.png

After a short descent the breakaway are the first to hit the Cat.2 climb straight after, they roll over without fighting for points, Plaza goes through first and they have 6'06" back to the peloton.

111km

Ten Dam (BEL) attacks after the peloton crosses the top of the Cat.2 climb and has got himself a 1'08" gap.

108km-105km

i40.tinypic.com/2n9kqoi.png

Martin (GRS) attacks from the pack and joins up with Ten Dam who have 3'01" back to the peloton. A group of 3 attack to form E3 including Caruso (CAN), Velits (OPQ), Duarte (COL) have a small gap in front of the main bunch.

100km

The E2 and E3 group form up to become a group of 5, they have a 3'33" gap and are in pursuit of the front 5 with a 6'51" time gap in front.

Sprint

i40.tinypic.com/2n9kqoi.png

i44.tinypic.com/2dlkgaa.png

Sprint was not contested however the E1 and E2 group has now formed into a ten man front group with a 4'09" gap to the peloton. Sky and Saxo must be wary of Martin's and Ten Dam's threat if they are allowed to go two far, both start the stage on +1'37".

45km

The peloton has broken down into 41 riders now which is also the leaders jersey group, notable riders have been dropped such as Monfort (RLT) who has most of his teammates in his group, disappointing after yesterdays top 10. Roche (SAX) is also dropped he won't be able to help Contador out.

Cat.HC KoM4

i41.tinypic.com/33l2nx2.png

Plaza makes a small attack to secure the 30 points, he is now on 56 points and currently leads the competition, the rest of the 10 man break are not concerned.

i41.tinypic.com/vxe102.png

A group of 8 split from the front of the peloton (E2), the rest of the field can't keep up with their sheer climbing power. This includes leader Porte and Kiryienka (Sky), Contador (SAX), Scarponi (LAM), Trofimov and Moreno (KAT), Konig (TNE) and Sami Sanchez (EUS).

35km

On the descent from the Cat.HC now, E1 (Martin group) have 51 seconds on E2 (Porte group) and they have 44" on E3, the main group of climbers from the front half of the peloton including Hesjadel and Talansky of Garmin and Inxhausti of Movistar and Tangert of Astana.

Sprint
i44.tinypic.com/20sj7nn.png
The second sprint of the stage is uncontested, starts probably wise, with the last climb of the day coming up and the MTF.

Just after the sprint the Porte group bridge over to E1 to form a group of 18.

20km to go

i40.tinypic.com/1zpth75.png

Under the banner we see Valls attack, it comes to nothing though and the group have 48" on the newly formed peloton consisting of the E2 group that included Kangert, Talansky and Inxhausti has formed with the earlier dropped group of the Radioshack riders.

18km

i44.tinypic.com/2qw1jzk.png

Duarte is the first to attack on the last climb, he puts a small gap between himself and the E1 group.

15km

Martin is expected to attack, and he does so, he is followed by Konig and Sanchez. Behind them Scarponi, Talanksy and Trofimov try to bridge over. Porte may be in some danger here, he doesn't have a team mate, Kiryienka doesn't have anything in the tank to help anymore.

12km

Scarponi, Konig, Sami Sanchez and Moreno form a group behind Duarte.

9km

i42.tinypic.com/2rms4le.png

The attack were unsucessful, Ten Dam manages to break away again for the second time today and bridges over to Duarte but he is suffering and Porte manages to bridge the whole group over them, this has to play into the Contador's hands.

8km

i44.tinypic.com/s40woh.jpg

Contador decides time is now! Duarte goes again and Porte reacts to both.

i41.tinypic.com/678hf4.png

Porte does follow and counters Contador's attack, them 2 have gone now as the others don't have the energy to match.

5km

i39.tinypic.com/2zsqrlt.png

Under the 5km banner the front two have 1'00" now and won't be caught by the rest.

i44.tinypic.com/2gtd85x.png

Sanchez leads the second group with Costa, Ten Dam, Talansky and Duarte. E3 consists of Tangert, Scarponi, Inxtausti and Martin. Moreno and Konig are in a bigger group just behind them.

2km

i40.tinypic.com/30myhs3.png

The same groups are intact but the time gaps have got bigger. There is still a 1'00" gap between E1 and E2. We will see the winner between Porte or Contador.

1km

i40.tinypic.com/9laioz.png

Under the 1km banner Porte is still on the front, he has done all the work since they broke, he starts his sprint to the line.

500m

i44.tinypic.com/2r7sfuq.png

Contador edges around Porte who doesn't have much less, this could be a chance for a much needed time gap.

Finish

i39.tinypic.com/2qbc6tw.png

He stays in front and wins the stage by a bike length! No time gaps between the two but I don't think Alberto will be too concerned, that is 3 stage wins for Saxo!

A group of 3 comes in 1'35" including Sanchez, Ten Dam and Costa to round out the top 5. Talansky and Duarte come in 17 seconds later.
i39.tinypic.com/14xcy0y.png

Dan Martin comes in 7th with Scarponi and Kangert with him and Intxausti 20 seconds or so behind.

This means that Porte retains his leaders jersey as he has more points from his 4th place sprint on stage 2. Contador is second in the GC with the same time, it should make for interesting stages with climbs towards the end. A good performance from Sami Sanchez seems him in 3rd place + 1'47" with compatriot from Movister is 4th another minute down. Talansky (Garmin) rounds out the top 5.

Porte also leads the points classification, Bennati is second and will wear the green jersey in the place of Porte.

A great effort in the break today from Plaza seems him take the climbers jersey by 1 point off Contador, will he decide to defend the jersey in the last 3 stages?

Andrew Talansky bar an incident will take a jersey home for Garmin in the end in form of the young riders white jersey who has 3'06" on Nerz (BMC) in second.

Well done Samuel!
Now we just have to hang on to the 3rd place and our sponsors will be happy Grin

This will not happen. Sami Sanchez will end up fourth just behind either Costa or Intxausti and my sponsor will be happy instead of yours Wink

Also, good job my Plaza.

Good ride from Ten Dam. But if you're so strong, why attack 100km away Laurens?

All three of your strong riders, dropped very early, never up front. Honestly my team is awful. Not sure what Burton is doing, not showing much for his 74MO finishing almost groupetto, he was at the front of the peloton for first 20km then slowly went backwards

König okay-ish once again, disappointed though that he lost so many places after being in Group Porte initially. Rolling Eyes

Tour de San Luis Stage 6

i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x448/Neillster/SanLuisStage6_zpsf00580ee.jpg

So here we go, the last stage where there can be any real change to the GC. Can anybody actually take it away from the dominating Katusha Rodriguez. Can Po-Kim regain his jersey?

159km: And they’re off! And it doesn’t take long before we’ve got a break! More substantial today than on any of the previous stages. And there’s some interesting names in here as well. We’ve got J. Dombrowki (Sky), M. Boaro (Saxo-Tinkoff), F. Beppu (Orica), M. de Maar (United Health Care), D. de la Cruz (Netapp), C. Sarmiento (Cannondale), J. Pantano (Colombia) and A. Mironov (Rusvelo).

i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x448/Neillster/PCM0026_zps80c64bea.png

126km: Going through the first Mountain sprint, it’s J. Dombrowski in the lead followed by Pantano and Sarmiento. They’ve currently got a 1’30’’

i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x448/Neillster/PCM0027_zpsff75378c.png

75km: It’s Vacansoleil helping out Katusha leading the pack, so De Gendt must be feeling good today. This could be interesting. Yet the gap still goes up to 4’30’’

i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x448/Neillster/PCM0033_zpsbdc29901.png

61km: At the first Intermediate sprint, it’s Beppu who takes the major plaudits followed by Boaro and Mironov. The pace has increased behind, and the gap is down to 2’56’’.

i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x448/Neillster/PCM0028_zpsfc7a5d94.png

41km: Oh now we’ve got a race on our hands! And it’s Kruijswijk who attacks. He gets joined by by the Androni duo of Rubiano and J. Rodriguez.

i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x448/Neillster/PCM0030_zpsccd4417e.png

39km: At the second Intermediate sprint, the Italian Boaro takes first place, followed by Beppu and Mironov. The peleton is bearing down hard, and Kruijswijk has split from his Androni buddies.

i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x448/Neillster/PCM0031_zpsfacf3185.png

13km: And we’ve got attacks from the break! It’s Mironov and Boaro, with Kruijswijk 26’’ behind and Rodriguez and Rubiano a further 40’’ back. There’s still a 3 minute gap to the pack.

i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x448/Neillster/PCM0035_zpscac57c38.png

Meanwhile, as the peleton reaches the same point all the attacks begin! And it’s Thomas de Gendt leading them off! Looks like he wasn’t kidding when he asked his guys to lead things out. He’s covered instantly by Rodriguez with Sagan in tow. Behind Wiggins, Kim and Kangert are trying to keep up. But 3 minutes is a lot of time to take back!

i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x448/Neillster/PCM0037_zps60d21474.png

3.5km: These attacks blow apart the peleton, but yet all the favourites stay together. Yet Kangert gets a gap of 20’ on Rodriguez as he catches up to the other Rodriguez. And the gap to the front is right down to 1 minute. They could still do this!

i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x448/Neillster/PCM0038_zps4d17057f.png

1.5km: There’s still 30’ and the favourites are all together. Meanwhile Pantano opens up the sprint with Dombrowski hot on his tail!

i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x448/Neillster/PCM0040_zpse1d074b3.png

0km: And the American does it! J. Rodriguez has shown some great acceleration there to get right up to the front and take 7th place and gain another 22’ on Kangert who was also able to storm into the top 10.
