Come on, people. Get your shit together.
Everybody knows that we celebrate Christmas because that's when Santa was crucified by the Easter Bunny. Jesus, don't you people read the Bible?

No, no, you got it all wrong.
On Christmas, Santa hit Easter Bunny over the head. On Easter, the Bunny took revenge by egging his house.

Yes, there is, but not as much as possible, given a lot of it, the official one at least, would have been stored in Jerusalem's temple, which got burnt in an arson once or twice, about two centuries later. |

cactus-jack keeps doing efforts to make this thread what it is: a bunch of useless, funny, lower-part-or-your-brain-kind-of-thing, and you keep undermining his efforts by all this serious talk about Jesus! |

Wait a minute. How come so many people are saying Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays if the majority of the site is Atheist?

No offence, but it's not about what you (or me) think in this case. We're nobodies.
Almost all serious historians agree that there was a man living there during the Roman occupation, more or less around 30 AC. He had people following him, he was revered by some, but hated by others. He healed some people using methods of the physios of the time (doesn't sound too magical, but might be efficient nonetheless), and talked about religious stuff a lot (who could have guessed ? ).
He travelled all around the country, and went to Jerusalem at least twice (first time for Branches, second for Eastern, both events didn't happen the same year or with one week difference).
I have no idea whether the English wikipedia page is as interesting as the French one, but the reading about the historical Jesus (whose magical powers are not proven) was really interesting a couple of years ago.
That's basically what I mean. No matter what he did and what became of it there was probably a guy like that born. There is historical evidence isn't there?
Yeah, but nothing to suggest he did anything inhuman - supernatural if you prefer.
Until his disciples decided it would be a wonderful idea to copy all the egyptian stories from the (at the time) 1500 year old egyptian Book of the Dead about the demi-god Horus (born on december 25th to a virgin and a god, three wise men led by a star in the east, baptized in a river, tempted in the desert, had 12 disciples, resurrected lazarus, multiplied food for starving people, banished demons, walked on water, was crucified, resurrected 3 days later, etc. etc) and call it an original story about a man named Yeshuah (by far the most common name at the time - convenient!).
And that's where all this nonsense began.
But to be fair, they weren't the only ones who copied all those things from the story of Horus for their own god. Many many gods of mainstream religions are blatant copies of each others.

Because in most of the western world Christmas is a family holiday that's far past religious significance and thus most celebrate it with families. Christmas tree, presents, etc. Just no religious iconography like crosses. Hence Merry Christmas.
We get a day off - or more - to spend with our families now, then another day off on January 1st to celebrate the new year. And a ton of people take all the days in between off their vacation days. Hence, happy holidays

Depends on your definition. In any cemetery from the time literally dozens of graves labelled Yeshua are found, it was a ludicrously common name. So yeah, a Yeshua guy existed in those places in those dates. Tens of thousands did.
Question is....how do you define "him" (as in "the one you mean specifically" ) as opposed to all the other Yeshuas at the time that were not "him"? The one with the miracles? You can only do that if they existed
EDIT: I suppose you can define him as "the one who preached religion", but given how absurdly common the name was, it's extremely unlikely there was only one.

Within the world of cycling, what would be the best Christmas present for you?
I'd have to say the retirement of McQuaid.

Most of us are probably counted as Christians, or have raised in mostly Christian countries.
Though, I'm not sure since when it's been like that, but there's no more "All saints holiday" early November, it's "Autumn holidays" nowadays. Christmas holidays have become Late Year holidays, and Eastern is now Spring holidays.
Those religious name offended people from other religions it seems (not that I care about names). |

Well, there's some information about the most famous Yeshua of that time there :
https://en.wikipe...#Existence
And he was different from most other Yeshua because he was known as Yeshua from Nazareth (there still were probably dozens or hundreds of people called Yeshua coming from Nazareth). |
