MG World Rankings

The MG World Rankings are back for the first time this season! We have nine new teams, numerous riders and a whole new section joining the rankings from this update. More on the latter at the end of the post.

There was no post at the start of the season, but I have still posted the change from the start of the season (not end of last season) from my own records.

MG Team World Rankings - After May 2023

Puma are top of the rankings once again, and have a huge gap at the top. Aker make a huge jump up to 2nd, which is even more impressive given they were in the PCT just a couple of seasons ago! Vesuvio have also made some strong progress this season. Newly promoted Cedevita, ZARA and Carlsberg have each moved up 5 spots as well. The big fall in the PT comes from ISA - Hexacta, who are currently deep in the relegation zone.

Fastned remain the highest ranked PCT team despite their relegation. In fact the top 5 placed PCT teams are all relegated teams, with Xero being the highest ranked non-relegated PCT team, having themselves fallen 5 spots with an inconsistent first half of the season. It is no surprise that Jura are the biggest upward movers in the PCT, having been promoted and currently leading the rankings! Bralirwa is biggest upward mover among repeating PCT teams. Kraftwerk have fallen the most among the non-relegated PCT teams.

In CT, much like the PCT, the top ranked teams are the relegated ones. Tajford are the biggest climbers while Air New Zealand are the biggest fallers in the CT.Stela-Vita is the best ranked new team, with JEWA TIROL just behind, as they currently sit 2nd and 3rd in the rankings, respectively.

MG Rider World Rankings - After May 2023

Herklotz displaces Phinney at the top of the standings, but the latter will ride the TDF later in the season. Kudus is the biggest gainer in the Top 10. Shikai is makes the biggest jump into the Top 50, on the back of his sensational Giro win. Sagan is the only rider to fall out of the Top 10, with age catching up. Kwiatkowski is the biggest loser in the Top 50, with age catching with him as well. Among the featured riders, Groves makes the largest improvement of more than 900 positions to now be inside the Top 100.

USA's riders are the best scoring ones in the Top 10, with Romania taking that honour overall. USA also has the lowest number of riders in the Top 10. Kenya, with 6 riders, has the minimum among the Top 50 ranked nations.

I like the country ranking a lot and think it (or sth similar) should always be used for all wc / olympic racing.

Dont think the CpR/ number of riders should have an impact on it as e.g. additional weaker signed/added riders should not have a (negative) impact on it. Not sure if thats the case in your calculation.

@knockout: I have added the CpR and count as an extra feature. They don't need to be considered for the WC selection.

And thinking about it now, maybe I will update the rankings to have only contracted riders included in the CpR and count columns.

The glory days of Festina is over, and we are looking towards a more realistic â€œgreekâ€ position. Given that the nation is only 22nd, it does Seem like an unrealistic scenario to keep a regular PT team.

MG World Rankings

The post TDF MG rankings are here and this is an important update as it will be used for the qualification to the World Championships as well.

MG Team World Rankings - After July 2023

Puma continues to lead the Teams rankings but there's quite a few changes behind them! Evonik are up into 2nd, their best ever spot in these rankings! EA Vesuvio also move up to 3rd, pushing Aker down to 4th, who are still the highest positive movers in the PT. ISA - Hexacta have lost the most spots this season in PT.

Fastned remains the highest ranked PCT team, despite losing 5 spots. All the recently relegated teams have lost considerable spots, with Los Pollos being the notable exception. The team losing the most spots though, is Kraftwerk. Balirwa are the highest gainers in PCT.

Tajford are the only positive mover among repeating CT teams with Air New Zealand dropping the most spots. Gjensidige are the highest placed in the division.

Phinney takes back the top spot after the TDF. Lecuisinier moves back up to his position from the start of the season. Kudus is still the rider with the biggest upwards movement in the Top 10, but Bernal may still make a claim for that! Pogacar is the only rider with a triple digit improvement inside the Top 50. Inside the Top 100, it's Philipsen, Warchol and Giannoutsos who are the best movers.

If i remember correctly, last years September + October results will be downgraded in multiplier once we get to the months this year? If so, it will be difficult to close down the gap to Puma more since i scored really well in the final last year.

But #2 sounds pretty good already

Latvia so close on the edge to an A worlds spot. Would be amazing to secure it once again and with Skujins getting close to decline, it might be one of the best opportunities to do so for a while.

MG World Rankings

The MG World Rankings are back for the first time this season! We have four new teams, numerous new riders and new countries joining the rankings from this update.

There was no post at the start of the season, but I have still posted the change from the start of the season (not end of last season) from my own records.

MG Team World Rankings - After June 2024

Gazelle lead the PT and have also jumped from 5th to 1st in the rankings on the back of the same. Both Puma and Aker have dropped a spot. The biggest fall in the PT comes from Lidl while Carlsberg are the highest gainers.

Lierse also lead the PCT standings, and are the highest ranking non-relegated team from the division. The highest ranked PCT team is ELCO. The highest rise has been made by Tryg while Everesting is the biggest faller among repeating PCT teams.

Newton Foundation, despite being in CT, are still better off than twelve current PCT teams! They have fallen only one spot since the start of the year, which after June is an amazing achievement. The best repeating CT team is Wurth, while Babymetal and Air Newzealand are the strugglers. Duvel have made the best start among the new teams.

MG Rider World Rankings - After June 2024

Herklotz has taken back the top spot from Phinney, having lost it last season but this season has been about the rise of Bernal, who has jumped 35 spots from the end of 2023 to be 3rd for the moment. Gaviria, Wirtgen and Dombrowski have made some improvements, while Morton and Areruya are the other big jumpers in the Top 10. The rider with the biggest improvement in the Top 50 however, is Vansevenant, moving up 649 places this year! Demare is the biggest drop, losing 40 spots so far.

How is the Country Ranking done? I see Greece in 26th place with 13 riders. There should be more than 13 contracted riders from Greece to my knowledge. I count 23.

Nice to see Giannoutsos taking some big leaps, but being 116th imod proves my point that the greek talents might need to be added with a higher potential once in a while.
