With a bit of luck Rudy could actually do rather well here. Unfortunately we and him especially don't do luck...

Hopefully Abasi will get a good result in Köln. If he survives the hills I wouldn't totally exclude him at least

Brabantse Pijl 2014
Hello and welcome to this years running of de Brabantse Pijl, which features the classic route. The riders will have it relatively easy early in the race but when they get on the circuit around Overijse which is done 4 times and features numerous climbs, some of which are cobbled, the word “easy riding” will certain not apply anymore.
racing gets finally underway
The attacker’s waste no time in try to get clear, it took almost 40 km to get a clear breakaway. In the end only Neirynck (TopSport Vlaanderen), Pellizotti (Cofidis), Fumeaux (IAM), Nocentini (Champion Systems)
Halfway through race there was a surprise attack by Wanty Group Gobert rider Staf Scheirlinckx. He joined up with the breakaway, in response to this late attack Lars Ytting Bak (Vacansoleil) tried himself. He also joined with the breakaway that now has 5 minutes left with 80 km to go.
At the first passage of the finish line, we already had a favorite group leading already, however BMC looks like to have missed the early cut. Alf Pedersen with Hayman and Stannard, Vanmarcke with Stuyven and Sagan have already made a small gap. Gap to the breakaway is done to a minute.
a prelude of things to come
After the third cobbeld section we see that Sagan doesn’t trust his sprint apperantly as he’s attack when the peloton closes with the favorite group
Sagan closes the gap to the breakaway almost within seconds and is now leading the race. Sky, Belkin and BMC are now leading the chase with Stannard, Stuyven and Gilbert at the head of the peloton.
Sagan has opened up a reasonable gap to the peloton and it seems that the teams have given up on victory. Verboven is trying to bring back spark within the race by attack. The peloton lets him go and it’s seems a duel.
The young Belgian in pursuit of Sagan
With 15 kilometers still to go, Verboven still hasn’t closed the gap towards Sagan yet, the gap seems steady at 20 seconds. Meanwhile the peloton has woken up and started chasing thanks to Ladagnous (FDJ.fr) return to the favorite group and Haussler failed attack.
The peloton is pursuit of Verboven, who’s just before the finish and Sagan, who’s just infront of the finish
Verboven isn’t able to threaten Sagan for victory resulting in Peter Sagan winning the Brabantse Pijl 2014. He’s was the pre-race favorite, attacked and never looked back. Amazing victory by the Czech.
He tried with all his might but in the end wasn’t strong enough to be able to match Sagan yet. Then again, a podium position in a race that has cobbles for a rider from Euskaltel is not something you see everyday.
The final sprint is only good for 3rd place and Geraint Thomas (Sky) proved to be the strongest or the most willing to accept the 3rd place. Flecha (Movistar) and Boom (Belkin) take places 4 and 5 while the rest of the top 10 is filled by Kevyn Ista (IAM), Leukemans (Vacansoleil), Edvald Boasson Hagen (Sky), Ladagnous (FDJ) and Gilbert (BMC)
Highly wanted 11th place is award to Matthew Hayman of Sky while Van Avermaet is 12th. Stannard (13th), Offredo (14th), Haussler (15th), Pedersen (16th), Stuyven (17th), Vanmarcke (18th), Roelandts (19th) and Florencio (20th) round up to points position. Only Gallopin (FDJ) is the only rider in the peloton to score no points.

This race is bugged to hell. At least it was slightly better than last year but still weird.
Hayman better check himself before he wrecks himself though. He has no right to steal 11th from us.

A very nice report, Rudy getting closer and closer to that first win, but there's always Sagan, who's basicly the same rider but better.
Update: UCI puts Sagan on non-active pending some kind of investigaion.
And thanks for the report
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Very nice 2nd place for Rudy as well as Florencio sneeking into the last points-giving position. Well done by the non-basques

Hi, and welcome to the 2014 Rund un Köln! The riders are already in the starting line and ready to go!
The race has begun and Miles (CCC) is the first to attack! Wesemann (MTN) follows him.
Lastras (MOV), Boev (RVL) and Van Hecke (TSV) try to join the front two.
Lastras (MOV) is the only one sucesseful, and now it's Valencia (COL) on the attack followed by Boev (RVL).
Van Hecke (TSV), Coledan (BAR), Delfosse (CRE) and Mendes (TNE) are also going for the breakaway.
It's Delio Fernandez (CSS) now trying to go to the breakaway. Moments later it's Andrew Tennant's (SKY) turn.
And 20 km after the beginning of the race we have a 11 man breakaway with an advantage of 4 minutes.
150 km to go: The breakaway has 6'12'' to the peloton that is leaded by Belkin and Lotto.
Sorry forgot to take off the interface.
Meanwhile, Matthew Hayman (SKY) crashes in the peloton.
125 km to go: Movistar joins the chase and Lastras stops working in the breakaway. 5'30'' of advantage.
100 km to go: Due to the strong wind there was a temporary cut, in which Abundi (MTN) fell behind. However the bunch is all conected again and the breakaway jas now 4'30'' to the peloton.
75 km to go: The breakaway as now only 3'20'' to the peloton that is still headed by Belkin, Lotto and Movistar.
60 km to go: Flat tire for Juan José Cobo (MOV). 2'40'' between the breakaway and the peloton
50 km to go: The breakaway seems doomed has they only have 2'20'' of advantage.
With 35 km left Lastras (MOV) tried to leave the others behind has the advantage is only of 1'35''. But with only 30 km to go with Lastras caught by the other 10 escaped riders the diference has grown to 2 minutes.
25 km to go: The breakaway tries to hold the 1'05'' they still have of advantage, but Lotto, Belkin and Movistar are creating a huge pace in the peloton.
20 km to go: The peloton can already see the breakaway as they only have 50'' to neutralize.
15 km to go: Lastras (MOV), Mendes (TNE) and Valencia (COL) attack in the breakaway! The advantage is 30''.
7,5 km to go: The 11 escaped riders are united again and they keep the 30'' to the peloton, even with Movistar giving all they got!
With 5 km to go the breakaway manages to raise the advantage to 40''! Can they hold on?
4 km left and Wesemann (MTN) attacks in the breakaway and no one answers! The lead-outs for Calzone (MOV) and Greipel (LTB) are formed and it's Boassen Hagen (SKY), Modolo (BAR), Machado (CJR), Guido (COL) and Abundi (MTN) trying to follow their wheels. Kittel and Belkin have disappeared!
3,5 km to go: Wesemann (MTN) keeps 10 seconds to Miles (CCC) and the rest of the breakaway is caught!
2,5 km to go and Kenny Van Hummel (LTB) absorves the breakaway and does the perfect launch to Greipel (LTB)! Calzone's (MOV) train is losing positions!
With 2 km left, Lobato (MOV) is making an incredible recovery for Calzone (MOV).
1,5 km to go: Greipel (LTB) launches his sprint! Calzone (MOV) remains behind Lobato (MOV).
We enter the last km and Greipel (LTB) comes at front, but Calzone (MOV) is finally lauching his sprint!
With 500 m left Greipel (LTB) holds a good advantage. Machado (CJR) comes stronger that Calzone (MOV)!
Machado (CJR) doesn't have capacity to catch Greipel (LTB) and the German is going to win!
And the Gorilla passes the finish line and wins Rund un Köln! 2nd place to Machado (CJR) and 3rd place to Calzone (MOV).
Boassen Hagen (SKY) and Modolo (BAR) end the top 5. Guido (COL) is 6th, Abundi (MTN) 7th and Lobato (MOV), Van Hummel (LTB) and a reincarnated Kittel (BEL) finish the top 10!

Update: UCI puts Sagan on non-active pending some kind of investigaion.
Luckily this whole thing isn't organised by the UCI since 2013, so we are not even slightly concerned.
Great victory from Peter, although he could've mentioned to his manager that he applied for the Czech nationality. |

Gnah, we messed up that sprint pretty badly. Congratulations Lotto, but we hope for payback in Scheldeprijs
And a very nice job on your first report, though we'd accept shorter versions as well

Nice reports indeed.
Good to see Pellizotti in the break but the cobbles of Brabantse were always going to find him out.
Ow, 11th place in Germany.
Tomohori Hatanaka and Maui Kalatoa got to stretch their legs for the first time.

This race is bugged to hell. At least it was slightly better than last year but still weird.
