What I could do is implement a penalty into the mountain calculation, based on the points acquired in the sprints. That way top sprinters will end up with lower mountain stats. |

Pretty impressive stuff if every stat just comes from calculation. Mountain stat is pretty spot on, and especially the hill stat.
I'm just wondering if it's possible to differentiate between different TT profiles? It seems like the TT stat of the climbers is a bit too high in some cases. Maybe you can disregard, or penalise, mountain TTs and very hilly TTs? I guess some of those TT stats are results of Vuelta a Espana or Pais Vasco TTs, which hardly measures real TT ability. The hill stat will help with those TTs in the game.

I made an adjustment on the mountain stats based on the height of the sprint stats. Every sprinter with a sprint stat higher than 75 gets a minus on the mountain stat of -8 + 83 (max sprintstat) - sprintstat. that way the best sprinters have a bigger penalty.
However, I did this for the sprinters with a hill score lower than 75... that way the good riders in hills, like Sagan keep their score in the mountains. |

Thanks for the feedback Squire.
can you give some examples? I'm struggling on pin pointing the exact results that needs adjustments... I've accounted 106 TT's; flat, hill and even mountaines, but all with their own points in TT... so I can adjust, but need some pointers. |

All the stats seem particularly spot on now! One very last flaw seems to be a too damn high sprint stat for the gc contenders, the punchers and the cobblers. I think that you may try to differntiate the 60+ men sprints from the very tight sprints as the mountain stages ones are. For the rest, glad to see you managed to fix the mountain stat for the sprinters and everything looks more realistic than ever!

I think I've done it. alternated the stats buildup in the lower regions and now it does give lower stats to skills that are not primairy of secondairy. Will post some results later on. |

Definitely better now. Not sure yet where 70 for Froome and 73 for Nibali come from but they can be adjusted easily

Hi Matt, thanks for the support.
the "high" sprint stat comes from the hill races, with a small group sprint in the end. Therefore I had give 10% of the points in the stage/race to sprint... I've nerved it down to 5%, so now Froome has 70 and Nibali also has 70.. Mollema has 71, Rui Coast has 73 and Valverde has 75.
That should give them a (small) advantage in PCM when a small group comes to the finish. That is my reasoning at least. |

Ah, got it now. But well, imo it could turn out that they perform well in not klonly the tight sprints. I mean: neither Nibali nor Vroome can sprint at all, not even in a very tight sprint. Guys like Contador or Purito can do much, much better than them. I don't really think it will make the gameplay better, just give them the stats thry deserve and even if they're low as hell the results will turn out to be realistic anyway
Those are my 2 cents, not a huge deal as the high mountain stats for sprinters was but still.

Hi Squire,
I don't want to make the thread of PCM Daily about my stats... So here are the results that have been taken into account in the stats of Tiesj Benoot

Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana is certainly not sprint
Anyway with Benoot you are not taking his U23 result with actually hills being by far his best discipline, but I guess you can't include these in these. Anyway clearly his hill is way off, but you can't make system suit one rider!
Well done on your progress so far.

I saw that too... see 3 races in that period that have their type mixed up... fixed it now.
still that doesn't give him a whole lot more points.
Problem is that I only take into account the World Tour and the .1 or .HC races. So no .2 of ncup races. I have tried to set it up, but on a good number of them the profile is just not available, so hard to make up what kind of race-result it is.
And you are right, the system is definitely not perfect, but gives a nice start to any database that can then be adjusted to the views of the creator |

I love the concept, but with the results only provided from big races, it kind of defeats the purpose. Any more or less dedicated cycling fan can set the stats of most WT riders; it's the more unknown riders this could be useful for, and the system would then need lower category races.
Of course I understand the practical challenges of including the smaller races, and I know this is still an experiment, but with extensive research, it could be invaluable for PCM databases
PS: Races like l'Avenir, U23 editions of Ronde, P-R and Liège etc. should be easy to implement, and could give a decent pointer on young riders.

I follow what you are saying, but in fairness, that Benoot is something special. He was third in the 2014 RvV U23, but in the nr 1 (Dylan Groenewegen) and nr 2 (Kristoffer Skjerping) also rode the RvV 2015 and both had far lesser results... so It's still hard to tell how the U23 / Junior results would weigh in a professional cyclist field. |

The problem with RvV U23 is that it's not nearly as tough as the senior version of the race (around 165km long). Two of the past three years it's been a quite a big bunch sprint for the win. Vanbilsen escaped narrowly to win in 2012, but the sprint for 2nd was a large bunch. I can only assume the route was changed alongside the pro race in 2012, because before that the gaps were bigger for sure. Still though hard to find a huge correlation between U23 cobble results and pro cobble results. Both of those two you mentioned (Groenewegen and Skjerping) podiumed because of their sprint ability, at least that is one thing you could get from it. Doesn't mean they will become cobble champions though. Based on previous winners chances are they won't. |
