That reminds me of the Lotto teams in 2006-2008 that couldnt help Evans past a speedbump. Thats pretty tough for VdB.

Quit strange how that team wasn't able to help Evans considering they had a future Vuelta winner amongst them Pfft

Slagter will be in the squad certainly, going for a stage-win, according to some Dutch sources from last month. Might be outdated, but I doubt he'll miss out on the squad.

Ahh sure, he missed Giro in order to ride TdF so he will be in TdF roster for sure.

I think he would be better riding Giro this year, but then, who could predict Martin's crash. With Martin, Hesjedal and Slagter all fit, it would be perhaps too much of a puncheur power in the team, not enough free roles for all.

I wish he would be back to March-April form. That would be a real asset for the team.

Strong and versatile roster from IAM, will be interesting to watch, but Tschopp is kinda missing there.

Any news about Garmin squad ? Will Acevedo ride ? Would be interesting duo with Talansky.

I bet Garmin will be the very last team to announce their roster, as always, possibly just 2 or 3 days before the Tour starts.

Acevedo will most likely ride. And it appears he will be a key helper for Talansky, since Danielson, Dennis and Slagter all seemed to be pretty much off from in Tour de Suisse and Hesjedal is intended to skip TdF for Vuelta.

My guess is that their roster will look like:
Talansky, Acevedo, Danielson, Dennis, Langeveld, Millar, Navardauskas, Slagter and Vansummeren.

Other possibilities:
- Martin- how is he after Giro crash? I guess the absence in any race in June suggest he won't rather participate in TdF, but who knows. He rode very little in the spring so TdF+Vuelta combo would be possible.
- Hesjedal- if Vaughters thinks Talansky can make a big inpact on GC, then Hesjedal's plans might be changed and he may unexpectedly ride TdF just as Danielson rode Giro last year.
- Bauer- rode TdF last year and his calendar this year suggests he might be in decent form for July.
- Howes- was a top30 level at Dauphine for the first couple of days before disappearing completely for the last stages. Still that's quite a bit more than Dennis showed in TdS.
- King- apart from Acevedo and maybe Cardoso, the best Garmin's climber in TdS. Earlier in the year he said he would be targetting simillar races to Talansky, so who knows?

Other would be quite a surprise, but sometimes Garmin makes a surprising moves, like taking Navardauskas to the 2011 TdF.

Talansky, Acevedo and Millar are 99% sure IMO, with the rest, you never know.

Like you say, I can't see Talansky and Acevedo sharing leadership. Talansky is the clear favorite to me. That said Acevedo will probably get a few opportunities to jump away for himself.

A couple of those flat guys like Vansummeren and Langeveld would be kind of useless for a team without a sprinter, no?

Van Summeren is a decent climber, not to mention a real asset for the cobble stage, which Im sure was the thinking for Langeveld as well. I still think Garmin bring a sprinter too. They've never not had one.

Ah, I forgot about that. Though they didn't bring a sprinter last year.

I guess Tschopp will go to the Vuelta with a free role. He isn't the steady helper as Wyss, and likes best the attacking role of a team, which he probably won't get in the Tour. No surprise there, actually.

Slagter is 100% sure also btw, @above.

A couple of "flat guys" are always needed for a GT. A team that consist of 9 climbers is not the ideal one. You need flat guys to protect your leader when the pace goes up on the flat and you need to be at the front to avoid crashes. To keep the leader at the front on a flat just before the climb. To help the leader chasing the peleton if he has mechanical close to the finish line on a flat stage. To help leader if there are echelons. Etc. Let alone cobbles, which are there this year.
Moreover, Van Summeren, Navardauskas, Langeveld and Millar are all types of guys who could be useful in the middle-mountain stages. They won't climb with the 30 best riders, but if there are some early splits they can do the work on the flat, or they can be sent to the breakaway and be caught later, then help on flat sections between climbs. They are all better climbers than guys like Cavendish or Kittel.

About sprinters, I don't think they'll bring any. Farrar was told earlier this year he wouldn't ride the Tour. Von Hoff is not really a TdF material, not yet. Let alone the rest.
Navardauskas will be probably their quickest guy, but he is not really a type of guy who would place himself consistently in the top5 of typical flat stage, but he can do well in reduced sprints.

Garmin didn't have a sprinter in 2013 and I don't think they will have in 2014- Vaughters made it clear that they shift their focus more towards GC this year.

farrar is not upto it against the best or mediocore some days in a sprint imo (though he was surprisingly good in some of the cobbled semi classics this year, maybe his future lies there) Van Summeren, Navardauskas, Langeveld and Millar will help on the flat and be great for breakaways

Trek has released 6 names for the TdF, with another 3 names the be named this afternoon. The Schleck brothers aren't named yet, wich is curious. Also the young Danny van Poppel will start his 2nd Tour de France already at age 20.

Wasn't that because their chances would be decided after Suisse and Dauphine were completed? They hardly set the world alight.

I have a feeling Sky will announce there squad either today or tomorrow. As last year they announced it on a Thursday leading up to the nationals.

TimoCycling
Belkin squad:

Bauke Mollema
Lars Boom
Stef Clement
Tom Leezer
Laurens ten Dam
Bram Tankink
Steven Kruijswijk
Maarten Wynants
Sep Vanmarcke

Brilliant squad imo, only lacking a sprinter, but they don't have a good sprinter anyways. Only Dutch and Belgium riders btw, I like that.

Frank made it, two spots left.

Dusen
They shouldn't bring Andy. He was such a let down once again in the Tour de Suisse.

Give som young lad the chance instead Pfft

cunego59
Yeah, I hear that Jens Voigt guy is promising. He should ride Pfft

But the 8th spot indeed goes to Andy:

So final choice. Jensie or Jungels. I think Jungels' time will come later. Jensie
