2014 Tour de Romandie

You would rather watch Arras - Reims than the Planche des Belles Filles-stage?

Yep,any day, with straight face. As long as SKY is riding. I skipped some mountain stages last year and in 2012, as i was dying slowly on boredom. But flat stages (and especially hilly rolling stages are very enjoyable for me in last years (of course presence of double green jersey winner Sagan who will go for triple is just a big plus). There i dont know who will win and dominate, i know that in mountains...

I agree Contador looks much more stronger this year, must be good meat really, but i still doubt he can challenge SKY and Froomebot.

I honestly cant believe that, lol. Mountain stages in TdF have always meant something special to me - no matter if if was the Armstrong era, the years without a real favorite, Schleck vs Contador or the Sky dominance and I thought that almost everyone else would feel that same way about that Guess i am mistaken, allthough i do understand that some ppl are tired of the dominance. But honestly, that kind of dominance is rather normal in the Tour (Indurain and Armstrong years).

When I was still deluded, and even a little after that, I thought mountains were the real thing.
Now I feel mountain performances are totally artificial, and that chemistry plays a much more important role there than anywhere else (ITT aside maybe), so they don't look half as interesting as they once used to.
Don't get me wrong, they're still interesting, for the landscape, for the break that'll be caught or not, to see who's a good or a pathetic descender, who's going to make it on time, or which sprinters will make it past the first mountain and grab points for the points jersey, how do (most likely) clean riders fare, etc. But the fight between GC contenders ? Boring, useless.

But to go as far as saying that flat stages are much more entertaining.. just for clarify, that not how you feel, is it?

Riis123
Btw, I do respect how most of you guys feel, but my point is, all of those who claim that the mountain stages and the TdF in general is boring.. those guys will still watch all mountain stages at the end of the day - because its Tour de France.

Nowadays I don't really think on who's going to win, but only on who will be the first riders to drop Pfft

And THAT'S the reason why I also do love them, especially the first one. God knows why, but it's sooo exciting lol

Havent i told you few hours ago, that i skipped several mountain stages at Tour? Also i dont care that it is Tour, spring classics are 100% more exciting for me for example. I really just care about Tour because of Sagan and his fight for the green nowadays, as it is usually not the best race of the season at all. Wink

I dont even understand that statement, the green jersey will always be Sagan's bar any crashes, its even more boring than the mountain stages as it is so predictable

After that echelon last year even flat stages are good to watch with several kms to go. I'll quote PCM: "it's the big races that make the riders and not the other way around."

I'm expecting a mano-a-mano between Froome and Contador but there are several other guys who can be in the fight. And we'll have super strong teams on the climbs with Sky, Tinkoff, Movistar or Astana.

Interesting on how a thread about Romandie turns into a Pre-Tour talks with Giro about to start Smile

Not in my case, unless there's cobbles, echelons or stuff like that.
Most of the fun in flat stages happen in the last 2 km or so, but I find it more thrilling than the GC fight on the last mountain of the day (at least when it comes to TDF, Vuelta has often been a different story this last decade). The outcome of flat stages is much less predictable.
Of course there's nothing exciting about guys riding at 100-150 W in the peloton for most of the day, if that was your point.

What i found interesting on that is that Sagan is not the top3 sprinter and still he is beating others in green jersey battle. Kittel, Greipel and Cavendish can win three or four stages, but Sagan put crazy attacks in rolling hilly stages. And there are also echelon stages, that are much more interesting for me than MTF. It can be different for other people, but i have this preference. Wink

Thats also what i thought.

I find echelons as interesting or even more interesting than the mountain stages, but unfortunately, the Tour generally max has one of those. But I guess it comes down to preferences what you are into, allthough i prefer when they ride uphill more so than on the flat Pfft

Why exactly are you all discussing TdF in the TdR thread?
General stupidity attack everybody?

@Lachi;

It all sparked when Froomebot was activated. Wink

On the subject of IAM, I'm not too sure how to pronounce it. I thought "I am" was the way to go, but I've heard "yam" several times on TV.
So, which is the correct one ?

admirschleck
I always pronounced it as "Yam", but Serbian commentators always pronounces it as "I am".

Not sure if there's really a correct version, as it's just a team-name and not an "official" word.
