It can't have been Pozzovivo as he finished sixth. Anyway, I start doubting whether Sky will be able to do something this year as for now both Froome and Porte fail epically. I know they've had some health problems but how come that both leaders are suffering right now, when the period for getting in good shape starts. Hope they'll be fine for le Tour and Giro respectively. |

Consider Froome didn't race competitively since Oman and this finish didn't suit him as well compared to Purito - he did well today, I reckon Sky was happy with that.

Well he tried an attack but was too late and he wasn't strong enough. Also he lost too much as Tejay managed to pass him. And van Garderen doesn't have the best acceleration. |

Did he have a mechanical or something?
I doubt it. He was at the back of the group the entire day
Okey, so it was Pozzovivo at the back of the AG2R-train the whole climb? i really hate that commentator guy on english eurosport, he is correct 0% of the time.
that guys carlton Kirby hes a moron, and hasn't got clue, they got rid of david harmon, and now Kirby does all ther major races (BIG MISTAKE .

Dan you are a failure to everyone.
Luckily the gaps were small and Talansky and Ryder were up there.

Well, Dan did bad at Tirreno as well, so I wouldn't expect him to be up here anyway.
Plus, I still think he's not really good at long climbs, though you couldn't really regard this as a long climb, considering how the race went...

Besides the fact he won the race last year so your parcour argument is invalid.
He obviously just isn't on form. luckily Garmin have 2 other great leaders.

I know he won it last year, but I just don't think you can expect him to beat guys like Froome, Contador & Quintana on long climbs.

He beat Purito and Quintana on the climbs, Froome isn't in great form or dope right now and some would argue all those are better than Contador besides his form.
Not saying he's as good as him, but also in the Tour last year, it definitely is possible.

It's always a pleasure to watch Purito winning! I'd love it if he could defend the lead till the end, but I think Froome could strike back tomorrow

Least deserved win ever.
He was gifted the win because the yellow jersey crashed out and the peloton waited for minutes to see if he'd rejoin.

Oh yes, I remember that now. i had forgotten because I believe there were 1 more mtn stages last year. Garmin are very strong this year ere, they should launch a mountain team attack PCM style.

He beat them once? So?
Kelderman beat Hesjedal today, so he can win the Giro this year as well.
Plus, Quintana wasn't the current Quintana at that point.
Shame the vid about that Catalunya stage doesn't work anymore, since I'm not sure how that stage went.
Edit: Ah, Isso clears it up. Point stands.
One thing's sure, Martin isn't close to Contador, Purito, Froome & Quintana on longer climbs.

IIRC Dan was int he break all day, it was a huge one. They had about 45 seconds or a minute when Martin attacked away and held the gap for 17 km to the line.
I never said he was. Did you read my post? Point is that he can be them once. H's not as good as them but on seperate occasions he can do better.

Without going the easy way and pointing at Henao and all the various and questionably legit pullings out of races, here are a few thoughts to explain :
- as already stated, Froome hasn't raced competitively since Oman, so his current form (where he stands compared to his potential) is unknown
- use that same argument for Porte with a different race than Oman as reference
- add a potentially actual disease (virus, germ, anything)
- we know they're strong... after 10 days of racing, 4 hours of racing, on 20-50 minutes efforts, on 7 % percentages or more, but that doesn't say what they're worth after two days, on a rather flat mountain, especially in the cold. Their power profiles (power derived from time or power per kg derived from time) is probably not perfectly suited for this.
- given they've looked thinner than thin pros, they probably suffer more from the cold than their opponents as well. |

Not feeling this discussion gets any further anyway, but allright
Yes I read the post. You said he isn't as good, but it's definitely possible to beat them all. So he should at least be a bit close to them then, if I follow that logic.
Well, I think he isn't ''close''

Yeah, lets involve Kelderman. Closer than Kittel as well. And closer than Boonen, and closer than Tony Martin. And Sancho
Though I have to see how ''2014 Kelderman'' is on long climbs, but for now, yes, closer than Kelderman.
But allright, lets leave it.
Edit:
And yes, you told me about the Catalunya stage. And then Isso cleared it up
