Last years financial accounts of the UCI analysed https://inrng.com/2013/10/2012-uci-fin...-accounts/
It will be interesting to see what Cookson can do about the Beijing elephant... |

I have to ask: how does the anti-doping fines increase by over a million from 2011 to 2012? |

Note the income of CHF 1.3 million from anti-doping fines, I believe most of this is from Alberto Contador’s 2010 Tour de France clenbuterol positive

In other news Team Saxo Bank has called a press conference thursday. In MADRID!
Picking up Alonso and Euskaltel?
As isso said, they don't have the money, and I doubt Alonso will get involved in a project that's not purely his own. I'm guessing the location has more to do with their Tour de San Luis stage winner.
New sponsor - my guess is that it's Anfi Group. Wanted to become co-sponsor after the Vuelta in 2012, didn't happen (probably because of Tinkov). Still on-board as a minor sponsor in 2013, why not take the step now that Tinkov is gone? |

Maybe the announcement of Kemo (new bike company) who is sponsoring a team next year and the event that they launched yesterday with the presence of Contador have anything to do with it?
Kemo has in their website a reference to 15 of November when they will announce it officially.

Specialized is paying Contador right? Will they continue to do so if the team is riding other bikes? Logistics shouldn't give any problems (Cav rode a sprayed specialized last year) but will they pump millions (3,4 [for a guy who isn't even the best GT rider in his team anymore] is the most appropriate I've found...) to help a team that isn't even riding their bikes?

I would actually like the mentioned changes, i am hoping for years now for shorter and more compact calendar. Also who needs three weeks of Vuelta, that race can be pretty well settled in TTT,TT and six flat stages ending with the wall + three sprinter stages. More days are just more days of the same.
We have races ending because of financial reasons left and right, also Europe has large financial problems as the whole, i think reducing the sponsoring opportunities are about time.

What I really wonder is, how can many decent enough riders have any succees or even get decent results? When big races don't overlap and overall there are much lesser races in a more compact time-frame, this will mean a even tougher competition? I think cycling is already too unforgiving. I can see that cyclists will have problem finding slots in Division 1 or even Division 2 teams, will have problems to get satisfying results in minor races because all the big guns crash everything and basically cycling becoming more and more elitist as only the very best can compete in a long-term strategy such as this.
This shouldn't be more of a problem than it is now. Even though races won't overlap, the big guns are not going to start everywhere and they will not always be in their best condition anyway. Also, when you look at the World Tour of this year, it's mainly the world class riders winning anyway, with an occasional exception (Slagter, Gallopin). And I don't think there's anything wrong with the strongest riders being dominant in the top tier of races, while lesser riders can grab their occasional success in those events, while they will still have smaller races to target too. |

More on the Kimmage fund and a recommendation to wait for ongoing legal action which should place the refund process in the hands of a neutral party (probably preferable to trusting a suspected fraudster) https://www.cyclismas.com/biscuits/sta...ense-fund/
On a related note apparently the self styled UCI Overlord was at the recent presidential vote - bizarre though says it all. |

Argos - Shimano going from strength to strength with the establishment of a Continental U-23 development team for the 2014 season and beyond. With news on the U-23 team's roster and race program to come later.

That Chris Horner Picture at his twitter account is so creepy. Looking like Lord He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.

Seems Horner went on a 20 odd tweet rant about all his sacrifices over the years to vent the frustration of no one wanting to sign him...can't think why no one's interested Chris... |

Gesink to lead Belkin in the tour of Beijing...... might be a right decision, stages 2 and 4 look like he might have a chance to win and take the GC |
