Eneco Tour 2013
Spilak23
La Redoute is 1,8 at just under 10% plus false flat at the top.

For real punchers like Gilbert, Inglinskiy or Moser

How many hours until the stage?

Pellizotti2
How far up la Redoute is the finish?

He's shown some decent uphill sprinting in Burgos.

Too many climbs beforehand, I'd say. The first few stages of Burgos were all mostly flat before a short uphill finish.

Once the race has finished can someone post the youtube video and preferably a stage report as well.
Thanks

The finish is atop (or near to) the La Redoute according to the profile. I wish the Eneco Tour would profile their climbs better, who would have thought the Polish might actually do something better. So cheers for the info Spilak.

Finish is when they turn left next to the highway. It's before the steepest part.

Stage 6 - Riemst to La Redoute (150KM)

The Eneco Tour concludes with two challenging days of cycling through the hills of the Benelux. Whilst current General Classification leader Lars Boom (Team Belkin) managed to thwart Sylvain Chavanel's (Omega Pharma-Quickstep) challenge for the white Leader's Jersey in yesterday's 13.2km individual time trial, Boom can expect to once again be on the defensive during Stage Six.

Seven registered climbs, and at least two unregistered climbs, spread over a parcours of 150km will see the peloton working hard for the spoils. With such rolling terrain it would be a surprise if the peloton makes it to the finishing line whole, though stranger things have happened. With just two days left to gain time, and several riders still in with at least an outside chance of overall victory, the general consensus is that we should likely see more selective groupings on the road.

A difficult finishing circuit awaits, as the peloton tackle the Côte de Chambralles, Côte de Niaster, and Côte de La Redoute for a second time. The finish on the Côte de La Redoute will suit the Puncheurs among the ranks of the peloton. At a reported length of 1.8km and an average gradient around 10%, and with fatigue a factor from the earlier climbs of the day, the La Redoute finish will challenge even the best.

Stage Contenders

Choosing a favourite for the stage victory could be difficult. Whilst on paper Philipe Gilbert (BMC) would be the favourite he has been failing to replicate his dominant 2011 season. Depending on the aggressiveness and daring of the General Classification contenders, we may see Chavanel challenge for the stage victory and the bonus seconds on offer for the General Classification.

Other puncheurs within the ranks of the peloton who are arguably in with a decent shout of claiming the stage victory are Moreno Moser (Cannondale) and Maxim Iglinskiy (Astana). Whilst the Italian has no been as visible and impressive among the peloton as some would have hoped, he has the required skills to push for the victory on paper. Whilst Iglinskiy would need to rapidly gain some time to become a major threat in the General Classification, letting him conserve his energy for an attack or bunch sprint.

Tom Dumoulin (Argos-Shimano) has also shown himself to be a bit of an all-rounder, so Dutch fans will be curious to see how he fares. With two riders within the current top 10 of the General Classification, Omega Pharma-Quickstep have a few tactical cards still in play. With a stage victory already to his name, and sitting just 24” behind Boom, perhaps Zdenek Stybar will surprise a few viewers.

Another local hope for the stage could be Pieter Weening (Orica-GreenEDGE). Should the Dutch rider have ambitions to rise up the overall standings then he will have to compete for time. After winning the recent Tour de Pologne the Dutchman should not be short on confidence. With his team mate Sebastian Langeveld currently just 10” adrift of Boom, the Australian outfit also have a few cards they might be able play.

It will be interesting to see how current race leader Lars Boom of Team Belkin performs. He won the 2012 Eneco Tour thanks to his strength in the time trial and over the hilly terrain. However, unless he rediscovers his climbing legs from 2009, several people would argue he may not be able to stay with the best when the going gets difficult over the two remaining stages.

Epilogue

A tough day in the saddle for the riders. Can the World Champion finally secure a stage victory for himself? Or will he be thwarted again by one of the other puncheurs or General Classification contenders?

Good preview but Boom won the eneco tour last year, not 2009. (In 2009 he won the Tour of Belgium, climbing very well in the Ardennes.)

Wilier
Crash! Gilbert, Dumoulin and Phinney involved.

Spilak23
Gilbert crashes. Dumoulin and Phinney also there.

Doesn't look good for Phinney

Wilier
Phinney's out I think.

Spilak23
Peloton Just over 5 minutes behind. Group Gilbert almost 8 minutes behind

Tsk, tsk. Obviously my brain was thinking faster than my fingers, since Ruben did say Tour of Belgium. Didn't help I've been working hard on a couple of other projects, so didn't devote as much time to fact checking.

Back to the race, ouch that didn't look pretty for Phinney. If the abandonment reports are true, I sure hope he is okay after that crash.

Information was clearly wrong. 35 seconds between Boom group and Gilbert

Wilier
Dumoulin returned. Gilbert not yet.

ruben
Tom Dumoulin back, good, but that cost him a ton of energy Sad

Gilbert is simply not good after that fall clearly. He looks like he is climbing backwards

Wilier
Now Gilbert's back.

ruben
Gilbert doesn't look well physically though

Wilier
Peloton's flying towards La Redoute.

Wilier
Boom in trouble.
