When I started this blog, I told you one of the reasons was to make the sport transparent. So here's what happened.
Yesterday morning, at 6:30 am, two guys rang my doorbell. Of course, sleepy sleeperson I am, Gina woke up and answered the door. She needed a cannon to wake me up. It turned out they were men send by the UCI, testing for banned substances. They took some blood and my morning piss. Didn't matter, being woken up that early, I was pissed already.
But after my initial anger, well not really anger, more 'taken by surprise', I felt glad and proud. I know they won't find anything out of bounds and I'm glad we're getting tested like this. I only wish they would change their times. But this was my first doping test (in competition) and I will pass the test 100%!
Wow, there really is a big support out there for me! This is great!

I hope so, thanks!

Nice top 10, it must feel nice that it is in your home country
It really is nice. Now I have to race equally good in other countries!

I thought you didn't want to start with those high stats this time
Congrats anyway, nice reports as usual.
I don't know what you're talking about...
Spoiler Sorry, what does Jean know about stats the start stats aren't high, believe me. Dev is only 0.3 and his strongest stat (MO) is 72. I thought about making it even lower but then I realized he is somewhat a talent and Pinot is already 79 MO and only 2 years older or something Plus TT is only 57 (limit 59), so he'll have a hard time going for GCs!

Ahh Lugano. Beautiful city. The Monaco of Switzerland
I wouldn't really know about that, never been to Monaco! But Lugano is beautiful!
tpinot wrote:
a little advice, try to arrange a meeting with Franck Pineau, he is the trainer of FDJ for the time trial
I think it'll be obligatory if I keep my TT skills like this! Thanks for the tip, though.

Wow, 7th, with all those big names! Amazing!
Thanks! Well, I do have a decent finishing punch, so if I can finish in a group, I'll usually finish at the front of that group.
pcm2009fan wrote:
A great placing. But, if you could go back, would you have attacked at 50km to go when you felt best, and gone all-in for the win?
I've wondered myself, too. To be honest, if I wouldn't have received a direct order not to attack, I would've done it, for sure. But Sky was chasing pretty hard so I don't think it would've amounted to much. There's always a chance, though...

| GP di Camaiore | | | | 1.1 |
Profile
Well, first we skimmed the coast in Southern France, then it was to Lugano, now we're going South to Camaiore. I won't return home after this race, instead I'll travel further south to Rome for the GP del Lazio (Roma Maxima).
It's a hilly profile, so it might suit me.
Squad
Pinot is here mainly to get in the right form for Paris - Nice. But he won't let an opportunity go passed him. Thanks to my 7th place in Lugano, I am listed as free agent today.
Goals
Team Orders: We don't have to control the race, there are much stronger teams here. Just be an opportunist. Don't take risks if you're going to Paris - Nice, we don't need an injured team member.
Individual Orders: You can go your own way today, Jean. I know you attack like a madman, and I can't stop you all the time, so get it out of your system in these races, when it matters less if you fail.
Personally, I think he's got it wrong. I'll always be an attacker, but I've already learned to much in so little time. I've learned a lot of how races work and I'm not stupid. I'll take some risks but I'm not really a madman. Though this is just Madiot's style of coaching.
I don't like the middle of the peloton. I prefer being either at the front or at the back. So today I opted for the front!
With the breakaway within reach, and nobody to stop me today, I attacked! The chances of succeeding were depressingly low, but following when the real punchers attack is even tougher. It's all about taking risks!
I got over the hill alone and picked up the breakaway! Downhill I lost a lot of time and crossing the finish line (local laps), the peloton caught me already.
I didn't spend all my energy yet, but I needed to do immediate damage control! I went to the middle of the peloton (a place of doom) and tried to recuperate a bit of energy for the finale. I had to hope that nobody would ride away solo. Again, slim chances.
And then it rained attacks! The pace went up, but luckily I had recovered a little bit already. I followed in 30th position.
Moreno felt like a boss and sped away!
He made it to the finish alone, what a show of strength!
I survived in the first chasing group and we sprinted for the fourth place. I was going pretty good at 1 km before the finish!
But my attack had definitely cost energy and I didn't hold my sprint. No big deal, I finished 17th, which is still pretty good in this strong field!

I did all right, I think. My attack failed miserably, but at least I tried. In the end I finished top 20 so that's pretty good. If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go lay down now. After that sprint I saw black spots...
See you later!

Loving the gaps on the hilly classics though
@Jean: Great results so far - keep up the good work! I look forward to seeing what you might be able to do later on in the season with your aggressive style of racing

Great to see you come good out of the start of your career!
EDIT: @web page maker: Why did you set Guadin to FDJ? That completely ruins my favourite team But that gives you strength to the team at least

This tempo won't keep up. It's only because the game is new and my friends all still have exams until Monday. But don't worry, the pace will drop a bit every day. One more race today, though.

I love Gaudin, so I wanted him on the team and I could use another cobbled rider! |

| Roma Maxima Classic | | | | 1.1 |
Profile
Seems like a tough profile. We're racing in the area of Rome, which is nice, I've never been here before.
Squad
Démare is listed as absolute leader. Only Gaudin is here to build up form and has no work to do.
Goals
Team Orders: We've done some reconnaissance and the hills are not as steep as they look on profile. Arnaud Démare should be able to hang on, so we're putting everything on him.
Individual Orders: You have to protect Démare in the hills. If you survive yourself, you can sprint for your own account, unless Démare needs you.
We started at the same place where we finished, so an excellent time to inspect the roads. They're narrow, so you need good positioning at the end!
Démare spend his time at the front, so I stayed with him. It was important to keep him at the front in the hills!
When the breakaway was finally caught, we were in danger. We expected attacks from riders like Nibali. So that meant it was my turn, I made a decent pace to scare off attackers.
But a little Swiss neopro from me couldn't scare Nibali, he attacked!
He and Moreno created a gap. Luckily other teams joined in the chase. I started preparing for the sprint.
The two leaders were caught and we were heading for the sprint. FDJ had done its recon excellent! Démare came up next to me.
"Take my wheel and try to get a top 10 place"
I was flattered that he offered me his wheel, but it was a poisonous gift. He sprinted away from me as fast as a speeding bullet!
However, I was good at the front and a top 10 place for me was near! He had an easy victory! Coming over the hill was the toughest for him.
I was so glad I joined in the celebration! To my surprise I finished 7th, what a great result!

It was a good race. The whole team worked together and Démare proved he is indestructible when he puts his mind to something! I get my second 7th place and I'm putting myself on the map! I'm a happy man.
I also feel I'm really starting to feel good in the peloton. I'm really starting to get accustomed to this way of life. I feel great! I'm also making a name for myself in the group, I have to get regular results like these!

Great results so far - keep up the good work! I look forward to seeing what you might be able to do later on in the season with your aggressive style of racing
If I keep bringing home results like these, I'll get more freedom for sure!

It was a nice attack Jean, keep that up, fans love attacking-type-of-riders
Good to hear!
Spoiler I know it's going really, really, really fast right now, but like I said before, it's real new game and my friends have exams until Monday. Don't worry, it won't stay this fast. Pace drops as soon as tomorrow. |

Uhmm... I don't know, Maybe it's another Michael Rasmussen? I didn't really notice him in the race.

Rome had some problems with local traffic so the race isn't in the actual center anymore, instead it's raced at the outskirts of Rome, as you can see.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!
The next race I'll be starting is Route Loire Atlantique, back in France!
