But the pictures of the snow are mesmerising really

Oh god not Paulo Martins. Yes, this climb where "history was made", that has been including in MSR since that long lost year of 2008. My god such history

What else could be done? What would you do?
You can't cancel the race - this is a monument and there are far too many financial interests at stake. You can't reschedule because that would be difficult in terms of permits, UCI allowances and getting the riders who you want to turn up (given that the cobbled season really opens next week too).
So don't complain, this is just what has to happen. Would the full race be better? Sure, and no one is going to denyy that, but this is the best that RCS can do with the limited options that they have.

If this will really be a case of 'survival of the fittest', I think Sagan, Cancellara or Chavanel have the biggest chance of winning today. No way Cav or any other pure sprinter will reach the finish line in the front group.

But everyone will work against Cancellara. Looks like a Sagan win for shore. |

Race organisation was horrible today, either you cancel, either you work out a good solution, not change every 15 minutes.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

More likely that everyone will work against Sagan, imo. He's by far the biggest favourite

Watching this makes me realise what a great move it was to add Le Manie to the route. Capo climbs can't arrive soon enough

They could cancel it, wouldn't be the first race canceled due to snow this year. This was just a disgrace for this race, a monument. I can understand them cancelling Turchino, what I don't get is how they failed to see the same thing would happen on La Manie until just before the restart. I also can't understand how they put everyone that arrived at Turchino in the same time (excluding the breakaway). Pure amateurism.

RCS can't do that without voiding a hell of a lot of sponsorship. Not to mention Italian cycling fans losing all faith in RCS and possibly even protesting other events (think what happened with Crostis in Giro 2011, but a billion times worse). Further, there were television contracts all over the world, which is not the case for any other race that has been cancelled thus far. Their hands were tied - the race had to go on in one form or another.

Also, in this race there is only snow at the highest hilltops and not along the entire course.
How hard can it be?

I agree. The race have to be raced, even when there should only 10 riders arrive to the finish. Many have prepared for this and cycling is about suffering, so let them suffer and let the strongest win.
