maxime86: Thanks Wink

Jesleyh: Uhm, I don't know, bread, spaghetti? Grin

dienblad: Thanks, his heart rate was out of proportion for a while there, so he didn't have any choice but dropping out for a while!

FreitasPCM: Thank you!

JuanMotr: I'm glad you did, that's the main reason I'm doing it Smile (except from the fun I have playing, of course Pfft)

sutty68: Thanks, with the last stage being a time trial, he should get a good performance there.

PCM rulezz: Well, all they really said was: "pizza, spaghetti?". But it was a nice chat, really Pfft

Tirreno - Adriatico :: Stage 6

The final stage before the (short) time trial. With real cannons like Rodriguez and Sagan, we had a plan to do something a little different today.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tirreno601_zps0d01e38f.jpg

A very hilly profile, with a local round as a finish. We're in for a tough day, once again.

Stijn Van Gent

Well, nothing much for me to say today. I spent my day riding an easy pace. I feel my form coming for the cobbled season and the last thing I want now is to take any risks.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tirreno602_zps1a75d55a.jpg

Willy had a pretty rough day, but I'll let him tell you about it...

Willy Wouters

The breakaway, consisting of 8 men, had been given a big gap. Since some of them threatened my position in the overall classification, I couldn't let that happen. The peloton didn't seem interested in the breakaway, so I went on a lonely journey to join them! Maybe even move up in the classification? with 80km left to ride, I attacked.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tirreno603_zpse4c467da.jpg

But suddenly, the pack awoke. They kept me at a constant distance and moved along with me.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tirreno604_zps8162c016.jpg

One local round later I realized I was getting nowhere, so I dropped back into the pack. The breakaway was closer now anyway, maybe the pack would find it useful to get them back.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tirreno605_zps9ed7f7f0.jpg

But they didn't. As soon as I dropped back in, the pace slowed dramatically and the breakaway gained seconds by the meter. Incredibly frustrating for me! So, with the much-appreciated help from Van Leijen, I attacked, again, this time 60km from the finish.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tirreno606_zps0d170942.jpg

Once again, the pack woke up and chased me down. I must admit I was really starting to get PO'd then.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tirreno607_zpsc0f2cc12.jpg

They caught me and, guess what? The pace slowed.
Luckily I had managed to nearly close the gap to the breakaway group. With only 2 minutes left, the peloton started thinking about a stage win, so Sagan attacked and crushed what was left of the breakaway.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tirreno608_zps4347454b.jpg

But I was dead, stone dead. The sprint started and everyone passed me by, it seemed so easy for them.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tirreno609_zpsea1b92ad.jpg

Valverde won the stage.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tirreno610_zpsb4c3e496.jpg

I finished 40th. Lucky for me they didn't give out time differences, or I would've been dropped at least 10 places in the GC. I was really mad when I crossed the finish line. But as soon as I had the chance to rest my legs, I thought: that's sport. I got over it and that's that. It's just not worth getting angry over, that's something I learned today.

Tirreno - Adriatico :: Stage 7

The final stage, a short time trial.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tirreno701_zps929c417c.jpg

The route is a bit too short to make any real differences, but with Van Garderen breathing down Willy's neck in the GC, we can't afford any slip-ups.

Stijn Van Gent

Because of my dislike of time trial bikes, I completed the time trial on a usual bike. I didn't end high up, but that was never expected today.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tirreno702_zpsb0e8ee92.jpg

Overall I'm very happy with this experience. I felt what it's like dying in the mountains and what it's like sprinting with the absolute top. It's been extremely interesting and I hope to return here one day to win a stage. But now all my focus lays with the coming races, starting with Dwars Door Vlaanderen.

Willy Wouters

Sun was up and gave everyone a warm feeling on their skins. I enjoyed every second of it.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tirreno703_zps7ffc0528.jpg

I took a pretty good start, I think. It's only halfway I started slowing down a bit.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tirreno704_zpsed2f49c0.jpg

At the finished I realized I shouldn't expect any miracles today. However, I still rode a pretty good time trial!

Well, that's the end of our first World Tour adventure. Coming here, I didn't dare dreaming of a 14th place overall, but I did it anyway! I hope I can carry this optimism into the Giro later this season and get an equal performance there! Although three weeks is still very different from eight days, I will try just as hard!

Milano - San Remo

Greipel didn't have the legs to finish it off in the sprint and finished only 12th. World Champion Mark Cavendish won.

The team management hopes to pick up some badly-needed World Tour points in the coming classics, all eyes are turned to Jurgen Roelandts now!

Thanks for being here with us,
Stijn & Willy

Firstly, I'd like to thank everyone for following (and commenting)! So, thanks Wink
Secondly, I'd like to ask you something, the International Cycling Week is coming up for Willy, while Stijn will battle the cobbled classics. How would you like the reports to go, since they're being raced at the same time? Chronological, or not? Or should I just give a smaller summary of the entire stage race where Willy will participate? Because personally I believe the classics are a bit more interesting than the International Cycling Week (without any real mountain stages). Your opinion?

SSJ2Luigi
smaller reports for willy seem the best option imo.

Jesleyh
Wow, this story is fast. Nice 14th place in the GC.
And about the question. You could divide the Cycling Week in Part A + Part B(+ Maybe Part C)
You start with reporting Part A from Willy's race, do some races with Stijn, and then report part B(and if you also have a part C, after part B do some races with Stijn and report part C)
You can choose yourself if you want a big report or just a summary.. Wink

I like Jesleyh idea. Split Willy's races into parts, with Stijn's slotted in the middle Wink

Focus on the classics, with some small reports from Wauters's race. Smile

P.S. A very nice Tirreno, Willy close to the top-10. Wink

I would go for the classics

Thanks for all the tips and your opinions here. I found a solution Smile
I'll try to keep it chronological, though. Mainly because it's a blog and I'd like to keep it as realistic as possible, so people blog chronological, right? Wink

Anyway, thanks for following!

Settimana Ciclistica Internazionale - Stage 1

Hi, there!

My first race for Lotto Belisol without Stijn. While he's back in Belgium to work his way up the food chain in the cobbled races, I stayed behind in Italy for the Internation Cycling Week Race.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/45_zps2573aecb.jpg

Things get pretty hectic around here, so I won't have too much time to report the races. I'm sure you'll be able to catch the race on television, I'll just be posting the current standings.

Looking the the profiles and seeing as there is another team time trial, I decided to go for something else than the general classification. See if I can get that Mountain Jersey!

Vuelta Ciclista a Catalunya

Hey everbody,

Just a small update from the World Tour race going on at the moment. Our very own Jurgen Van Den Broeck won his first race of the season, a stage in Vuelta Ciclista a Catalunya! He'll defend the leader's jersey until the end, knowing him!

Settimana Ciclistica Internazionale - Stage 2 & 3

A hilly stage and a team time trial, so nothing important happened. I lost some time on stage 2, there weren't any KoM points to be won, anyway. And the team time trial had a surprisingly good result, 6th with the team!

Until later,
Willy
