F1 track ? None or almost none of the existing ones manages to be financially healthy. The Ecclestone fees are higher than all the income they could get from tickets, advertisement, etc. It often ends up in public money being paid, or in circuits being removed from the championship calendar.
Greece ? Agree with kumazan's A and B.
They're staying because it could be the beginning of the end of the Eurozone if they left or were kicked out. Plus it's probably the best way for them to sort out their problems and become financially healthy on the long term.
Ireland ? You managed to not have to quit tax dumping, which got you shit loads of money from banks, international firms, etc. when economical growth was still there. That's quite a gift, or say, it could have been worst.
I don't normally think about it, but I have never been happier that Norway isn't a part of the EU than I am now. Here we have hardly noticed the financial crisis at all, the only area that has been hit is the export industry.
There's a fine line between "psychotherapist" and "psycho the rapist"
"Small government" and far-right lobbyist for the first one. Ron Paul is more or less along the same lines anyway. Reduce all taxes, cut all the welfare state, blablabla. Libertarians at work.
Sorry to be harsh, but frankly, what a bunch of crap in what they claim. The part about nuclear power plants is just laughable. No risk, as proven by reports, let's build them in California. Yeah, no risk, just ask the Japanese what happens when you build those on seismic zones.
The part about religion is no better. Mitt Romney looks like a nice dude in comparison.
How can people seriously contemplate voting for such people ? That's beyond my understanding. It's not like what they offer has not been tried and has not failed before.
Oh well...
If it makes you feel better Aquarius, I've never heard of her and I have a degree in Political Science. She's not really a libertarian though. This is how I imagine she got into the race. Mrs. Lane and her husband are sitting at the kitchen table. Mr. Lane is reading the newspaper.
Kathyern Lane: "Honey, look at these politicians. They are all bad people."
Mr. Lane: "mmhmm"
KL: "Somebody should do something about this. Don't you think?"
ML: "mmhmmm."
KL: "Honey, I'm going to do something about it. I'm going to run for President."
ML: "mmhmmm"
KL: "I'm going to make a website, and it's going to be filled with all my fantastic ideas. Aren't my ideas great?"
ML: "Mmhmm."
end scene
In my opinion Ron Paul isn't a true Libertarian. He's got the support to make a legitimate 3rd party, but insists on being part of the Republican party. He ends up splitting the libertarian vote with the real Libertarian Party nominee, Gary Johnson. I'd welcome a legitimate third party challenge, just for the sake of having a third party.
And I checked the wikipedia page listing candidates and she's not on it. People who are on the list include Terry Jones, the pastor who burnt Korans a few years ago for the publicity, and a singer from Lamb of God.

Just because you can see through those arguments, doesn't make you an 'Obamalover'. That guy's made some serious mistakes as well. Nothing comparable but still...

Question: Why Ron Paul and not Gary Johnson? I understand that he has the star power, but he's holding Libertarians back by staying in the Republican party. He's trying to change a monolith from the inside when the opportunity is there to actually lead a movement.

He is pro-choice and pro-immigration. That's pretty much why in short. I don't agree with those things, no offense to people who do.
By the way, snippet from last night's debate I found hilarious.
Obama: "We neeed more funding for schools, and I can help provide that."
Romney: "You're the one that spent 90 billion $ on green energy, and none of that on schools."
Obama: "Damn."
This Kathyren chick is pro immigration. She proposes raising the work visa quota to allow educated immigrants in to work. She tried to argue, but left the method to her madness out of her argument, that raising the quota would increase job creation.
Really I don't understand why so many people are averse to immigration. You see a problem, I see the solution. People want to come in, so let them in. Put them on the books, let them work, let them pay taxes.
Americans have always scapegoated immigrants when things weren't going exactly to plan. It's always, "look at these people, they aren't Americans, it must be their fault." The reason California has a two trillion dollar economy is precisely because of immigrants. Without immigrant labor, be it Chinese, Korean, Okie, Japanese, Irish, or Mexican there would be no agricultural industry here, no transcontinental railway and without these things there would be no Silicon Valley, no Hollywood, no reason to build massive ports in the SF Bay Area, or Long Beach, or San Diego, no manufacturing.
They have to buy groceries somewhere. They gotta buy gas too. Sales tax and gas tax right there. Just like me when I go to the store. If they were American citizens they would fall well below the poverty line, and when they filed their taxes in April they would get all of it back, just like I did when I was a minimum wage employee. I see serious flaws in your logic. If not paying income tax precludes you from being a real American then I think we have a big problem.

This lady? She could be a good clown, but US president? I like the part about nuclear power plants are safe in California, Japan says hello. And releasing the drilling restrictions, well it is your country...
Edit: Now i see the topics was discussed heavily, nothing much to add here.
Edit 2: The most strange part for me when i see/hear US citizens discussing immigration. Because you are all immigrants right? I think the only one who should discuss it in the past are the native indians (well colonists make the slaves and animal beings from them, so no discussion there). And as Levi said, i think that USA benefits abnormaly from immigration (maybe the hispanic one is the problem) in industry, agriculture and so.

We have the same problem in Australia, the political footbal that is the asylum seeker issue or as the ignorant or uneducated call them boat people.
1. By world standards we have a small amount of people trying to find a new home and 2nd is that the way this country was colonised by the british was via boat, another word to use would be invaded.
So in theory we are all boat people unless you are indigenous

I think immigration's benefits outweigh the cost. People here will make the case that allowing educated and wealthy immigrants in en mass is a good idea because it brings in capital, both human and liquid. Those same people will often say that poor immigrants, particularly Hispanics, are drains on the state budget, because they use public goods and don't pay taxes. (which, as I said is only partially true. 47% of Americans pay no federal income tax, and undocumented immigrants almost exclusively fall within this income bracket. As noted above, they do pay other tax forms, those same taxes that the 47% pay in lieu of income tax.)
However, when the children of immigrants progress through the public school system they will eventually fulfill this "American Dream" that this country is supposed to be about. Case in point, I had a roommate who was born in Michoacan. I don't know his parents immigration story(it would be rude to ask I think), but the odds are good that they were undocumented at some point. Now he wants to be a history professor. At some point he will put back into the system more than he took out as a kid. It's not like we are allowing moochers across the border in droves. These are hardworking people who want better life.
The US is facing a demographic crisis. We have an economy (and associated safety nets like medicare and social security) that relies upon growth in order to be successful. Part of growth is the expansion of the labor market. Currently the US's natural population growth rate is flattening out. Growth has only been achieved by immigration. It's this free market thing that we are so gung ho about. There is a demand, and there is an associated supply.
I know making an argument that involves millions of human stories from the angle of economics seems crass, but money can be very persuasive. I do the same thing when I argue against projects like the Keystone XL pipeline. You can spout off about the environment all you want, but some people don't care. Inform them that, no matter how much you drill, the price of gas will only go up until it's all gone (in about 40 years), and that there are feasible alternatives like hydrogen fuel cells already in production and they will listen.
Edit: And more important everything mentioned above is that Mexican Americans have made the US National Football team better. Michael Orozco Fiscal scored the goal that won us a recent friendly in Mexico, at the Azteca for the first time ever.
Edit 2: EVEN more importantly than the improvement in our soccer team is the food. Good Mexican food is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO delicious.

And eventually the pressure from the south will become so intense that there is going to be an immigration rush on Canada. I'm buying snow gloves, a jacket and a sleeping bag tomorrow. Ima go live with valverde321

Voting for people you agree with is fine. Agreeing with people who're plain wrong in many (most ?) of their claims is problematic though.
Me, an Obama-lover ? As whacko said, he's done many things wrong, but his four years have still looked much better than 8 years of Neo-cons, and the current state of the GOP, forcing a rather moderate guy like Romney to look like a far-right guy worries me. People even further right are scary (in the sense that the'yll probably make more hatred towards USA/western world grow, they're ready to sacrifice everything, like environment, to have a good economy).
Just for the record, before I'm getting called a socialist, or something like that, when arguing with other Europeans, mostly French ones, I went into countless arguments with communists (yes, much worst than socialists), and French socialists. I don't really have the opportunity to debate with them any more, which is why I wrote "was".
I also agree with Levi on immigration, no matter I may once have believed, studies do indeed show that on the long term, it's a good thing for a country, because they become direct on indirect tax-payers, and an increased numbers of customers means an increased production, thus economical growth (in short - Levi explained it better/longer).
Closing borders has rarely/never worked in history. Dozens if not hundreds of countries have tried that, most have miserably failed on the long term. Of course I don't mean all borders should be opened-wide either, let's keep extremes to idiots.
