OPQS didn't have great Giro ( Cataldo was the only highlight there ) and very forgettable Tour. 3rd time lucky maybe ?
I can see Terpstra and Stybar that could win a stage ( anyone of them could - but they are the most likely ones ). They have a solid chance of doing very well in TTT. Cataldo should be their GC along De Weert but I can't see them in Top 10 in GC.
I think Martin is the most likely stage winner (the individual tt), no?
He will be Froominated...

Joe Eldridge at TT1, I suspect that he is only in the team because he founded it and because he is diabetic? Don't think I've ever seen a rider at WT or PC level with worse results.. When his profile at the TT1 website only mentions his "good Tour of Denmark" where he came dead last overall and 30 minutes behind the next rider as a feat, there is something wrong.
Nothing wrong about the diabetics, Javier Mejias is a decent hard-working sprinter who deserves to be in the team, but at the level TT1 are at and want to be at they should be more focused on diabetes awareness and participation in sports than having diabetics in the team who are of no use when it comes to racing. |

There a Pro Cont team who don't make most if not all WT races. Who cares? They are Team Type 1, right? That's everything they're supposed to stand for.
RIP Exxon Duke, David Veilleux, Double Feature, and Monster Energy

I'm double posting right now, but I said in the other thread that TT1 should focus on raising awareness for diabetes in sports more than actually having diabetic riders. Mejias deserves to be in the team based on his results, the others are in the team, I suppose, because they're diabetic. |

Its complicated but I think the best way to raise the awareness is to have the diabetic riders winning races. Not just having their team name as the only thing linking them to diabetes in any way.

The problem is that the only diabetic win the team has seen was a stage win for Verschoor at the Tour de Beauce.. Hard to see how they are going to get more diabetic wins. |

Their mission:
We strive to instill hope and inspiration for people around the world affected by diabetes. With appropriate diet, exercise, treatment and technology, we believe anyone with diabetes can achieve their dreams.
How do they do that, by throwing the diabetics under the table and start winning races with the non diabetics? How does this give hope to others with diabetes if the team supposedly raising awareness and providing hope to those with the disease wont even focus on developing the team with diabetic riders.

I agree with Valverde, because what they are trying to do could be more important than winning

Jaroslav Kulhavy, winner of MTB XC Olympic Games and world champion is rumored to end his bike career and focus on the road cycling from the next year. This would be fantastic move, i think he can have very bright future there and follow the path of Stybar.
He is not connected with any team now, but i think OPQS is clear option, because of czech owner and few friends already there, also Stybar and Lefevre were one of the first to congratulate him to the olympic title...
I start dreaming of OPQS one day with Kreuziger, Stybar, Kulhavy, Rabon and König, maybe even Barta + Velits brothers.

I don't know if it's been said but Cav may leave Sky and OPQS is on the lookout for him again.
Nothing's confirmed yet, but I read it in the papers that Lefèvre wants Cav again and Sky may be willing to let him go. |

That's transfer rumours, which should be in the Transfers thread.

Stéphane Heulot has signed a deal with a new co-sponsor (to replace Saur) late July. Name will be announced early September.

Do you know if the budget will change substantially?

Article doesn't mention it, but Heulot says he's quite happy with it, and given the transfers, I'd say it'll be more or less the same as it is now. |
