Great summary of January You've made some very good results through the month and you're also placed great in the rankings.
I'm excited to see Boonen first test on the cobbles in the end of the month, good luck

Thanks guys, your comments are very much appreciated Glad you liked the review
GP Costa degli Etruschi
San Vicenzo - Donoratico
The Gran Premio della Costa Etruschi is a one day professional cycling race between the towns of San Vincenzo and Donoratico on the Tuscany coast in Italy. The 197 kilometre long race takes place at the beginning of February.
The start of Gran Premio della Costa Etruschi is hilly indeed !
Break formed on the downhill, but should not be threatening today.
It w like Liquigas ( Sagan ) and Omega Pharma ( Steegmans ) doing all of the work.
With 12km to go the break is caught and there are two sprint trains. Colgano's for Modolo and Quickstep's one. Vermote and Martin Velits are puling the pack now.
It's Grabsch leading out Chichi, but it looks like not our day with Chicchi already suffering. Steegmans will have to finish quick to have any say here.
Chicchi indeed suffered at leading out Steegmans, so he's trying to follow Gasparotto wheel. It's 700m to go and all to play for.
Peter Sagan takes the victory in style. Steegmans finishes on pleasing 6th potion.

Team’s Reaction
That's a nice way to begin February. Our train looked good, it was just Chicchi who couldn't accelerate enough to bring Steegmans into better position. Still, we will learn from that and enjoy the result. Now off to Qatar and Mallorca respectively.

One of the big achievements with this team is getting sprinter like Tom Boonen, Gerald Ciolek and Gert Steegmans to their old level, difficult but realistic if you see what Boonen is achieving in tour of qatar right now Go for the win in Qatar!

@Beleg32 - Thanks, glad you liked it
@jona777 - Indeed, we will hope to get them all back into top shape so we can conquer the world Boonen first race is very close now
@sutty - Indeed, it was very exciting sprint, very fun to play.
The Challenge Vuelta Ciclista a Mallorca is a series of five professional one day road bicycle races held on the Spanish island of Mallorca in early February.
This stage race is officially a challenge with 5 stand alone races: Trofeo Palma, Trofeo Cala Millor, Trofeo Inca, Trofeo Deià , Trofeo Magaluf - Palmanova.
Omega Pharma QuickStep - Giro della Calbria Team
Another race to build our riders form. Most of the riders didn't race this year yet, so we don't expect much. Ciolek and Steegmans combo will hopefully get us a stage win, and Velits with Deveyns a Top 10 in the Overall.

The starlist doesn't have as many great names as last years, but still should make for a intresting race. Anton is a top rider here and should win quite easily. Valverde is his biggest opponents, with the rest of riders miles behind them. Velits and Deveyns will try to get into Top 5, but with 56 fitness it's not going to be easy. Expect some lesser know Spanish riders to shine at their home race with nationality bonus.

Vuelta a Mallorca - Stage 1
Palma – Palma
Large break has formed, but the sprinter teams would not allow it to get too much time. They were always going to be caught today.
With 10km to go it’s Omega – Pharma and Movistar with dominant sprint trains.
1.5km to go and Ciolek is in perfect position, Steegmans begins to accelerate to lead Ciolek as best as he can!
Steegmans wasn’t fast enough, so Cioek had to switch the wheel to Modolo’s. Unfortunately Hovelynck blocked us and Ciolek lost his impetous.
Modolo takes the first stage. Ciolek gets respetivce 3rd. Could have been better though, tomorrow we hope Ciolek is going to make it.

Good first stage. I don't know if it's intentional, but you forgot to highlight Steegmans in the results. |

Tour of Qatar stages will be shown after we finish Vuelta a Mallorca
Beleg32 - Thanks mate
FreitasPCM - Thanks, indeed forgot to do that, thanks for the reminder
0buKKaKe - He will almost definitely try to get into breaks, his first attack will be on stage 3. He'll try to win the KoM jersey, though it will be tough.
PCM rulezz - Thank you Yes, indeed. I doubt we would won even without Hovelynck though.
Thank you for all the comments ! Much appreciated
Vuelta a Mallorca - Stage 2
Cala Millor – Cala Millor
Same idea today. Break formed early, but it was unlikely to succeed with this being last stage for sprinters.
It's Colnago doing main bulk of the work again. Modolo is the rider to beat today.
With 12km to go it's Omega bring back the remains of the breakaway. Ciolek's is waiting for right opportunity to slip unto Modolo's wheel.
4km to go and Ciolek is in perfect position behind Modolo. Ciolek has to be attentive to strike at the right moment. We are waery of Hovelynck, 7th in the line. He was very fast yesterday.
Modolo takes thesecond stage. Ciolek didn't have the energy to out jump Modolo. Kurt gets 2nd with Ciolek 3rd, repeating last day's podium.
Result

Team’s Reaction
Two consecutive 3rd with Ciolek whose form is still 65 is not bad I would say. We hoped for a win, but Modolo was at different level. The next part of the race begins tomorrow. The hilly one, it's Velits and Deveyns who will hope to bring us some more success in Mallorca.

What a pity in GP della Costa Etruschi. In Mallorca, great start but Modolo is doing very well .. Good Luck! |

Vuelta a Mallorca - Stage 3
Inca – Inca
As promised Stybar goes into the break today. We don’t have big hopes with his low form, but at least we are showing ourselves.
Anton who lost over 6 minutes yesterday is on attack today. Dangerous rider to escape, especially Movistar has to be weary.
On the first climb already Anton is ahead of his breakaway companions. Stybar is struggling, and it looks will be soon caught by the peleton.
5km into the final climb and it’s chaos already. It’s a Movistar p'wning everybody. Deveyns is already struggling, and Velits doesn’t look much better.
Elite escape of 7 riders was made on the climb, including caught Igor Anton. König and Oliveira are most surprising names here, but both have already raced more than 10 days. Velits was never going to make into that group today.
Pablo Lastras wins stage 3 ! Very much deserved win, after all that Moivstar work. Anton manages 2nd, but doesn’t gain much in the overall. Valverde rounds out the podium.
Velits finishes on 14th, which after today is quite pleasing. He’s the only rider except Anton in Top 15 that doesn’t have 8 or more days already raced.

Team’s Reaction
Today has been tough, but Velits managed to get into that Top 10 in GC and we are happy with that. More especially looking at riders above us, all whom have as I said 8 days or more raced. We will just have to keep that up, and will have a nice result in Mallorca.

That was a hard stage, made even harder by Movistar's incredible team work. Velits can hold on to that top-10 if he doesn't struggle in the next following stages. |
