Thanks a lot for the comments.

Stage 4: Crêches-sur-Saône - Belleville
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_4.jpg
After three flat stages, here's finally one that's a bit harder. 7 categorised climbs and a lot of uncategorised climbing is on the route. It's still not a killer stage though, as the climbs are all of category 2 or lower. Also, the final 30 kilometers is very easy. That will favour the sprinters, if there are any left in the group.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_4_1.jpg
Huguet was very active in the beginning of the stage, collecting some KoM points to defend his polkadot jersey. Unfortunately many teams saw him as a threat and therefore didn't allow him to go into the long breakaway.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_4_2.jpg
Multiple attacks from Huguet prevented any long breakaway today. Instead we saw a very interesting group pulling away about halfway into the stage. The names were: LLS, Cummings, Hivert, Lastras, Hesjedal and Anton. All of them lost time in that split on stage two and were therefore not seen as dangerous by the other teams.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_4_3.jpg
We decided to shake things up a bit with an attack from Hupond up the penultimate climb of the day. Immediate reaction from some teams, and the pace lifted a lot.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_4_4.jpg
Hupond stayed clear over the last climb too, but when he came down on the flat we realised that it would be impossible for him to stay away. Just a few kilometers later we also caught the earlier escapees.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_4_5.jpg
A short little hill not far from the finish was used by Fuglsang as a springboard by Fuglsang. Geschke, Galland and Chavanel countered.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_4_6.jpg
Inside the finishing town we had Chavanel in solo lead, followed by a small group containing Geschke and not far behind them was the peloton, which was reduced to about 50 riders.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_4_7.jpg
Van Hummel was still in the peloton, so Docker tried to set up a small leadout for him. Group Geschke was now caught, but Chavanel was still leading by half a minute.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_4_8.jpg
Unfortunately VH was way too tired to respond in the slight uphill finish, and Matthew Goss took his third straight stage win ahead of Martens and Gilbert. The Aussie is clearly in brilliant shape! Also Gilbert is looking good for the harder stages.
Not the best result for us, but on the positive side Geschke moved up to 4th overall after winning the last intermediate sprint.

Stage 5: St-Symphorien - Vernoux-en-Vivarais
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_5.jpg
If this quite easy route has a queen stage, then I would say it's this one. Seven categorized climbs, with two of those being of category 1. The second of those two, the Col de la Mûre, tops out just ten kilometers from the finish. At the top of it I'm sure that we'll have a heavily decimated group fighting it out for the win on the uphill towards the finish line in Vernoux-en-Vivarais.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_5_1.jpg
Huguet joined four others in the early breakaway to defend his polkadot jersey. Unfortunately the group included some really strong climbing names in the shapes of Frank (BMC), Dupont (AG2R), Le Mevel (Garmin) and Sicard (Euskaltel).

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_5_2.jpg
On the flat part leading to the final climb of Col de la Mûre, Frank attacked bringning Dupont with him. Huguet didn't have a brilliant day and wasn't able to respond.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_5_3.jpg
Inspirated by his team mate, Cadel Evans tried a similar move together with Nicolas Roche on the same part of the stage.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_5_4.jpg
Huguet managed to rejoin the two leaders together with Le Mevel, but as we started the climb he blew up big time. They were still leading the peloton by about two minutes, so the stage win was still in reach for the three leaders.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_5_5.jpg
Evans' first attack was unsuccessful, but up the climb he tried it again. Nobody seemed to have anything to respond with and he quickly created a small gap.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_5_6.jpg
As Evans passed the three escapees, we finally saw some action behind. Ruben Plaza couldn't resist it and tried to punch away, joined by Dani Moreno.

Froome and Van Summeren also joined them, forming a group of five, leading the peloton by over a minute. The stage winner was definitely going to be one of these five.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_5_8.jpg
In the uphill finish Moreno motored away from the others and won the stage easily. Plaza beated Froome for second, while Evans had to settle for 4th. The Aussie will be hard to beat, considering tomorrow is a long time trial.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_5_9.jpg
Thomas Voeckler lead the remnants of the bunch home just over a minute behind Moreno. Geschke was unfortunately tailed off in the final uphill and finished in a second group, half a minute behind Group Voeckler.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_5_10.jpg
It could've been a lot worse for us though. Take Gilbert as an example. He was distanced up the Mûre and finished over two minutes behind Moreno. His chances of overall victory are now very slim.

Stage 6: Rognes - Aix-en-Provence (ITT)
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_6.jpg
After the two hard stages we now have a long individual timetrial, which will shake up the general classification even more. Cadel Evans is heavily expected to take over the yellow jersey from Dani Moreno, but who knows if the pressure on Evans' shoulders gets too big?

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_6_1.jpg
First man with a good time: Lars Boom, who absolutely smashed all the earlier leading times.
38'40

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_6_2.jpg
Boom didn't lead for long though, as other strong timetriallists started the course. First man to knock down Boom was Richie Porte.
38'20

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_6_3.jpg
Porte's time looked pretty solid, but it was completely blown out of the water by LL Sánchez. This could actually be the winning ride today.
37'29

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_6_4.jpg
Sánchez's time definitely was something special. Cancellara didn't even come close! The former world champion definitely had a bad day.
38'20

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_6_5.jpg
A long time later we saw a quite surprising man knocking down LLS from the top spot on the podium. Castroviejo.
37'21

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_6_6.jpg
The Euskaltel was also beaten not far later though, as Rubén Plaza showed that yesterday's second place wasn't just a fluke.
37'05

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_6_7.jpg
Seeking revenge after yesterday's time loss, Gilbert surprised everybody today with a stunning ride, almost beating Plaza.
37'14

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_6_11.jpg
Our big overall hope Simon Geschke shocked us with an amazing time! This was definitely going to be enough to defend his Top 10 overall.
37'25

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_6_10.jpg
Estonian champion Rein Taaramae was strong yesterday and did what was expected from him today.
37'39

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_6_9.jpg
Taaramae's main rival in the fight for the white jersey, Thomas De Gendt did slightly better than his adversery on the course today.
37'31

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_6_12.jpg
Cadel Evans then? Can he hold the big pressure and take over the race lead? He certainly did well. Plaza's time was blown away like nothing.
36'49

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_6_13.jpg
The only man left out on the course with a realistic chance to knock down Evans was now Froome. He gave everything, but came out just short of stealing yellow out of Evans' hands.
37'02

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_6_14.jpg
We should not forget Moreno though. Last man to leave the starting ramp today, heavily expected to lose the race lead. Was he gonna surprise everyone?
No. His time was about as expected and the yellow jersey is lifted off his shoulders and placed on Evans' instead. Moreno is definitely not out of the fight though, as he's still third overall, 45 seconds behind Evans.

Thanks everyone! I was also surprised by Geschke's great timetrial.

Sorry for the kinda messy report, hope you'll enjoy it anyway.

Stage 7: Brignoles - Biot
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_7.jpg
Stage 7 moves us back into the hard hilly terrain. Five categorized climbs are on the route, with two of them being of category one. The hard part is in the middle of the stage though, and the final part isn't that hard. It's still not easy though, and the steep uphill finish in Biot might be harder than people think.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_7_1.jpg
As planned, Huguet attacked early to try to get into the breakaway. It developed into a dream scenario, as only got one companion, David Loosli. The less challengers for the KoM points, the better!

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_7_2.jpg
After reaching the highest point of the day, three other riders joined the front duo. It didn't really matter, as Huguet had already picked up a lot of KoM points. The new names were Gasparotto, Saramotins and Gustov.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_7_3.jpg
After using his last bit of energy to collect some points at the day's last categorized climb, Huguet was so dead that he wasn't able to follow his companions in the descent!

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_7_4.jpg
Gasparotto proved to be the strongest and dropped his three remaining companions too. Was he gonna repeat the kind of solo ride that his team mate Rémy di Gregorio did on this stage irl?

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_7_5.jpg
Nah. Up the next hill he cracked and was caught as Gilbert launched a powerful attack, followed by Hupond and Van Summeren.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_7_6.jpg
More action from the field as Plaza went after them up the next climb. A lot of riders tried to follow him, but we told Geschke to stay in the group and save as much energy as possible.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_7_7.jpg
The first attack was unsuccessful, so Plaza tried it again a little while later, this time covered by Evans and Moreno (out of picture).

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_7_8.jpg
In the steep uphill finish Moreno cracked his two rivals and took his second stage win here. Evans managed to stay in contact with Moreno, but Plaza was too tired to respond in the final kilometer.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_7_9.jpg
Just behind them, Geschke sprinted to third after catching Plaza in the last kilometer. The brilliant PCM gap system decided to give him the same time as Moreno, but to our frustration everyone else was also given the same time, even though Geschke clearly created a gap.

Great racing with Geschke.

Gap system is terrible is terrible when it doesn't work to your advantage, but good when it does Wink

Thanks a lot.

@Tuco: I totally agree to that. Pfft

Stage 8: Nice - Nice
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_8.jpg
As always, the last stage of this race takes on a hilly loop outside Nice, where both the start and the finish is situated. Even though the stage five categorized climbs, it's unlikely that there will be any major changes in the General Classification after today. Unlikely, but not impossible though, and I'm sure that we'll see a great battle.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_8_1.jpg
A group of eleven made the day's breakaway. Amongst them was two Skil riders, Bonnin and as always, Huguet. Other notable riders in the group were Andy Schleck, Breschel and Curacao champion Marc De Maar.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_8_2.jpg
After being helped by Bonnin all day, Huguet pushed the pace up the day's last climb and dropped everyone except Andy. He was so happy that he even celebrated when crossing the last climb, knowing that the KoM jersey was now secured.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_8_3.jpg
In the descent we realised that the stage winner would probably come from the breakaway, since the peloton were still a few minutes behind. Schleck and Huguet had also been informed with this, so they pushed as hard as they could to not get caught by the chasers.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_8_4.jpg
Schleck tried to drop Huguet up a small kickup not far from the finish, but the Frenchman was glued onto his wheel.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/pn_8_5.jpg
After failing his attack, Schleck placed himself on Huguet's wheel to get a perfect position for the final sprint. Under the kilometer-to-go banner Huguet launched his sprint. Was Schleck gonna come around him?

No! The Luxemburger was not able to match Huguet's acceleration and had to settle for yet another second place. The chasing group caught the two in the final kilometer with Breschel winning the sprint for 3rd.

A minute later the favourites arrived lead home by Nicolas Roche. Geschke took second in the sprint from this group and retained his sixth place in the overall. A very good race for us!
