Yeah, thats how it works here.. It is the most unpopular sport, and as a matter of fact, a survey found that 38% of american males are more interested in an affair than watching the world cup but you have to cheer for you country when it actually means something and gets interesting

Well, we're not in this competition due to many different reasons (getting half of the squad out just because of not signing anthem, bad coach etc), but yeah, we are not here and that's what counts. I am sure USA wouldn't be in there if the Qualifications would let actually the best teams pass, not the ones with advantage of being on continent where football is so "popular" and where some biggest football powers are. If we're talking about results and similar teams, Serbia won against Germany in group phase, back in WC 2010.
At the end, that's not the point of this discussion, but the fact that no one (hiperbole) watch football there and they suddenly hear it on news and go crazy. Of course popularisation of the sport is always welcome, but this is not it. I'm sure 90% of these fans will disappear after WC. Hats off to real supporters of their country.
USA actually has a pretty decent qualifying group with teams like Mexico, Costa Rica , Honduras and Jamaica
And to be honest, I know more players from the US than from Serbia, so don't balme it on a bad coach and hard opponents, please.
