Tomorrow, I'll just start getting my student room (I don't know what's the correct English word for that) done I start my first year at Ghent University on the 24th of September
No shit? I'm from Ghent. What will you study? (my dad's a math professor there, so if you'll study math... )
Well, actually, I'm not 100% sure yet It will probably be Two Languages (Latin-Italian or Latin-Spanish), or it will be History I'm still hesitating, because I really can't choose But one thing's sure: no math for me
History is really interesting, I have a friend who studies it at Ghent University, it's very nice!
However, two languages is also interesting, difficult choice
Well yes, I would really like to do something with Latin, but the problem is: what would I want to do with it later?
My brother just finished his History studies and tried to do a doctorate, but he didn't get it at the last moment He got really high points, he always got 14's, 15's, 16's, 17's, 18's... He actually got a 19 for his thesis and in his last year he even got a 20 He failed for only 1 exam, and that was in his first year So yeah, if I'm going to do history, I will probably always be worse than him
And actually somebody from my last years class will do Maths next year

Excellent grades, your brother!
That's too bad for you but that shouldn't affect your choice, just do what you wanna do.

Well yes, I know But I just can't choose
So, you live in Ghent? Are you still studying? (I don't know your age ) My 'kot' (don't know what it's called in English) is not far (southeast) from Dampoort, more in Sint-Amandsberg actually And my lessons will most likely be in the Blandijn
Oh, and I see from some pages back that you bought a keyboard! (I wasn't following this thread back then) Nice! Which genre are you playing? I also have a piano here at home, 5 years ago I followed piano lessons, but I stopped those because I was really, really bad But since a couple of months, I restarted on my own (a little bit thanks to Vic Brauwers You know him?)
Spoiler
Oh god, this looks really stupid, doing a conversation in English with another Belgian of the city where I'm going to live in the next 4 years
It's the same price, and there are no big differences
- But the first one has Android 2.3 Gingerbread, while the second one has Android 2.2 Froyo (I really don't know if this is a big difference?)
- The first one has 'only' 2 Megapixels while the second one has 3 Megapixels
I think this second one is 'better', but I'm not sure. Are there connaisseurs in here?

Dampoort, that's about 10 - 15 minutes from my house by bike I live in Ghent but I'll be studying in Brussel (filmschool). My sister studied at Blandijn, though
I'm mostly playing Blues and Jazz, my favorite genres on piano Don't know Vic Brauwers, though. Just looked him up, he plays fine, very nice!
Spoiler
It is quite silly to chat in English with a fellow Belgian

I really like Drum & Bass (especially Netsky), and that's why I love to play these songs.. When Give & Take first came out (in November last year or so), I already wanted to play it on the piano. As I didn't play back then, I kept searching on the internet for a cover, but there were none. So in January, Studio Brussel made this 18-year old piano wonder come into their studios and play Give & Take live So I really looooooooooooved that And as soon as it was on the internet, I started to play the piano again, learn the song by myself and by watching him
And since a few months 'my' Give & Take is almost as good as his
Spoiler
Then I started to follow him on youtube, and when he covered Iron Heart from Netsky, I started to learn that song My version is not as good as his one, but yeah that's normal
Spoiler
I also tried Synrise from Goose, but I can't figure out the beginning of the song It just goes too quick for me
Spoiler
Then, after Werchter, I decided: It's time to do something different I saw Birdy Nam Nam on the livestream, so I searched in Youtube for 'birdy nam nam piano' and I found this one:
Spoiler
I really like this piano cover (I don't like the beginning, but from 0:30 till the end, it's just magnificent!). The original song is really, really bad, but the piano cover it just ... WOW! So I started to learn it And it really sounds good now
During The Olympics, I tried to play Muse - Survival but I just learned the chords, I didn't really learn the whole song.
Because I just started a new 'project' I'm now trying to make my own piano cover, of a song which has never been covered so far on youtube It's really difficult because I can't see how it's supposed to be played I have to find out everything myself. And this is the (really great, imo) song:
Spoiler
Netsky ft. Diane Charlemagne live @ Pukkelpop
A few notes:
- he has a AWESOME keyboard, while I just have a old piano
- he plays for more than 10 years, while I just restarted
If I'll buy a camera with good quality, I might upload my own versions on Youtube But not yet

Be sure to let us know when you've uploaded it
And good luck in trying to cover it, doesn't sound too easy
Ofcourse I'll let you know
Especially the left hand is not easy. The right hand is actually very easy, I had it in only a few seconds.. My first 'try' was already a good one It's starting to sound good, but I'll probably have to practice alot (that's obvious )... And as I won't have as much time as I had in the past weeks, it could take a while
Just finished 3 hours of homework on a presentation after my first day in high school My English teacher was born in Catalunia in Spain (!), he has been teaching English in 8 countries in Europe, including the UK (he said he is one of wery few foreigners to teach English in England, he speaks perfect English with a slight cockney accent ), Sweden and from this year in Norway..
He told us to make a presentation about what English means to you, because he "wanted to see who is interested in the subject from day 1"...
If I'm not getting a 6 (grades are from 1-6, 6 is highest) I'd be pretty pissed..
