PCMdaily DB Stat Discussion - PCM15

There is a confusion between Ruben Veloso and Gustavo Cesar Veloso on W52 FC Porto team. The leader of the team Gustavo Cesar Veloso is in free riders instead of Ruben Veloso. Wink

NOTICE

We also decided last minute to lower Valverde to 80 mtn stat for the simple reason is that he is OP. After Fresh D comments, I actually remembered he finished 2nd in my Tour de France in a field that contained Froome, Contador, Nibali and Quintana.

This update however will only be included in the first bugfix, not in the first release.

The fact is with his high hill and strong other stats he was probably riding like a 82 mtn rider. At 80 mtn he´ll still probably ride like an 81 mtn rider but at 80 mtn he´ll probably be more realistic. Valverde is a great climber but his problem has often been riding too many races and trying to peak all year which often has him falling short especially in GT´s.

Also the reality is that Valverde is a constant pódium contender but never really a potential GT winner for several years now.

The problem is that half these Portuguese riders have the same names like Silva etc so it´s easy to confuse them.

Nibali 81 mountain. With 82, he is as big favorite as Froome in the overall position and bigger favorite than Quintana and Contador.

Quintana is the seriously not as good as he deserves (should be the only one can challenge Froome) because he uses MUCH more energy on a flat road, hill and down, this does he tired on mountain stages.

Valverde 80 and Nibali 81 will help it. They will still ride like an 81 and 82 because other stats, where they are right now ride like 82 and 83.

Do you also take a look at backup stats now and then?

Yes, Nibali has the best backup stats of the four great and always ends in front Quintana and Contador in the game. Unless he crashed or I control one of them.

@Arberg: In my tests, Nibali couldn't win a GT, when Froome was there for 3 seasons.

Landa was good in the giro don't get me wrong, but Contador had to let him go on several occasions considering he was no threat to the yellow jersey, if he went after him it would go in favor of Aru. I don't think he could have done the same if he was the best placed Astana rider imo. 80 seems alright too me, i suppose he had the potential to be a 81-82 rider anyway.

I also think Sam Bennett sprint stats is a bit overrated (78), most of his best results have come from hilly finishes or stages, best results he have got is from Qatar and Bayern Rundfart, by giving him the same stat as a guy like Coquard who gets regular podiums in world tour races is wrong. Lobato should be 77 at least imo.

I highly doubt so, considering Nibali has by far the lowest acc among the top 8 climbers or so Wink

Remember how important the influence of that one stat is, especially in mountains and hills.

Sam Bennett does suffer from inconsistency in his sprints, but if you look at some of his results from 2015 like victory at Paris-Bourges and a stage from the Arctic Race from Norway he beat both Bouhanni and Kristoff, showing he can beat faster riders and also both of those riders also have better hill stats as well. I´d say Bennett deserves his 78 as he often beats the 77 rated sprinters.

Bennetts biggest problem is his horrible positioning. I think he is number 4-5 in terms of pure speed behind Kittel, Greipel, Cav and maybe Kristoff. But he doesn´t deliver as he often looses the wheel of his train, or looses position because he´s not as aggressive as many other sprinters. He has the potential to be number 2 of the sprinters in 2 years if his positioning gets better.

I have to be a weird person, because I find some riders in my favourite team overrated in the newest DB. Smile

I mean Villella and Howes have been both upgraded to 73 MO and I really struggle to find any of their results in the last 12 months to justify this. I would rate both of them lower than Michael Woods, who is only on 70 MO. Howes has not finished in the top30 on anything you could call a mountain stage since Monarch Mountain stage in USA PC in 2014 and even then he was beaten by many riders with lower MO stat. I'm also surprised he got upgraded to 74 HIL, because he had probably his worst season as a pro in 2015 and didn't start 2016 well. I guess 12th in World Championships played a role.

The stats are not just done based on results and in the case of Howes and Villela they´ve been done for their domestique duties. Stat 73 in mtns is one of the typical mtn domestique stats and these riders are important for leaders to provide as much protection as posible and there are many in db like this with results that often look poor. Therefore if certain domestiques are too low they are not going to be of any real use as mtn domestiques at WT level.

Howes was either 72 or 73 in last db, Villela was upgraded and Woods has come up a couple of divisions and upgraded mostly in hill where he has shown good form, I fully expect Woods to develop into a better mtn rider than 70 for the next db.
