It took some moving around, but it looks like I have finally found a steady role with my hometown club. I'm in a pretty comfortable spot with a big name striker in George Sykes and wingers in Ryan Charles and Charley Barker up top, plus one of the best players in the league in Jake Forster-Caskey backing me up.
I'm not expected to score, just keep the team balanced and in formation.
Match Day #30 at Haringey (15-8-7)
February 3, 2018
Our only away game for the month, and against a solid opponent.
Spoiler
Haringey 2, Canvey Island 1
Summary: Haringey jumped us early with two goals in the first half and we didn't have enough time to recover. Stat wise, a pretty even game, but I don't think we deserved a loss here.
Rating: 6.7 - Sub-par performance and I was subbed off late for another attacking player.
Player of Game: Aaron Wickham, Haringey (8.2)
Match Day #31 vs. AFC Sudbury (13-7-11)
February 10, 2018
Sudbury is unbeaten in their last nine games.
Spoiler
Canvey Island 3, AFC Sudbury 2
Summary: The home supporters are going to be talking about this game for a long, long time. An incredible come back when all seemed lost. Tied at 1-1, they had a played sent off in the 65th minute.
We pushed numbers forward late, but Ryan Horne picked up the scraps on a free kick to give AFC Sudbury the lead in the 89th minute.
Yet, 16-year-old super sub Richard Bonner came to the rescue in his second career appearance for the club. With five minutes of extra time awarded, Bonner's first career goal was the equalizer in the 92nd minute on a perfectly played through ball by Jake Forster-Caskey.
Then, 56 seconds later in the pouring rain, pandemonium ensued.
Rating: 8.0 - If you couldn't tell, that's me finding Bonner at the back post for a game-winning assist. My first career assist is a memorable one. And yeah, I got a yellow card. But, the referee was handing them out like free candy. The team was pumped up after this win. We didn't even care that we had all been shown up and saved by a 16-year-old.
Player of Game: Richard Bonner, Canvey Island FC (8.7)
Match Day #32 vs. Hertford (5-19-11)
February 17, 2018
Second-worst team, but they have been playing decent lately.
Spoiler
Canvey Island 0, Hertford 0
Summary: Zzz zzz zzz... Park the bus prevails.
Rating: 6.7 - I was average and didn't get any help.
Player of Game: Zachary Birse, Canvey Island FC (7.4)
Match Day #33 vs. Grays (22-5-6)
February 24, 2018
Second-best team, a chance to prove we have a pretty good team.
Spoiler
Canvey Island 2, Grays 1
Summary: We are the real deal. Grays got the opener in the first half, but a controversial penalty call on a tug in the box put James Walker on the spot. He buried his 15th goal of the season and kept our penalty record perfect on the season (8/8).
Walker than provided the game-winning assist off his head and onto the foot of Ryan Charles in the 81st minute.
A season-record 361 fans flocked to our home venue of Park Lane.
Rating: 6.7 - I had an average game, but picking up my third yellow card of the season dragged my rating down.
Player of Game: Barry Cogan, Grays (8.3)
League Standings (33/46 Games Played)
We have cracked into the Top 10 and are just six points back of 5th place. Even though we have now beat Grays twice this season, I don't think we will have time to steal that promotion spot away from them.

Happy Helper: In reward of Marcus Diamond picking up his first professional assist, 10 random stats will get their points doubled and 3 random stats will get their points tripled in this training session.
And, because this wouldn't be much fun without risk, five random stats will have their points cancelled out in this training session. Choose wisely.

Best finisher on the team in my first two races last month. My biggest advantage is already being in good shape because of football season. I'm peaking early and I expect my legs to be rubber come July. Got to make the most of this while I can.
Race Day #3 at Ster van Zwolle
March 5, 2018
Time to get the legs turning for a sprint finish.
Spoiler
Summary: A sprint finish for the handful that actually wanted to put in the energy to sprint at the end. The win went to Asbjørn Kragh Andersen, but if you look closely in the background. Yep, that's me.
Result: 9th - First career Top 10 and all I had to do was sprint. Many riders in the pack decided to take the finish off and watch their sprinters. Pretty stupid if you ask me, but I'll certainly take the result. I've improved my result in every race so race, going to be hard to maintain.

Race Day #4 at Rabobank Dorpenomloop Rucphen
March 11, 2018
Another pan flat trip for the sprinters.
Spoiler
Summary: While the sprint trains where heading to the front of the peloton, a huge crash took out over half the field with 12kms to go.
Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. I was on the right side of the split while all my teammates where left behind. Almost all the top sprinters were disposed of as well, then it hit me: I could win this thing.
I got myself in the perfect position with 1km to go, all I needed now was the kick to finish it off. I could see my name in the headlines.
Result: 4th - Oh, so close! I couldn't believe it. I just happened to be at the right place, at the right time. I couldn't have asked for a better start to the season. This run of form has been impressive.

Race Day #5 at Cholet-Pays de la Loire
March 25, 2018
Narrow roads and undulations, so not a simple flat race.
Spoiler
Summary: A crash fest in the first 50kms with rain and twisting turns. I hit the asphalt once, but nothing major. Just a couple cuts.
The narrow roads slowly picked the peloton a part. If you weren't paying attention, then you were left behind. I stayed near the front, holding on for dear life.
With 17kms to go and lead group trimmed to 26 riders, I saw an opportunity to attack with the tempo dipping for just a moment. A gutsy (or foolish) move, but I was feeling good and wanted to test my luck.
My attack worked. A group of five of us pulled out a 30 second advantage. All the favourites were with me: Julien Simon, Lilian Calmejane, Xandro Meurisse and Cyril Gautier. This was insane, I would have never pictured myself to be in this position.
Especially after picking myself off the ground earlier in the day.
Result: 6th - They sprinted away at the finish and I was passed by Samuel Dumoulin from behind, but a 6th place while racing against some very tough competition is amazing.
I finished all three of my races this week inside the Top 10. If I keep this up, then people are going to start calling me the next Peter Sagan.
Only one race next month, but it's a big one being my first race on home soil. Not sure how good I'll do on the cobblestones, but I'm looking forward to finding out.

Where Did That Come From?: After a month of magic from Marcus Diamond, JLT Condor manager John Herety gave Marcus a raise (2,000 pounds per month) and an apology for ever doubting him. What should Marcus buy with his new funds? The possibilities are endless.
Home Sweet Home: How will Marcus Diamond do at the Rutland-Melton Cicle Classic? Whichever member guesses the closest to where Marcus finishes will get their points tripled from this training ride.
Game Note: Difficulty is on Hard, I didn't think I'd be this good since I haven't played PCM in a while. I'll bump it up to Extreme next season.
Wow, awesome racing from Marcus, seriously amazing
Rutland-Melton coming up? Seems like a nice race for our Marcus! 3rd is my guess, especially with:
+1 Cobbles (Rutland)
+1 Resistance (needs it after Cholet, couldn't handle so long at high effort)
+1 Baroudeur (:banana

I'm feeling pretty good after my first assist and the team is looking pretty good as well. Still, it wouldn't hurt to get back into the goal column again. Crazy that the season is coming to a close, feels like a week ago I was making my debut.
Match Day #34 at Bowers & Pitsea (8-17-8)
March 3, 2018
We smacked them 4-1 earlier in the season. Let's do that again.
Spoiler
Canvey Island 2, Bowers & Pitsea 0
Summary: Ryan Charles didn't waste any time getting his ninth goal of the season in the 2nd minute and George Sykes finished it off in the second half.
Rating: 6.7 - Didn't do much other than what I was told.
Player of Game: George Sykes, Canvey Island FC (7.3)
Match Day #35 at AFC Hornchurch (21-7-6)
March 10, 2018
The field was in garbage shape, forced to play anyways.
Spoiler
AFC Hornchurch 1, Canvey Island 0
Summary: Coach Nicky Forster summed up the game with this comment to the local media: "The fact that you are even asking me about the field conditions tells me there was a problem. It was just unacceptable and shame we couldn't play a competitive game."
Rating: 6.8 - Made a couple good passes and was subbed off late.
Player of Game: Theo Fairweather-Johnson, AFC Hornchurch (7.1)
Match Day #36 vs. Soham (7-16-12)
March 17, 2018
They haven't won a game since December 23rd - 11 games.
Spoiler
Canvey Island 3, Soham 0
Summary: A simple 3-0 win. Both wingers stepped up and midfielder George Craddock got a goal off a perfectly work set piece. Soham was just awful, with no player finishing above a 7.0 rating.
Rating: 7.3 - I was a key cog in the midfield moving the ball around.
Player of Game: George Craddock, Canvey Island FC (9.1)
Match Day #37 vs. Witham (6-20-11)
March 24, 2018
Witham looks destined to relegate. Easy win?
Spoiler
Canvey Island 2, Witham 0
Summary: Cards galore and Ryan Charles goes down with a back strain. He will be out a couple weeks. Other than that, it's the club leaders George Sykes and Jake Forster-Caskey carrying the team. Sykes with his league-leading 20th goal and Forster-Caskey buries our league-leading ninth penalty in nine attempts this season.
Rating: 7.1 - Fourth yellow card of the season. Oh well, I don't think I'm getting to the 10 yellow card mark needed to be suspended for a game.
Player of Game: Sam Collins, Canvey Island FC (7.8)
Match Day #38 at Ware (11-16-11)
March 31, 2018
Terrible run of form from Ware, five points in last 11 games.
Spoiler
Canvey Island 0, Ware 0
Summary: You get a yellow card, you get a yellow card, you get a yellow card, sure you can have a yellow card too... 10 were shown in total, five to each team. What wasn't seen? A goal.
Rating: 6.4 - Fifth yellow card of the season. Oh well, I don't think I'm getting to the 10 yellow card mark needed to be suspended for a game... unless this Stephen Artis guy refs all our games. He has handed out the most cards in the league this season - 66 in 22 games.
Player of Game: Sean Thompson, Ware (6.9)
League Standings (38/46 Games Played)
The teams at the top of the table just keep winning. Our sights are set on finishing in the Top 5, being five points back with eight games to go.
