MG World Rankings | 2024
SotD
I agree Fabianski Smile - It was more of a "don't stat drop all my suggestions like usual" to whoever does the new intake. I really could use a couple of natural top 100 riders in the future.

The top 250 one is a bit flawed obviously as it doesn't take into account the level up of a lot of my riders, but it requires 227 points in average pr. season to make the top 250. Only Farantakis have that (257). This is the other maxed riders - some are even trained quite a lot:

Spanopoulos 184 (Trained)
Kiriakidis 182
Giannoutsos 180
Kastrantas 177 (Decline after next season)
Mavrikakis 140 (Trained)
Bouglas 133 (Decline after this season)
Miltiadis 128
Stavrakakis 115
Kortsidakis 103 (Trained)
Ioannidis 83 (Trained)
Karatzios 70 (Decline after this season)

So most of them are in the 300-500 ranking, with the final 4 not even represented in top 500 based on this seasons performance (Stavrakakis with a overperforming 7th place in a PTHC classic even).

Vlatos inside the top 250 will also decline after this season btw.

You don't want me wading into this - the manager who tanked through multiple years and relegations just to get enough Caribbean's into the game to set-up a passable CT team in another years time Pfft #JusticeForPirates

So there's every reason for not making the same mistake again Wink

I would plummet into CT aswell by taking your approach btw. Coquard, Koretzky and Chiarello keeps me afloat Smile

And the same can be said about Norwegian riders, with several teams high up in the "system" but not exactly the same for the rankings. Halvorsen at 72nd is the highest?

True, but they atleast had Edvald Boasson Hagen up until now that was in top 10 most of the time. Aswell as some higher than greek level riders:
- Fredrik Strand Galta
- Odd Christian Eiking
- Tobias Foss
- Vegard Breen
- Rasmus Tiller
- Sven Erik Bystrom
- Jo Kogstad Ringheim

Enger is probably similar to Farantakis. Nesset similar to Giannoutsos, Hoelgaard similar to Vila, Vangstad similar to Christapopoulos etc.

And some out of thise world talents Smile
- Tobias Halland Johannessen
- Andreas Leknessund
- Anders Halland Johannessen

I'll happily trade Wink

EDIT: Both Enger and Galta are top 100 to btw.

With 2 Norwegian PT teams, it's not really the same. And with me in the PCT and Tafjord in the CT. There is 4 Norwegian teams. I get what you mean though, being a top flight PT team from a certain region should give some good talents over time. Seeing this is a "alternative" reality and all.

I don't get the impression SotD is arguing for Greece to become the main powerhouse of cycling Pfft I think the balance is overall pretty okay there, and certainly if there are one or two signature talents incoming over the next years, which I think is fair (not just for Greece, of course).

Thanks for the country breakdown, interesting to see. I'm afraid with the role he's playing this year, Ndayisenga will drop out of the Top 500, leaving Rwanda without a rider in there. Unless Uwizeyimana takes his spot, he's having a decent season, but not sure if that's going to be enough. Our first rookie class will be maxed next year, maybe I can train one of the Mugishas enough to compete for a spot, otherwise we might have to wait for Uhiriwe in a few years.

Fabianski wrote:
Sauber and Bralirwa have moved past us, which feels right given the strong season they're having.

It's not just a good season right now, but we're also not losing any previous points yet, this being our third full season in the game. So the long way up will get tougher next year, though if we're lucky, we might get them sweet sweet PT points Smile Either way, nice to see us climbing steadily.

Thanks for compiling this Abhi, I can only echo the others! Also, I just had a look at the very first rankings. Wild to see Isostar in 53rd place, what an impressive journey Croatia has taken that team on. Similarly Scorchio's team in 57th. Something to aspire to imitate Wink

Croatia14
The difference is that in Norway the top 50 cyclists would rather easily handle the best Greek cyclist 1on1, similarly would the Swiss cyclists (lets say their Top 25). It doesn't make sense to compare Greece to those nations, it's probably better to compare them to Rwanda (though I would argue that Rwanda overtook Greece in terms of cycling culture).

That said, I love the focus on Greek cycling, and it surely capitalizes. I agree that training funds shouldn't be included in the debate.

Finally, thanks for the update Abhi, the nice words cunego, the lovely Slovenians that outperform their expectancy by AVG and Taylor the machine.

I believe Volcanica - Fox is missing from this rankings. Smile It's very interesting to read these rankings and a little bit of history behind the teams. Let' see if we can make our presence felt in the future.

Thank you for this update!

Updated now. Apologies for that and thanks for pointing it out.

@SotD I believe MAS would be Malaysia, but which Malaysian rider is that level I'm not sure as Anuar Aziz has long since dropped from that level, and I'm pretty sure I don't own one unless Marzuki's versatility is way overrated.

It is Azman. He's rated 230th. 76MO, 77HI, 75ACC. I guess it's not horrible to put him in that area. It's always difficult, because a rider at 210 and 270 can be very similar and only form, planning etc. can tell them apart.

Similar riders like Blums, Teuns and Raileanu are also in that area.

MG World Rankings

The MG World Rankings are back for the final time for the 2022 season. Apologies again for not being more regular with this. Can't promise the same for next season, but will definitely try.

MG Team World Rankings - End of 2022 Season
There is no change at the top, and the top 2 in fact, with Isostar bowing out of the MG at the summit of the Rankings. Top spot will be up for grabs next season, a chance for someone new to take the crown perhaps? Speaking of which, King Power have made their way into the Top 3 after a very good season. ISA and Tinkoff make the biggest jump though, inside the Top 10. Moser takes the biggest fall in the PT, despite being comfortably placed in mid-table. Los Pollos make a 14 place jump despite relegation, perks of making it to the PT after back to back promotions!

In the PCT, it's Zara making the biggest jump, after they too go back to back and will be in the PT next season. Voyagin and Indosat almost mirror each other in terms of positions lost. Despite relegation, Volcanica and Crabbe do make decent jumps up the standings. On the other hand, Amaysim actually lose 5 spots even after comfortably winning the PCT.

Jura's excellent CT season prevents them from losing any ranking spots! BNZ is the only team in the CT with a positive rankings movement, not counting the new teams off course. Podium Ambition's long drawn out slide continues, but they're still some way above the lowest spots.

MG Rider World Rankings - End of 2022 Season
Similar to the teams ranking, there's no change at the top here, and that to for the top 3 spots. Dombrowski is the biggest gainer in the Top 10, with Coquard just outside. Pedersen, Ewan and Gidich are the big movers inside the Top 25, with Sivakakov just outside also making waves! Taaramae and Bewley take the biggest drop in the Top 25.

Well, I guess not dropping any spots despite relegation is as good as it could get, looking at Tryg and Podium Ambition. Given that we even increased our total points compared to the end of 2021, I guess we should have a solid base to start from next year, with the potential of jumping up some spots Smile

Stüssi's rise in the rider rankings is pretty impressive, especially looking at the riders around him. Will be tough to stay up there!

Congrats to Croatia on (expectedly) stay on top here as well, and to Bikex for getting in the Top 3 - given how the rankings work, I guess that also speaks for your long-term planning Smile

Thanks to Abhi for doing this again Smile

Look, we don't need to keep pointing out that Podium Ambition has gone from PT team to sub-CT level roster. You try building a team of Caribbean's from scratch and making it successful! Pfft
When i'm back in the PT boasting 20 fully home grown Caribbean's i hope we get as much attention Wink

Besides the top spots, I usually point out the biggest gainers and losers per division. So if you make those kinds of jumps in the future, then sure.

Didnt expect us to still be top 4. Hopefully, we can defend that spot when our better seasons leave the calculation.

Cool to see you still updating this. Always thought a nation ranking based on this (maybe top ten riders per country only?) would be the perfect way to select participating teams for world championship races (A + B World at least)
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!
