It's a massive dillemma. If they don't do anything about it what's stopping a full peloton from doing the same another time?

Rubbish! Some of the riders went around the gates and others actually pushed the gates up, no justification for that behaviour. Literally risking your life to compete in a bicycle race pure stupidity

Imo people are going too crazy about the train thing. The poles went down while they were crossing the railways. Some of them got it in the head, how are they supposed to make a stop from 55km/h to 0 in that case?
I agree, that some of those that had already stopped and still decided to go through should be DQ, but how on earth should a guy like Demare do anything but what he did? That motorcycles didn't know what to do either. Normally they arrive to a pole that has been shut down, not get the thing down while drive past.
I think the only ones who deserve to be punished are the people who came to a stop and THEN crossed, like the BMC rider that was mentioned. I don't think anyone is saying that the riders who crossed while the gates were coming down should be punished. Even if the light is red, how the hell are they supposed to see that from the middle of the bunch?

Unrelated to anything really, does anyone know if Knaven was the Sky DS at RVV? He is here today and they are actually playing this fairly well (given how unlucky they have been). If he was at RVV too, I have no idea how someone can get tactics so wrong in one race and then come here and do the right thing.

yeaah but after possible accident when one or train driving thrue peloton...it had been disaster.
there would have been so many smart people (including you) who does not understand how such thing can happens.
there was just about under 10 seconds..when police manged to stop peloton...and there was still one stupid BMC rider who decided to sneak pass around policeman back.
