Jakstar: Christopher only won thanks to being the only one with a leadout, so Gregory has a large share of this win!
Shonak: They really are coming into some great form. With Joel unable to even get near the front of the peloton it was amazing that Stevenson had one of the best days of his career
sutty: Couldn't agree more. Great and surprising.

Nice to see Joel getting into the good moves.
Very good win for Stevenson there, the team definitely bring their A game when racing in Scandinavia.
Any chance of the team racing some Asian races?
* I know they are not on the calendar, but you never know.

I've had a few hectic week in real life as well as with the ManGame, but now Joel is ready to make his comeback with Giro di Midtjylland coming right up.

As you might remember Denmark hosted the start of the Giro d’Italia back in 2012. Now they have taken the three Danish stages and turned them into a 2.HC race that will be raced this year for the first time.
That means we will start with a prologue and then have to fairly flat stages with one KOM sprint on each. Those are my target while Brenes will be our man for the GC thanks to him being our best TT’er, while I will chase breaks hoping to compete for teh climbers jersey.
Stage 1: Herning (ITT)
I doesn’t really like TT’s. When they are as short as this one I well and truly hate them!
I was the 10th rider to cross the finish line in 9th best time 28 seconds slower than Usai…
After having crossed the line I saw that my former team mate and local boy Thomas Riis had best time on the intermediate so I decided to hang out in the finish area for a while in spite of the rain.
Fortunately for me the rain stopped right after
Do I have to say that the local fans went crazy when Thomas also had best time in goal.
Stevenson had 2nd best intermediate time for us, but threw it all away on the final 4 km.
The mood got dampened a bit when the rain came back and Cort took the hotseat from Riis, so I decided to go back to the hotel to see the rest of the race.
I got back just in time to see Greg take provisional 3rd in his Costa Rican champions jersey.
Bøchman took the stage and as many as 23 riders were slower than me…

sutty: Greg did well and it's extremely important for the GC as the last two stages are very flat.
Shonak: He really doesn't He does better on the long run though.

Giro di Midtjylland
Stage 2: Herning - Herning
In reality stage 1 for me. If I am to have any luck in taking the climbers jersey here I have to get in the break both today and tomorrow. With only two hill sprints there’s no room for mistakes!
I made sure to get to the start early to get a spot near the front from the start.
It was really hard to get a gap to the peloton in the first 20 km.
Finally I managed to get away with 9 others. REWE had two guys in there but the rest of us were without team mates.
A lot of the others used a lot of energy in the intermediate sprint, but I just rolled over saving energy for my main task. We had just under 8 minutes gap with 40 km to the hill sprint and 123 km to the finish line.
I’m told that my old team did most of the work in the peloton, but I guess they should having Lasse in the leaders jersey and all.
It was truly special to ride on the bit of road with the North Sea on one side and the large Ringkøbing Fjord on the other. Good thing we had tailwind today!
When we had 10 km to the KOM I started saving bit of energy. As several of the others looked stronger than me I would have to deny them a head-to-head sprint.
With 5 km to the sprint we could already see it. Not much of a mountain this one…
With 2 km to the sprint we headed into a small downhill section, which I used to launch my attack.
I think both my analysis and strategy was right as I had a small gap at the bottom of the hill but pretty much nothing at the top.
Somehow I just managed to keep Michael Berling behind to take the jersey!
With 80 km to go and 6 minutes to the chasing peloton I decided that my day was over and I just rolled to the finish saving some energy while looking forward to a trip on the podium.
In the peloton Renström kept Brenes safe near the front close to pink jersey Bøchman and his superior looking team.
I tried helping a bit when I came back in the peloton but I had nothing to give since some late attacks proved much more resilient than expected.
The boys did great reeling in the breakers for Gregory and he repaid them with an attack 4 km from the line seeing as Novo Nordisk for some reason disappeared from the front.
I had a small chat with my former team mate Jesper Hansen in the last few km and he said that they had worked so hard reeling us guys in all day that they just didn’t have any more to give.
Brenes did his best, but was just not beast enough. I finished about three minutes later…
Two our great surprise late splits and all put Ländin into the young riders jersey even though he finished in the same group as me!
Apparently the organizers decided for some reason not to award the time gap to the front group...

Two jerseys for Fiskars Cykling, that's certainly quite great so far and hopefully the team can hang on to both. I find it a bit weird though that Joel decided to drop back from the BOTD to the peloton. If the BOTD had made it to the finish line, he would have looked pretty, well... stupid, you know.

Shonak: He not so much dropped back as sat up at the back of the breakaway since it looked like Novo Nordisk had it all under control so he was caught at the same time as the other breakers with quite a good bit to the finish line.
sutty: Nice and surprising that the gap between the two first groups wasn't awarded.

Giro di Midtjylland
Stage 3: Herning - Horsens
The final and hilliest stage of this. I will be aiming to get in the break again so I can defend the jersey as I’m not quite sure what will happen if the classification ends up even.
Both me and Sven-Bertil were very surprised about the medias interest in us before today’s stage, so we ended up at the very back of the peloton from the start and had to fight a lot to get to the front.
After 35 km I was finally at the front, but I already had a gap to bridge in order to get my spot in the break.
After about 15 km I had managed to bridge the 1’30’’ between the peloton and the break and then we were allowed to drift away. Good thing I got up when I did as it would have been close to impossible to do it 10 km later!
With 100 km to go and 20 km to the KOM I had a gap of 6 minutes along with 13 others. Everyone took their part of the work so this could be a good one with wel-known names like Kessiakoff and Borry in here.
The run-in towards the sprint was very different today compared to yesterday. For one the terrain was more hilly and we had a head-wind so going out alone wasn’t quite as appealing.
Also the break today seems a lot more solid and I was more confident that we might be able to challenge NetApp compared to Novo Nordisk – SAS…
So with 1 km to the sprint I went to the front of the group and gave it my all hoping that no one would feel like sprinting too hard.
The others seemed to think I deserve the jersey so they allowed me to go first over the hill without challenging me!
With 50 km to go the gap had been brought down to 3’11 in spite of everyone pulling their part in the break.
With 20 km to go the gap was only just over a minute so I decided to up the effort hoping to get someone with me in order to make the break last all the way.
Grande of Ekspla – Nokia was the only one, who came with me and 5 km later we were reeled back in by the break and soon after that the peloton joined us as well.
A massive crash split the peloton apart with 3 km to go and I was caught behind it. At least I avoided going down, but I really felt bad for Ländin seeing that he was caught behind as well.
Fortunately Brenes kept in contact with the front group, even though he didn’t manage much of a sprint but at least the home audience was happy to see a Danish stage win today.
Looking at stage/GC results i hardly impressed, but I'm extremely happy that I was allowed to take the climbers jersey!
My next mission is Scandinavian Race in Uppsala. The first Swedish race of the season and as such a very important rave for the team.

Rider of the Month: Jelle Vanendert, Belisol .
Nordic Rider of the Month: Erik Meineche McDermott, Novo Nordisk - SAS.
McDermott and Breschel both proved in the first two cobbled classics that they were in shape, but still I don’t think anyone had expected them to take 1st and 3rd in Ronde van Vlaanderen with McDermott winning, Vanmacke on 2nd and Vinther 11th.
In Vuelta al País Vasco we were treated to another Kreuziger-show, this time including the GC win, with the Nordic highlights being a couple of top 10’s from Laengen and a 2nd place on the final TT from Quaade.
Yet not a lot of Danish fans worried to much about what happened in Spain with Paris – Roubaix coming up. As you probably remember Erik Meineche McDermott won the race last year. This year his team outdid that achievement!
McDermott won with Breschel (both Novo Nordisk - SAS) on 3rd and Troels Vinther (Astana) on 4th place while Saxo – Tinkoff got last year’s runner-up Gallopin on 10th. Boom was the rider managing to squeeze in between the Danes.
The Ardennes were off to a brilliant start with Nordhaug (Statoil) and Matzen (Novo) finishing 6th and 7th in Amstel Gold Race. The good fortune disappeared for La Flèche Wallone where Nordhaug again was the best Nordic rider on 15th. An achievement he repeated with a 13th in Liège. Vanendert won Fleche Wallone and L-B-L while Tosh Van der Sande won Amstel.
In Tour de Romandie things got better again for the Danes with Quaade and Rasmussen (Novo Nordisk) both taking top 5’s in both ITT’s and Jimmy Sørensen (Statoil) getting a top 10 on the prologue, a stage 2nd for both Chris Anker Sørensen and Brian Matzen a stage win for former World Champion Matti Breschel and a couple of other top 10’s.
That resulted in Brian Matzen finishing 4th on the GC with Breschel and CAS taking 8th and 9th and Novo Nordisk – SAS winning the team competition. The overall GC was won by Diego Ulissi (Philips – DCM).
It was also a good month for the Nordic U23 riders with Dane Steffen Damgaard finshing 2nd in the Ronde and winning Côte Picarde, ZLM Tour and two stages in Giro delle Regioni bringing him to the top of the U23 rankings.
