Well, here we are at the final stage of this race. I am kind of glad that it will be over, as I enjoy mountains in the races at least a little. It felt like we were riding on a track or something, but I just want to get success today. The overall goal from Sunkist was a good finish, but it quickly turned into completing a sprint train successfully, and I think 4 riders is what we want in that train.
Well, here is the start of the race, with Roosevelt chatting with superman Laurence Morales before the race.
At this point in the race, I feel like I have been watching the same stage every day except the TTT. Not just because we had the same winner almost every stage, but also the break... Today, YET AGAIN, Barker from Mobistar launched an attack, the THIRD day in a row.
For the first time in a while, the peloton is balanced at the front, with riders just not focusing on the attack, which is 3:50 with 50km left.
Not much action to report during this stage. Roosevelt finished 2nd in both sprints just so he could improve a little in the standings, he had nothing to lose. The peloton knew, Specialized would catch if they wanted to win bad enough, but they weren't trying just to have Laurence Morales win another stage.
We get down to 20km left, and he has a 1:45 lead still, this is the most he had every stage of the race so far, down to 10km, and he still has a 1:15 lead. I know from experience that this could work, because Ramiro French had a 1:25 lead with 10km left at Mardi Gras, and won the stage by a single second.
You know when the leader of a race can't sprint at the end, he really is tired, and that was the case today. Specialized set up the perfect sprint train again, and Morales surged ahead, could he catch Barker from a lacking Mobistar team that could only win by a break. Sunkist on the other hand, had a 2 man sprint train, not good, but the rest of the team got stuck in the middle. Randall Fuller led out Roosevelt Grant, and Grant finished decent again!
Who will win!? In the last 5 seconds it will be.....
Barker ends the streak and lasts in the break to outlast Laurence Morales!

Here we are for the start of this race! We have Philip Brady, Aaron Lawson, and T. Griffin here today who are our best on the team, and they all competed in Mardi Gras! The best Mountain Climber in the league, Perry Moss, is here as well!
3 Men launched an attack as soon as the race started, and one of them was us! Thats right, W. Guzman of Sunkist was part of the group that quickly got out to a 3:00 lead with 140km remaining.
Here we are at the first sprint of the day, and Guzman was the worst sprinter out of the 3, but managed a 2nd place finish.
For some odd reason, the rider from Citigroup had enough of the break, and at the first sprint he gave up, and drastically slowed down to allow the peloton to catch up. It was now just these 2 riders left, they held a 7:00 lead with 95km left, things were starting look in favor of them.
The break now has a 6:30 lead with 75km left, the peloton are going to have to speed up now if they want to catch the break. They managed to drop the lead down to 4:30 with 50km left.
Over the first mountain climb we go, and I swear, Sunkist is going to have a reputation of going after the polka dot jersey, as Guzman takes the win uncontested.
Citigroup has taken charge at the front of the group to reel in the break. It is a 3:30 lead with 40km left, and a 3:00 lead with 30km left.
The other rider riding with Guzman in the break launched an attack just before the last climb, but he looked like a fool as it was too soon, Guzman passed him just before the peak, meaning he will wear the mountain jersey tomorrow. Although on the downhill he actually did break from Guzman, and the peloton knew it wasn't going to work out, the race favorites began attacking.
Bunch of attacks from everyone, here we are at the front of the group, you can see Moss from Walmart in 2nd, and Philips from Sunkist right behind.
Perry Moss, the race favorite catches the Citigroup rider just in time, and brings home the victory! Sunkist had 3rd & 4th place though, I was very happy!

Well, this short race has no brought Sunkist 2 main goals. Our first goal is for Willie Guzman to win the Mountain Jersey, which would be an excellent start to a not so decent climbers career. Our other goal was to have up and coming star Philip Brady finish with the leaders, contend for a stage win, and keep his Top 3 spot overall in the race.
To kick things off, W. Guzman enjoys the change of attire as he rocks the red jersey today (take note staff, I am liking this color for next year )
As we progress down the road a little, I notice our guys hanging around someone wearing a white jersey, then I remembered its Brady wearing the USACL traditional white jersey belonging to 2nd place. Since 2nd was wearing the points jersey, Brady wore this today being in 3rd.
5 Guys broke early in the race quickly gaining a 3:30 lead with 180km left. After some thought W. Guzman thought it was a bad idea that he didn't attack, as both of these climbs could add up for one rider to win the jersey today.
After thinking it through, he figured better to be late than never, and he attacked. He knew he wouldn't win the race overall, so wasting his energy on something he wanted would still be beneficial to him.
The roads were getting narrow, and Guzman was still trailing the break by a fair margin, he would not make it to break (at least in time for the climb).
The break passes through over 2 minutes ahead of the peloton, but in some good news, the group understood Guzman's efforts and they just followed him across the climb, allowing Willie to finish 6th in the climb for 4 points, he will still lead the classification for now.
There is now a 4:00 gap with 100km left, and Walmart is working very hard at the front to get Perry Moss into position to win the 2 day race. He can also try to be the 2nd rider this year to win at least 2 stages in a row. It is now a 3:00 lead with 80km left thanks to Walmart's efforts.
Things changed quickly in the peloton. Citigroup quickly came up front and started doing the pacing, chasing the 2:45 lead held with 50km left. They took 45 seconds off of that to make it 2:00 with 30km left.
Things were getting harder to keep track of now, we had plenty of riders that could not keep up, and at one point the peloton was 17 riders. As soon as the favorites knew that the break would get away if they didn't move now, several attacked. This includes race leader Moss, points leader Burgess, and Sunkist's Philip Brady. When everything was said and done, we had 11 riders that would come to the line in the lead as the front group settled at 5km to go.
Perry Moss was not only the top climber, but the fastest in the group, I mean we are talking not very fast sprinters here, so Perry Moss sailed to multiple stage wins in a row. Philip Brady picked up the pace and passed the riders in the group for a 5th place finish!
Willie Guzman HELD on to win the Mountain Classification, but I eventually found out it was a tie, so Sunkist will split the points.

Did you guys actually enjoy this? The I was barely getting 2 posts in between my posts which were 2 days apart. It seemed like the custom database idea wasn't working. I do almost have the db fixed if you really do want it to continue, I wouldn't mind much
