Story of the Day
i.imgur.com/IwlO9VK.png
Anthony Turgis was the most active rider in the beginning, yet it's Álvaro Cuadros who created the breakaway, all by himself. Spain's current time trial champion was reeled in with exactly 8 kilometers left until the finish.
i.imgur.com/kVEJDzg.png
Race leader Navardauskas again launched from the foot of the last climb. Of our men Intxausti was closest, with Ochoa being glued to his wheel.
i.imgur.com/FgkW2pn.png
The Lithuanian's effort didn't last long enough, which allowed Restrepo to outsprint him in the final meters. Ochoa came 3rd while Vandenborre's 10th place was a welcome sign of an improving shape ahead of la Vuelta.

Stage 4/7, 124 kms
i.imgur.com/VaPEaLF.png

Story of the Day
i.imgur.com/PqJLxwP.png
This year's shortest stage to Katowice was targeted by Jakub Kaczmarek, Roller Diagama, Antonino Parrinello and Cameron Meyer. Under a modest sun, this quartet's lead never grew bigger than little less than 5 minutes.
i.imgur.com/9XmuM5S.png
As the peloton kept closing in with each of the local laps, our image of an easy stage was demolished when Ion Izagirre suffered this nasty crash.
i.imgur.com/CYHQhUb.png
The entire team dropped back but a two-minute arrear had been caused.
i.imgur.com/D3ThwhY.png
The four in front reached the final km with a gap of 25". Beneath the red kite, Zabel was the first of the bunch to possibly threaten their chances.
i.imgur.com/Q6PrGCQ.png
They did not come fast enough as Giro stage winner Cam Meyer landed a second WT win this year. The bunch would come home in the same time.
i.imgur.com/8HgPH7N.png
The clock was implacable when our riders crossed the finish, 2'57" down. The race jury, however, bailed us out and surprisingly awarded the same time as the victor. In the end, Izagirre loses tens of places, but no time.

Vuelta a Burgos (2.HC) i.imgur.com/OXwpbMJ.png
Stage 3/5, 172.8 kms
i.imgur.com/G2PBblz.png

Story of the Day
i.imgur.com/k5EDq7Q.png
King Lok Cheung attacked right after the first climb. Insausti and Nowak bridged, later Lechuga became the last to join the break of the day. Their maximal gap was about 8 minutes, going into the ultimate 80 kilometers.
i.imgur.com/kYDItXP.png
Guerreiro set the pace on the penultimate labeled climb: it clearly was a little too much for the rest. Over the summit, he had already gained 50".
i.imgur.com/51rR4zD.png
Navardauskas bridged the gap by himself, then remained in Guerreiro's wheel. The duo was reeled in again ahead of the final 3rd category climb.
i.imgur.com/Z6uyizG.png
King Lok Cheung shook off his last companion in Ion Insausti on this hill. The pack followed at 1'38", 21km to the line near the Ojo Guareña caves.
i.imgur.com/3Ylh1JO.png
Hongkong's rare pro cyclist was caught before, yet another, uphill sprint. Movistar made an massive train for Wippert, we did the same for Ochoa.
i.imgur.com/GEgxsZl.png
As soon as the road started to rise, nobody had a real answer to Michael Valgren's kick. Thwaites came second, Diego Ochoa claimed a 6th place.

Our riders in the current top 10s probably won't make it on the truly decisive routes, yet team leaders Izagirre (Pol.) and Vandenborre/Guerreiro (Burgos) are either in the same time or only bonus seconds down. Wink

Stage 5/7, 165 kms
i.imgur.com/gx9OHme.png

Story of the Day
i.imgur.com/iZt1rSf.png
The queen stage breakaway didn't include Jona Klever. The presence of Dall'Oste, Pichon and Tomassini could put his mountain jersey in danger.
i.imgur.com/cp0J6N6.png
Those closest to him in the KoM standings luckily failed to gather enough points. Matteo Rabottini and Lachlan Morton remained in front across the first three climbs. Going into the last 60km, the two still had a 2'45" lead.
i.imgur.com/uDuWkU5.png
i.imgur.com/2vHGhe6.png
Meanwhile, the shrinking peloton was being afflicted by multiple crashes. Simon Yates, Fuglsang, König, Ghilardi, Cerezo were among the victims.
i.imgur.com/uiyEOeH.png
Morton distanced Rabottini on the final cat. 1 Glodówka climb. His lead's still over 2'30", to a bunch of less than 50 men; 20 kilometers left today.
i.imgur.com/VyN3lYe.png
Jonathan coming third on that same penultimate climb was his last trick of the day. Sebastian Henao took charge of chasing down two leaders.
i.imgur.com/BtpZMuh.png
Seba had enough left to attack on the ultimate bump after he did. König, Landa and Aru bridged as the others could not. I. Izagirre sat in the E2.
i.imgur.com/Drm7usS.png
Fabio Aru had that little more on a false flat section near the final km. He rode to a solo victory in Zakopane, Poland's major ski resort. The Italian looks set to at least podium a WT stage race for the 4th time this season.
i.imgur.com/P5xknNe.png
Sebastian took a decent second place, ahead of Landa and König. In the background, one can spot Ion Izagirre sprint to 5th, one minute down.

It's a pity he's lost time before with good post-TDF legs. Next stage will be a busy one; we have a mountain jersey to defend and Izagirre's GC position to improve.

Stage 4/5, 157 kms
i.imgur.com/GoITxp3.png

Story of the Day
i.imgur.com/B3GkasH.png
Facing the elements, mountain jersey wearer Lok Cheung won the day's only sprint. He dragged along Miguel Mínguez and Jonathan Castroviejo. The peloton took it easy because of a crash that involved Navardauskas.
i.imgur.com/az1TjEc.png
The three were caught, before the last out of two local laps. Fog and rain persisted, yet the pace of the peloton did go up in the last 20 kilometers.
i.imgur.com/JUBp7mW.png
Our team handled the pace well as we managed to stay near the front. It didn't get us anything, but we safely concluded a hard day in the saddle.
i.imgur.com/e1efeZ5.png

Stage 6/7, 191.5 kms
i.imgur.com/KsxiclW.png

Story of the Day
i.imgur.com/MNEHoqO.png
A queen stage stuffed with climbs demands for KoM jersey contenders to attack. Thus so did Jonathan, right after the gunshot. This gave him the edge over three chasers (see background) on the first two cat. 1 climbs.
i.imgur.com/w1DbvV7.png
Rabottini, Morton, Saint-Martin bridged but they paid for these efforts on most of the hills. Jonathan's gap in the KoM standings grew comforting.
i.imgur.com/fu2ll6V.png
The sun exited as Klever, Morton were the strongest in once more foggy conditions. Entering the ultimate 38 km lap, the bunch followed at 2'35".
i.imgur.com/lWmC9rN.png
Morton won the next mountain sprint, then got hit by a counter over the top. Jonathan had 21kms left to cover, with a time advantage of only 1'.
i.imgur.com/jzEXiHE.png
The Ecuadorian's ship stranded on the next climb, after which I.Izagirre played his card. His move didn't cause any separation in the main group.
i.imgur.com/Rf2sdsZ.png
After several accelerations, the uphill finish sector was too much for Ion. He lost 40" to the first group, where Simon Yates beat Lawson Craddock.
