What isn't working? Shock

Also, I may need a new reporter for Norway if there's no 2013 route for PCM11.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

The race: it still has only 22 teams starting, despite changing the rules.

Race report

After a quiet start Sandy Casar (FDJ) places the first attack of the day.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1049_zpscef0d4e7.jpg

Paul Voss (TNE), Daniele Pietropolli (LAM) and Brice Feillu (SOJ) make the jump from the pack to Casar.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1057_zps4f34bc3a.jpg

The 4 leaders soon get a lead of over a minute.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1058_zps0703221f.jpg

Sky doesn't seem to care much about the increasing lead.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1059_zpsf7845e44.jpg

By the time we reach sprint 1, won by Pietropolli, the lead has increased to 6 minutes already!
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1060_zpse2729e97.jpg

With 116kms to go and a lead of over 8 minutes for the break Garmin-Sharp decides to up the pace in the pack.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1061_zps6e41a16b.jpg

By the time the break reaches the foot of the Côte de Chaumont, 100kms from the line, the lead has decreased to 7min11.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1062_zps46d87cb0.jpg

At the summit it's Pietropolli who outsprints Voss and Feillu. Casar seems to be a bit further behind.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1063_zps223c747b.jpg

In the pack Fabian Cancellara (RNT) attacks for the final remaining point. His ambition seems clear: winning the mountain classification.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1064_zpse8d4e61c.jpg

The hill causes a split in the pack. Main rider caught behind seems Sergio Henao (SKY)
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1065_zps974c84a3.jpg

A bit later on the group rejoins with the pack.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1066_zps9b5f3d20.jpg

With 60kms to go and a lead of just over 4 minutes the break reaches the second sprint of the day, with Voss outsprinting Pietropolli.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1067_zpsedc79e01.jpg

With ~30kms to go the break crosses the finish for the penultimate time. The lead is 2min58. It could get very close!
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1068_zpscd1807ed.jpg

With 25kms to go the attacks in the pack start. Dani Moreno (Katusha) kicks off.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1069_zps79f43eb7.jpg

This is the sign for Europcar, Sky and Saxo to seriously increase the pace.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1070_zps1e151937.jpg

With 20kms to go the break only has 1min20 left. It seems like the adventure could end soon.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1071_zps318e0ff6.jpg

With 19kms to go Ryder Hesjedal (GRS) attacks. He immediately jumps to Moreno's wheel.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1072_zps65a1c089.jpg

Less than a kilometer later they get reeled in, together with Feillu, who was dropped from the break.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1073_zps6bb05685.jpg

Pietropolli wins the final mountain sprint, still in front of the pack. While Casar seems dropped, it seems like the 2 leaders still stand a chance due to their lead of 1min25.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1074_zps90989525.jpg

In the pack Alberto Contador (TST) places an attack, again with Hesjedal. Feillu is miraculously hanging on to these two riders.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1075_zps3c8bbb7c.jpg

In the break it's Voss who now jumps away from Pietropolli.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1076_zps17b5d1f7.jpg

With 10kms to go Voss has made perfect use of the chaos behind him. His lead is 1min46!
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1077_zpsf0cfda42.jpg

In the pack Pietropolli is reeled in, together with Casar, Contador, Feillu and Hesjedal.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1078_zpsc32a80f4.jpg

The climb and downhill have caused many riders to drop. No favourites are caught behind though.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1079_zps122d4d04.jpg

With 8kms to go something happens in the pack: Enrico Gasparotto (AST) attacks!
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1080_zps9c0200d9.jpg

Voss doesn't care about that though. With 5kms to go he still has over a minute to Gasparotto and even more to the pack.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1081_zpsc7cd59d2.jpg

In the pack, 3 riders manage to catch Gasparotto. Cancellara has managed to jump across together with Igor Antón (EUS) and Giampaolo Caruso (KAT).
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1082_zps39a51798.jpg

However, they are reeled in with 3kms to go.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1083_zps3feb020d.jpg

In front, Voss reaches the banner.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1084_zpsfb30a153.jpg

At the line
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1085_zps20f29459.jpg
he takes his well-deserved victory!

While the German crosses the line, the sprint in the pack is going on. Cancellara and Moreno seem to have taken a lead.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1086_zpse8243420.jpg

Hesjedal however flies by
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1087_zpsec8c4f67.jpg

to make it a second place.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1088_zps560cebcb.jpg
Martens completes the podium, while Moreno and Meersman come 4th and 5th.

Don't take that sprint too much as a real sprint. Pires came 10th

BRUNO PIRES 10th in a sprint Banana:lol::lol::lol:

EDIT: 9th in the sprint of the group actually Pfft Maybe I should renew his contract next year on the basis that he'll be Bennati's lead-out Grin

Now I get why my riders are never in the early breakaway. They might get too close to Sagan in points. Smile

Nice to see Fabian was active today, but at the same time very confusing. He must have lost a bet to someone to be going for the KOM jersey! Pfft He should be saving himself for the flat TT.

Dermot would like to congratulate his team mate on a great victory. It's been a long time since NetApp's first win and that will no doubt make Mr Luttenberger happy after recent disasters.

22nd two days in a row. I sense Tejay would struggle to win a sprint against a disabled goldfish. Still best team though. Cool

Welcome to, what is to many, the biggest stage race in Germany! Despite this only 16 teams turn up to the race, this total excludes Tirol, who will be acting as the control team, but does include several continental teams who can't have any hopes of anything but breakaway success.

The Route:

Four flat stages, some more flat than others, and one TT comprises the route for this tour. With many intermediate sprint points on the four road stages, expect them to be hotly contested.

Favourites for stage wins:

www.be-celt.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/greipel-2.jpg

Given the terrain on stages 1,2,3 & 5 Andrei Greipel would be a favourite if the worlds elite were racing here. As it is he is, by far, the stand out sprinter present and supported by the likes of Bak and Sieberg in his home country it is possible he may end up with four stage wins to his name.

However, Alexander Kristoff and Gerald Ciolek cannot be counted out, especially if Greipel is not anywhere his usual self.

Khamse Kamphan, Matthew Brammeier or perhaps Paul Voss, riding for a German team and in form after winning a stage at Romandie, are three riders we may see putting in late attacks, but it looks likes Greipel will have a lot of success here.

Favourites for the GC:

With each rider limited to 60 race days few would have expected Sky to send one of their leaders, Bradley Wiggins, to Germany but they have and it may pay off with the overall win. Wiggo is the stand out man for the deciding GC stage (stage 4) with the flat TT really suiting him. If he is anywhere near top form the GC should be his, barring being dropped or a unexpected and unlikely breakaway succeeding at some point during the race.

However, the GC is no cake walk for the Brit. Po-ding Kim will look to push the Brit in the TT and is the nearest challenger when it comes to racing against the clock.

We can also expect to see De Vries (Champion), Shafiq (MTN), Birtles (Cofidis) there or thereabouts as they are some of the stand out TT men in this smallish field.

The race is a small one, but a good one, and we hope you will enjoy our coverage which starts tomorrow, Auf Wiedersehen.

Woah. Go home calendar, you're drunk Pfft

Nah, great to see this start, and Po-Ding is definitely a big contender here.

Voss, incredible!! Brave, gutsy and smart. A fantastic ride by him. Banana Banana Banana

Well, I have a goal of stage in Bayern Rundfahrt, however we lack sprinters and the only decent TT'st is Barta. Wiggins, Po and Greipel... argh. Frown

Dermot would like to congratulate his team mate on a great victory. It's been a long time since NetApp's first win and that will no doubt make Mr Luttenberger happy after recent disasters.

What, disasters? NetApp may have failed the Turkey goal, but 2 out of 3 so far is quite decent for our team I'd like to think. The late season part will be even more sucessfull then, I promise. Wink

Funny that you put everything in Germany colours, even though irl Bavarians don't really consider theirselves as Germans. You should have used blue and white. Pfft
On a more serious note I am hoping for a stage win to complete our countered goal, but against Greipel it will be very tough for Kristoff..

Yeah, Josef is offended! Pfft

Anyway, lovely ride by Ryder there in Switzerland, though sadly it didn't really pay off. In great form ahead of the Giro though. Smile
