A remarkable scene near the summit of the day's opening climb. The top three on general classification - Alberto Contador, Alejandro Valverde and Chris Froome - have broken away from the main peloton and have set off in pursuit of the front group.
Adding to that:
That leading group has reportedly swelled to 12 riders again on the climb, with Alessandro De Marchi and Wouter Poels among those to make it across. They have 14 seconds in hand on Contador, Valverde and Froome, while Joaquim Rodriguez is still in the main peloton, 26 seconds behind.

Yeah, probably only stage they should have shown from start to finish since its a proper, real mountain stage with multiple climbs and some full racing was to expected. But at least we have live ticker.

Maybe the haters can finally pull back a little when they say that Martin is nothing but a puncher. He has solidified today that he is easily the 6th best climber in this race. Really liking the good, consistent riding by him, even after crashing.
Martin is a good rider and is doing a excellent job at this race but the way you constantly bang on about him is as bad as some other forum members obsession with Keldermann
As bad? I think it's even worse .
Thing is, when Kelderman is doing well, nothing can triumph you and Jesley. And you know it.
But I agree with Strydz. I think it is a bad tendency only commenting on your favourite rider. |

Alright, couldn't resist to check out the breakaway: Kennaugh is in there. I hope he's allowed to go for stage win and won't be used for tactical games. Great dude, Österreich-Rundfahrt Champion.

Thing is with Kennaugh, he climbed like a beast in the Tour, but for some reason he isn't doing that this Vuelta at all. Sky generally use him like Knees on the bottom of climbs, but maybe he can find himself here, who knows. |

Will be interesting if Poels and Kennaugh will work together at later points of the stage

It was more of a general comment of the forum that some people more or less only comment on their favourite rider/team and neglect everything else. I just agreed with Strydz' point which I think is a fair assessment. |

Drooped by Katusha who are setting fierce pace. Uran fades in 2nd and 3rd week of a GT and that too 2nd GT of the year he is worse. We saw it previous 2 years a Sky. |

Of the 5 mountain stages so far 3 won by breakaway. I think today we might see main contenders fight it out |

He's sick. It's a difference between fading and being sick. |

Trek have a been poor this Vuelta considering they won it last year. Arredondo retired. Zubeldia clearly not at his best. No other climbers of note. |
