Race report

On the first, uncategorised, climb of the day, nobody tries to attack. Orica-GreenEdge immediately tries to take control of the pack.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1022_zps8e25d34b.jpg

On the flat roads we get our first attack. Anthony Delaplace (Sojasun) places an attack.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1023_zps2089ccc9.jpg

Bert-Jan Lindeman (Vacansoleil) and Sébastien Reichenbach make the jump across.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1024_zps7b8185ec.jpg

The pack however reels this group in.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1025_zps06454fd4.jpg

It takes a little while, but we now get new attacks. Lindeman is off again, this time Anton Vorobyev (Katusha) comes with him.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1026_zps25f4edbf.jpg

Hugo Houle (AG2R), Jesse Sergent (Radioshack) and Tom-Jelte Slagter (Belkin) make the jump.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1027_zps74ec1685.jpg

At the top of the Châtelet-Saint-Denis the break has shattered. Slagter reaches the top as first, then comes Houle, Lindeman is 3rd. Vorobyev and Sergent had to drop back to the pack.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1028_zps0ff28213.jpg

So, we can present you the break of the day: Bert-Jan Lindeman, Hugo Houle and Tom-Jelte Slagter.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1029_zps888aaa7f.jpg

The first crash of the day is now. Drago di Silvestro (Europcar) picks up his bike and continues.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1030_zpsb5a5282d.jpg

At the second categorized climb of the day Slagter dominates the sprint. Houle comes 2nd once again.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1031_zpsaa2ebe77.jpg

In the pack Fabian Cancellara (Radioshack) felt uncomfortable. Therefore he decides to attack.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1032_zps24197c84.jpg

With 77kms to go Spartacus catches up. 2min57 is the lead for the 4 leaders.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1033_zps1081445f.jpg

The intermediate sprint is won by Cancellara. He didn't seem to have much difficulty. 3min05 is the gap, not much more than that it won't be today.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1034_zps1cc62d82.jpg

On the final climb of the day Sky starts to take the lead in the pack.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1035_zps34d00e5a.jpg

While we're at the climb it starts to rain. This could cause some danger on the downhill.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1036_zps4915201b.jpg

On the climb Cancellara also proves to be stronger. Slagter, due to the earlier climbs, takes the pink jersey though. Houle and Lindeman are dropped.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1037_zps404c3116.jpg

On the downhill it has stopped raining. Some luck for the riders that is.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1038_zps0c523d30.jpg

The final intermediate sprint is also for Cancellara, who seems to have dropped Slagter. Cancellara still has a lead of 1min52 here, with 24kms to go. That will be a task for the pack to make up.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1039_zpsc7609bf8.jpg

For some reason though Cancellara doesn't pace anymore, nor does Slagter. The pack, now lead by Omega Pharma, is coming closer and closer.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1040_zps78e9780f.jpg

With 20kms to go both are reeled in.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1041_zps449516d3.jpg

With 10kms to go nothing has happened. A sprint seems inevitable.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1042_zpsbfd3117d.jpg

With 5kms to go the sprint trains set up:
Meier (OGE)

Vanendert (LTB)Albasini (OGE)
Henderson (LTB)Dowsett (MOV)Howard (OGE)

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1044_zps79ac4a0d.jpg

With 3kms to go the situation has changed though. Lotto is taking over the lead.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1045_zps8204b550.jpg
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1046_zps57701fdc.jpg

One kilometer further hell breaks loose when the lead-outs start.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1047_zps640676ba.jpg

With 1.5kms to go Henderson drops his sprinter, leaving us with the following situation:
Henderson (LTB)
Petacchi (OPQ)
Albasini (OGE)
Dehaes (LTB)Castroviejo (MOV)
Simon (SOJ)
Martens (BEL)
Vanendert (LTB)Rojas (MOV)
Trentin (OPQ)Meersman (OPQ)
Alinejad (RSH)Howard (OGE)Mezgec (ARG)

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1050_zpsbcf30a73.jpg

Under the banner some swings have been made, and Alinejad and Roux come forward.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1051_zpsf233d25b.jpg

With 500 meters to go the following situation occurs:
Henderson (LTB)
Albasini (OGE)Petacchi (OPQ)
Dehaes (LTB)
Castroviejo (MOV)Alinejad (RSH)

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1052_zps3e9e779d.jpg
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1053_zpsd6c6b31c.jpg
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1054_zps30e4c1fe.jpg

At the finish
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1055_zps0ba84e68.jpg
Henderson hangs on for victory! Dehaes makes it a 1-2 for Lotto, while Albasini, Alinejad and Petacchi complete the top-5.

In the back a big shock. Many riders drop off in the final meters. Pinot and Chernetskiy miss out here and lose time.

Nice report, that final sprint layout as well haha.

Mezgec 6th, could of asked for a bit maybe

Oh crap just realised all my other riders finished behind the split, useless idiots!

Should've sent a sprinter here, ah well, Slagter did good Pfft

Cool report, the sprint positions were definitely interesting!

Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Serpa/Lampre still in the top twenty despite a poor day for the team Frown

Still best team Cool. Shame the game doesn't class Wyss as a sprinter but never mind.

Frank lost a bit of time so hopefully he's gonna go full retard on the climbs now.

Just noticed an issue. This is meant to be the highlight of this season section for Firmansyah Sinaga, but he isn't here. I was wondering what the reason could be, did I make a mistake?

Stromeon
Great report - I really like the sprint positions table thing you use - it really helps to give a clear view of the situation and should be used more often (yes that's a hint to you other reporters Pfft)

Yeah you did, you posted as Pietor Furan,in the Sojasun thread, who is riding at Caja Rujal, so I lost track of him in my startlists. Best make a new post, just so we don't repeat that mistake Smile

Great, only 2 riders in the first group. At least Basso is in there. Rolling Eyes

No Sagan = no points Pfft

Ah forgot to notice the fact that Rogers was shite as usual lost more time after a shocking prologue.

Our team is basically Contador, Bennati and McDermott the three of them have over two thirds of our points so far. Rolling Eyes

Is it a bad thing that as things currently stand the minimum number of riders I'm going to release at the end of the season is 12?

Wow, what a beating for NetApp once again. Of course every rider is in the second half of the peloton. The usual luck. Frown

Nice report there Selwink, what an effort for a sprint finish. Shock
