*Universe implodes*
It's going to take some getting used to with Euskaltel's new policy... I'd be interested to see if they rebrand the whole team to reflect the shift? |

Strangely I am the same. As long as they still 'feel' like Euskaltel then I'll be happy.

While a bit of a surprise
it wasnt going to be too long before Euskatel started signing non-basque riders
the team has been struggling (a bit) for sponsorship for a while
and the best way is to start getting other riders

Cunego. Gilbert. Cavendish. Hagen. Wiggins.
All riders they made offers to.
EDIT: I can't recall the exact numbers from the recently released accounts but I believe it's 2.7Million they spent on transfers the past year alone. That's a Pro Conti team's budget just on signing fees.
and what about BMC or RSNT or Katusha or now SaxoBank?
Why, did someone here make the boast that those teams don't try to sign top riders?
no, just that sky arnt the only ones who try to get all the big riders
sky; Cavs (leaving), wiggins ermm flecha? Froome wasnt, thomas wasnt, swift wasnt, uran wasnt etc.
BMC; ballan, gilbert, evans, hushovd
rsnt; schleckx2, cancellara
Saxobank; contador, kreuziger
Astana; nibali
its not just sky was my point
The problem is, it's irrelevant because that's not what was being discussed. spilak argued that Sky don't sign big name riders (as if not signing big name riders is somehow a good thing, but to each his own). I listed the ones they tried to sign. What other teams do is irrelevant to the discussion.

Cavendish wanted to go their, otherwise he would have signed with Quick-Step, won 8 TdF stages with full team support and a way bigger paycheck.
Wiggins wanted to go there, he begged Vaughters to let him go.
Hagen wanted out of the team HTC (because of Cavendish, a bit ironic now but also because of Greipel)
Gilbert signed for way more money with BMC and Cunego is still riding with the same team he joined in 2002 where he can do whatever he wants to do.
Gilbert signing for more money is incorrect, he said the Sky offer dwarfed the others he got. What the other guys want to do is irrelevant to the point. You said Sky don't try to sign big name riders. I listed quite a few they did. What the riders want doesn't even begin to be relevant to your point

And Bruyneel keeps signing guys who are well past it. (With some exceptions of course)

@issoisso
my point was relevent
i want argueing Spilak's point
i was argueing the point that sky sign all the good riders
i proved that other teams signed more 'big' riders than sky
that was my point, not that sky dont sign big riders

Strangely I am the same. As long as they still 'feel' like Euskaltel then I'll be happy.
Yeah, orange kits, aggressive racing and an innate hability to crash. Bleeding Carrots FTW.

Yeah, they win 1 stage/race each moon cycle. They could win everything, because the Basque people are direct descendants of Chuck Norris, but they don't for the sport's sake.

Danny Pate begs to differ.

I'd love to hear the phonecall from his agent.
"Jure I got you an offer from Euskaltel"
"Matjaz i keep telling you not to call me when you're drunk"

And this is an English webpage about it:
https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/devol...ack-nissan
Both Cofidis and Europcar are also reported to have expressed interest in signing Devolder, but it is the Belgian’s preference is understood to be a switch to RadioShack.
What, 3 teams interested in signing Devolder, who did absolutely NOTHING in the last 2 years?
According to Sporza, Devolder will get a performance based contract. Devolder ... performance ...
Well, hopefully he WILL perform if he gets reunited with Demol.. |
