Good news: School holidays start on Wednesday and thus coincide perfectly with the Giro.

Stage 7

Reguigui is the day's first attacker. He is joined by Morajko, Klemme, Frohlinger and Finetto.

Morajko is on a roll as he wins both Intermediate Sprints and the single Categorised Climb.

The break is still ahead with 4km left, it seems they will have to be swamped up in the sprint if there's a peloton win.

While the rest of his companions have almost been caught, Finetto hangs on for dear life. He has a small lead under the flamme rouge, which may just be enough.

And he takes a lovely win! Chaos behind with no real organisation, and it looks like it's between Bennati and Modolo for 2nd.

And the latter is blocked by McDermott, so Bennati takes another great result and closes in even more on the sprinters' jersey, which is extremely hot at the moment, with 3 Italians within 5 points of eachother
.

2Robert GesinkBelkin Pro Cycling Team+ 43
3Pierre RollandTeam Europcar+ 57
4Thomas PeetersTeam Europcar+ 1'05
5Daniel NavarroCofidis, Solutions Crédits+ 1'23

The GC stays the same and is all but wrapped up, with just one flat stage to go.

Points

1Carlo CalzoneAndroni Giocattoli - Venezuela681
2Sacha ModoloBardiani Valvole - CSF Inox777
3Daniele BennatiTeam Saxo - Tinkoff2076
4Bryan CoquardTeam Europcar1671

One of the most interesting fights I've ever seen in professional Cycling. After some early form, Calzone holds it, while Bennati is on a late revival mission. Modolo has been at the front the whole time and is rewarded, despite no stage wins. Coquard is there, but will need a small miracle to win the contest, while it's so close that if any of the Top 3 win the next stage the worst they can do is tie for 1st. If Coquard wins the next stage and Calzone finishes in the Top 4, it'll be enough for him, no matter what.

NetApp needs some major guts for the last stage. Attack attack!

No reason for Calzone to be in any kind worries. Excitement will only further the hype surrounding his image. Cool

Ah Bennati's such a boss Grin If anyone had told me at the start of the season he would be outscoring Kreuziger, Rogers and Majka combined at this point in the season I would have laughed at them, but here we are

Hmm... we'll see how they (apart from Rogers) fare in the Giro first before making any decisions Pfft

Great to see Przemyslaw Niemiec hold on to the GC Lead Smile

Yes I when I reported Catalunya Bennati was a beast, been a top performer in this season. He won't beat the top 3 but for picking up wins here and there he is great

Bennati is just there in the right races, where the top sprinters don't show up. Good management so far, but with 3 GT's coming, the question is if Saxo can work around the fact that they only have 1 quality sprinter.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Yes good management played a big part. If Saxo were to let him go though im sure a lot of teams would be in, including the CT teams

How long to AToC startlist?

I may do a preview of parcour tonight

Grin

Don't need a sprinter when you've got leaders like ours Cool

Bennati is doing Giro, Tour is all-out for the win, and Vuelta has the odds and ends of the squad Pfft

Indeed, poor Saxo having to manage with only one top sprinter. How do they cope?

By not having Evans in our squad? Pfft

Also, Takashi Miyazawa is offended that all of you say we have only one top sprinter.

California and the others will go out tomorrow, when Admirschleck finishes his planning. A preview would be nice yes, since it's pretty much the biggest CT stage race.

The Amgen Tour of California will seen see some of the best riders in world take on arguably the best race in continental racing. The they will be faced with 4 flat stages, 2 hilly stages, a time trial and most importantly for the general classification, a mountain stage with an uphill finish. The general classification battle is mostly to be fought during stages 6 and 7 while the sprint on stage 8 into Santa Rosa will see a points jersey winner named. It will prove to be an exciting race and be sure to check back for the start list and rider previews!
