Congrats Guave, yet another new team having checked that "first win" task
And congrats to Aidan on a dominant performance by Tibopino. He was in control all the way long, with no-one being able to really challenge him. Let's see if Ranaweera just didn't have the legs here, or if this will be the pattern all season long. Keinath in 2nd was really strong, another reason why Philips should easily promote
Thanks for the reports, jph, and congrats again to all who were successful in South America - see you tomorrow in Australia
Congratz Bjartne and Guave for the stage wins and congratz to Aidan for winning the GC! My riders had a hard day today and tried to make the losses as small as possible, but even though Petrovski just got out of the top-10 he managed to keep the KoM-jersey until the end, so that's of course a first for us, making me a happy man. Marquez seemed to have a hard time the more the race neared the end, but somehow managed to come back into the top-5 even though being dropped quite easily and losing quite a lot of time. Not ideal, but it's something. If I counted right we end the race with well over 100 points, which is more then we could have hoped for
Thank you jph, looking forward to your next time in C2/C2HC
Not quite the GC result we were looking for but had a lot of fun knocking out our C2 race days for the season. Capping it off by putting half of our team in the breakaway and nabbing a third place by Jhonatan Narvaez was quite entertaining.
Congrats to Aidan on the win and thanks jph for the reports!
Congrats to Aidan, Pinot showed his strength and never faltered. Congrats to Guave as well for the win today!
As for us, it was a solid end to this race after a great stage 9. Warbasse ultimately did his job here well, and we have one goal complete for 2020, only two races in. That feels really good after a tough few years for our team. Larry was consistent and attentive, and that's really all I could ask for.
Eg likewise did pretty well here. I got worried when he missed those first splits, but 12th place is a good result for him in this field. He got caught behind several times this race, but usually came back. If Ranaweera didn't exist we'd be seeing him in white a lot this year I reckon.
I'm a bit more disappointed in Fabbro, who I figured would be Warbasse's right hand man here or even co-leader. Already last year unmaxed he was doing quite well in PCT races for his stats, but here he under-performed almost every day. Especially strange to see Eg and other pure climbers doing better than him in the hills. A slightly better performance might have netted us the team classification. Still, plenty of racing to go this year, and hopefully he finds it's legs. It's rare he'll be our main leader anyway.
Final verdict on Bertilsson was a bit of a wash I guess. Would having him as a leadout for AKA in another stage race have been more productive than the points from his one stage win and 4th place here? Maybe, maybe not. Impossible to tell with sprints, so at least he came away with something.
Thank you so much jph for both the great reports and the consistent speed at which they came through!
RIP Exxon Duke, David Veilleux, Double Feature, and Monster Energy
Crazy, the third time Ndayisenga is the first non breakaway rider over the line. Super happy with his performances here, much better than I had anticipated. Hadi with a Top 20 GC is really solid as well. And cool to see a sign of life from Redecker on this final stage, he'll have a few more stages and classics like this on his schedule, so that is encouraging.
Redecker's performances in the sprints were one of two disappointing things, the other is the performance of Mai. Completely below expectations in the mountains and no breakaway action in the latter stages either.
In total, super enjoyable first stage race for us. And great to see so many other rookie managers succeed here as well. Thanks for the nice reports jph, and I also really enjoyed the pace with two reports per day.
Sindre Skjostad Lunke in 6th is a nice performance from him, although it doesn't look super promising for some of our goals later in the year. Especially with Magnus Cort Nielsen only managing 8th. Neither rider were able to follow the critical moves and suffered as a result, hopefully we'll see better from them on other days, otherwise this season will be more difficult than expected. Otherwise Bjorn Tore Hoem (15th) and Georg Zimmermann ( 4th) also had good showings. Congrats to the various winners, Pinot looks like he will dominate for certain.
Thanks for the reports and congrats to Aidan on the win.
Kuss final 13th right where he fit in the preview. His first race as leader and the first time we have a top 20 climber. So positives there and we have a few years to figure how to do better. Also agree with BBl that it was a bit strange that he thrived on the hilly stage and struggled on some of the mountain stages.
Fantastic job by Keinath! We came in looking for a Top 5, so 2nd is a great result. Only really lost time to Pinot on the first hill stage and the MTT, and stuck around the former like a leech everywhere else. VdS did ok on the flat, nothing special. Was hoping for some more points from the others, but only Inkelaar got something from the U25s.
Congrats on the win Aidan and also Guave for the first ever stage win! New teams doing well for themselves already this season. Thanks for the reports jph
Pinot definitely looked a class above Ranaweera here, and it was disappointing for us to see Keinath beat him too, hopefully that isn't a sign of things to come for the season to come and Ranaweera can find some more form in future races.
