That's a very good deal for them to sign the biggest german GT prospect by far but I hope he progresses faster than Buchmann or Konrad. Those guys took ages until at least Buchmann became a serious GC contender, Konrad is still not there. Yates brothers and Bernal have been much faster in that regard.
Hmm, I just think they're in different leagues altogether. Simon and Bernal will win more GT's for sure, I don't see how Buchmann will ever win one. He reminds me a bit of Jurgen Van den Broeck. Great GT rider, but can only follow the best, not defeat them. A podium is possible, but I don't see him win a GT.
Totally agree with Ollfardh here. That said, his consistency is great and could lead to a surprise win at one time.
Others might miss out on a GT, have a bad form etc.
Obviously needs lots of luck for this but it`s not impossible.
As long as BORA and Buchmann aren't afraid to target the Giro or Vuelta for a possible Grand Tour victory then anything is possible really (ala Hesjedal). Buchmann was far closer to the winner in this year's Tour de France than Jurgen Van den Broeck ever was even during the two years he achieved third (after doping bans moved him up) and fourth in the GC at the TdF. Also partly VdB's fault for being so focused on Le Tour, meaning he never really gave the Giro or Vuelta a proper crack when he was near his best. A lot of times the Vuelta was just an afterthought.
Buchmann is still very young and this is just his 3rd year on a WT team. He still has plenty of time to improve. Bernal seems to be quite the rare talent - like Sagan if you will. The Yates brothers are very inconsistent and it's tougher to compare them imo.
I get the comparison with Van den Broeck, but Buchmann seems to be much more fearless and also better at reading the race. Saw him both in Itzulia and Romandie this year where he launched some pretty wrecking attacks. Objectively he already has more victories to his name than Van den Broeck had at the end of his career
Well, not gonna say they're equal, Buchmann is definitely better, but they are very similar riders in my opinion. And I do feel they'll end up with the same number of GT wins at the end of their career. Bernal isn't going anywhere and Evenepoel is only 2 years away from his first GT win
