Dumoulin 10th on such a climb. Amazing. But I hope he still remaisn focussed on ITT. He's world class at 1 thing. Don't ruin it by going to be a sub-top stage racer.
Gesink again bad, 16th in a field full of B/C climbers. Time to shift focus in his career to a luxury helper or stage hunter. GC Gesink is dead, he had time enough, the Gesink before broken leg is never coming back.
that is terrible and sad story. I remember when he was same level at Nibbles...new promising Gt riders.
I have my own saga..Taaramäe . I am sure he never reaches 2011 promising level. Main fault for that go's for stupid french team..who made bad decision after one and another. After mono virus ..it took to long to diagnose it..after fact..they keep him racing. That caused problems one after another..so he was out 2,5 years after that. Operation opened he's throat again.
Now he is capable to follow aces just once inside GT..maybe he can build it up again. I have serous doubt about that..as gesink. Maybe some stage wins there and there. |

Hopefully that is what Dumoulin decides to do, he will only get stronger in his TT and with Cancellara past his best, Wiggins doing other things it's Dumoulin and Martin. He has plenty of time to develop into a 1 week stage racer so lets hope he is getting good advice and sticks to what he is so good at.
It wasn't just Gesinks broken leg but clearly a personal life which has been far from ideal, I have always looked at him as a stage hunter/hilly classics rider, he still has time to be that rider if he can get his head around it.

Unfortunately due to the crappy profiles I don't have a clue whether they're flat or hilly, I think the next two are pretty flat and then the one before the TT is hilly, but I'm not sure. The TT is fairly hilly as well, so Spilak and maybe even Pozzo are still in with a decent chance though they'd need to gain some more time on one of the remaining road stages.
Yes the profiles are shocking! But looking at other forums profiles for the stages ahead there is still time for riders to gain time on the stronger TT riders, Pinot hasn't missed a beat so far in this race so if he can pinch a few seconds here and there he can win. Thomas is obviously still the favourite and if Dumoulin didn't go to deep today so he falls of the pace he can still win.

I agree. He should look at Tony as an example. He also showed GC promise early in his career but instead he ditched it to master the TT and it was a good move. It's better to be world class at 1 thing than good at everything and eventually fall short when it matters because a specialist beats you (example: 2agan ) |

@ Rettenbachferner: Done the climb by car, and even that was exhausting.... It was on my bucketlist, but after watching this stage, I'll doubt if I'll ever be capable of reaching the summit (hey, I'm 36, decline has started already).
@ Gesink: Even though his GC-days are over, he gets my deepest respect. I've read the full story why he left the Vuelta last year, and all I can say as a husband and father, that he did the right thing. Nothing is more important than your family!

Cheer up cio, it's not like he's another one of these Skybot miraculous transformation guys.....
Yeah, he just became the GT contender from being a bad classics rider and track guy...

I am pretty sure that Sagan is making bigger marks on the world of cycling then Dumoulin can ever dream of, even if he would become triple ITT world champion.

Yeah, his palmares is really Rojas-like. C'mon, he is at least 2 places better in every race.

Question is if having 50+ pro wins being 25 years old qualifies for "being a looser".

I'm fitter than I've ever been at 38 thank you very much! This has nothing to do with my complete lack of application and fitness pre mid 30's...upwards curve to 60. Talking of which a 60 year old flew past me the other day up Luz Ardiden and subsequently put a couple of minutes into me the next day up the Tourmalet so there you go, definitive proof! |

You don't know how fast that 60-year-old was going when he was under 35
