And now it has been confirmed by the team:
Press release:
Following the rumors and speculations published by many Danish media first and then by international cycling media later last night, Tinkoff Saxo would like to clarify that Bjarne Riis is not being actively involved in the team’s activities since last Sunday. However, he was not suspended of his active role because of lack of results nor for financial issues. The team management has full confidence in the technical and performance team, in all the riders and staff members and is currently working to establish the best way forward in the racing season. No decisions have been taken and any formal and final decision on any team member – if taken – shall be communicated at the appropriate time. Until then there will be no further comments on this matter.
So he has been suspended, but for no real reason?
Alt. the Danish doping report, but I seriously doubt Oleg would care enough about that to take preventive measures.
Without Riis I see this team falling apart within 1-2 seasons due to chaotic management, bad atmosphere and some real difficulties to convince anyone to sign for them.
Tinkoffs attitude also makes me think that it will be a prime candidate for developing an organized doping program with no one to stand up agains the mad Russian wanting results for any prize all year long.
Certainly leaves room for CULT to develop even further when it comes to attracting the best Danish riders as well as a bigger Danish based sponsor budget.

I copy my point here..in this subject I am 100% at Riis side. I hated Tinkoff at the moment when he entered back to cycling..and yes he had so many fans who did not see how this man will end it. It is just a start boys.
That I have talking few years from now. Oleg is not nice or funny guy..
+ Riis has been one of the top team managers ..(despite dirty past)
+ Oleg will not get any result with pressure..it makes thing worst. Example how things should work..Dagenkolb had no win at Paris-Nice. He told that team was not worried and did not show any pressure sign. That was part of the sunday's result eather.
+ Two weeks ago I was wondering after Tinkoff result talk..when Riis will realise that Tinkoff money is not worth it. Well Oleg did it himself clear enough.
At the end. My prediction is still that Tinkoff hugh fan mass will be gone after few years. This man will fuck up this. He can't help..that is what he is.
PS that Saxo team has been Riis lifework |

How do you have any support for Riis? He has dodged far to many bullets and should of been booted from cycling long ago, he was a dirty rider and likewise a dirty team owner/manager, Tinkoff is a fool and I'll be happy to see him fall apart but sympathy for Riis is misguided at best.

You think that Tinkoff is better option for Saxo team? This man wants win..period. Not training..taking max of riders..wins. Nothing more.
Ok Riis should be off..how you can sleep when Lefevere is still team manager, also Vinokurov..etc..etc. |

As I said i'll be happy to see Tinkoff fall apart, love to see Lefevere and his magician Ibarguren gone and the same goes for Rihs, Ochowicz, Martinelli, Vinokourov and so on

It's not exactly a good 'defense' to say that Riis should stay, just because there's other team managers who's just as bad as him.
Facts are that Riis doped as a rider, he juiced-up his riders as a team manager using the services of Fuentes, Cecchini and other famous doping doctors, and his current star rider is an ex-doper.
Riis abandoning cycling ... would that really be such a bad thing? |

Not necessarily. Tinkov with noone that dares speak against him could be though...

No, it isn't. Tinkov beeing in cycling is. I'm sure he'll dope up his riders more than Riis to be able to win. |

Tinkov is already there, though. Already pressuring the riders with crazy e-mails a la Vinokourov.
Riis out = 1 down, many more to go, including Tinkov. |

you have a point if I am making paralel after dance we made at Bruyneel end. They are managers from same era.
Still Tinkoff and Bruyneel are more cyclist user type managers for me. Riis has done lot of work to develop some riders ..and especially for danish cycling I think it has been nice boost. |

I agree that Riis has to go, along with many others, but the problem is that if you have to get rid of anyone that has been associated with doping, you get rid of 99.9% of people that are DS, trainers, doctors etc...
You can't get rid of Riis and expect someone clean to replace him as this probably doesn't exist. |

So Team Wiggins makes it debut in Normandy. Turned up at the presentation in unbranded shorts and the wiggins jersey and took the prologue in unbranded fully black skinsuits! It's not like they haven't had since January to prepare for this. All looks very half arsed from the team management at the minute

So they are plenty of space for sponsors to come on board? Makes sense to me

That's not entirely true as a clean out isn't a bad idea, new people without involvement in cycling isn't the worst idea out there. Anyway somebody who has been punished for there doping and admitted the mistakes is welcome in the sport but people like Riis who has gotten away with it and throwing back in our faces can be shown the door
