Ffs... everyone in cycling doesn't like you McQuaid. Get over it. Just leave forever.
I have this sinking feeling that he will win the election. He has the Asian and African federations pretty much sown up thanks to spreading the sport to those areas (and this is a good thing that he has done, I might add, even if it comes at the expense of the European calendar). I'm sure that at least a few European federations will support him for whatever reason (personal favours, hope for their own advancement), etc. So out of 42 delegates that would put him at:
Africa - 7
Asia - 9
Europe - 3 (estimating, I'm not sure which federations are voting but I find it hard to believe that all 14 of their delegates will go to Cookson).
Total - 19
All 3 of the Oceania people are supporting Cookson and most of Europe will too. So that leaves the 9 delegates from the Americas. I think the North American ones are likely to go to Cookson (certianly USA is, and I'm not sure if Canada gets a vote) so it will come down to the South American ones. Given that Colombia has had a good period lately it is possible that they will wan to stick with McQuaid. Not only that but a lot of the other South American delegates will probably like the globalising of the sport, whether they are getting it already or not.
So that means that of the 8 unaligned Americas delegates, McQuaid only needs to get 3 assuming he can chip a few European delegates away.
Also if you are curious read this article:

He is changing the rules to his own advantage, it's about time he went and let someone who loves the sport to take over |

Milan SanRemo 2014: Le Manie out, Pompeiana in.

Will probably mean a larger group reaching the Cipressa, but then 3 climbs in the final stages rather than 2, to make it harder for the sprinters.

Not a huge surprise really, it has been moving towards being a race for puncheurs for a little while now.

About the McQuaid article, nothing is a surprise, really. It was more than obvious. |

Interesting. Pompeiana is softer than Le Manie, but it comes quite later in the race, with more kilometers accumulated in the legs of the riders, so it could become tougher, moreso as it's well connected with Cipressa and Poggio.
Still, in principle, I liked the previous route more, as it forced the non sprinter teams to break the race earlier, but we'll have to see how the race pans out in the new route.

While they forget about an outsider that doesn't do much, is in form of his life, sits on their wheels and takes it in last 100 metres.
That's even more plausible ;D

"World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) president John Fahey has announced the introduction of a "steroid passport" by the end of the year as the latest weapon aimed at drug cheats."
"WADA is certain to double the ban for drug cheats from two to four years for first offenders at its congress in Johannesburg, South Africa, in November."
Hopefully these two points will act as a major deterrent for all athletes.

I really don't like the MSR route, there are enough hilly classics, they should force the sprinters teams to control it and the Cipressa + Poggio should still be grounds for a outside chance.

So, they are saying steroids didn't show up in the bio passport with this???
This doesn't seem to effect cycling that much, would maybe have an effect in track cycling but there are a lot more effective drugs for road cycling.
