Its been a busy couple of weeks. Of course it got off to the greatest start with Marcin soloing to a National Championship! He rode a perfect tactical race and fully deserved to win. The time trial went well for Michal but Bodnar was just on another level. Still he is young and his win will come.
But moving on to transfers! We have two riders retiring at the end of the season, which opens up two spaces. Malcolm also wants to increase the squad size to 16 for next season, which will allow us to field two 8 man squads at the same time. Of course that thinking is aimed at a PCT space. So thats 4 spaces to fill with riders. And i have been working almost non-stop to fill those spaces.
And i am happy to announce our four signings for the 2014 season. We built a shortlist of 7 riders to target. 2 of them signed with other teams and one of them resigned late. But we secured those other 4 riders.
1st up is Peter Kennaugh! Olympic Gold medalist and current Sky rider. Peter will sign for 2 years.
2nd up is Thomas Moses! Currently a Raleigh rider, Thomas is promising cobbles talent.
3rd up is Edward Laverack! Currently a Rahpa rider and 18 years old. We don't know how he will develop but he will.
4th and finally is Felix English! Currently also a Rapha rider, Felix is a promising sprinter.
All very good signings, focused on youth and the UK (and NI). We are very happy with the dealings and cannot wait for them to join us at the end of the season.
One final thing before i leave, James Sampson is currently not riding with the team. He started feeling ill in May, and last month was diagnosed with Mononucleosis. His estimated return would have been mid-september, and thus will not be riding again this season. We all wish him a speedy recovery!
Signing off
Last time we looked at the rankings, Node4 were right on course for promotion, and that was before the Tour Series and An Post Ras. Its been a bust time since then with lots of races for all the teams. August is International Month for Node4 with several races on the continent in the build up to the Tour of Britian, the big season closer for the squad.
Team
1st Accent Jobs ___ 1518pts
5th Node4 ________ 1098pts
17th Madison _____ 505pts
Rowe is flying the flag for us and the UK in the Individual. His 6 wins and many podiums and top10's promoting him well up the order.
Its nice to be high up as a team, 5th, but this is just for bragging rights as it has no impact on promotion.
Team
1st BMC Racing Team ___ 5682pts
15th/1st Team Europcar __ 2492pts
35th/16th Node 4 Rexona __ 641pts
41st/22nd EPM-UNE _______ 415pts
42nd/23rd Madison Genesis __ 377pts
Best ignore the individual ranking... So Team...
Of course we are way off the top teams, and even the top PCT/CT teams. Decent overall position, and well inside the promotion spots. But its hardly a done deal especially with no races after the ToB. So its fingers crossed time.
Hi! Again... i'm in the middle of a break from racing. Having put in a lot of work in the first half of the year it was agreed i would take a bit more of a break than the other riders, mostly due to my age and that they want to protect my potential. Which has meant a lot of training.
I have been out on a ride almost every single day since the Wales GP. Lots of climbing work has gone in on the roads around Stoke, especially Gun Hill. I have also been taking a few trips out to Essex to ride some of the roads of the Maldon Dengie Tour. I fell my development has been coming on leaps and bounds in this time. Ok i won't be as good as Michal up a climb, or as fast as Rowe in a sprint, but i should start to play a more key role from here on in.
But not everything has been good news. After more than a year, Lucy and i have broken up. Both our racing schedules are getting ever more full and there just isn't time or energy to make it work... Which sucks...
And to distract you from that, news about next season. With the recent rankings putting us, as a team, in a more precarious position than previously thought management has been doing some planning. If we do not get PCT expect there to be a radically new calendar taking us to new horizons. Speaking of rankings. Our push for PCT will come down to our ToB. So while international month was designed as a showcase for out sponors, it has shifted to full on form and fitness building.
And with that i bid you adieu for now. Two final things to look out for. 1st is an interview as part of a piece in Pro Cycling magazine, and 2nd is potential news about the U23 Worlds in Firenze.

Tour du Poitou Chantres - Stage 1
Villebois la Valette - Royan
Team: Magnier, Bialoblocki, Hammarling, Cronshaw, Rogers, Rowe, Davis, Williams
The stage is 178km long, very flat, and is all but guaranteed to end in a bunch sprint.
Lets jump in to halfway, you'll see why.
89km to go - There is a break of 9 leading the race. The main names are Se.Chavanel(EUC) and R.Perez(EUS). 2'35 behind them is a large E2 of 15 riders. This group includes Lastras(MOV), Cronshaw Rogers Davis(N4R), Traksel(CSS), Vantomme(CRE) and Ilesic(UHC). 3'08 behind them is the peloton.
The pace has not dropped below 40km/h all day!
E1 of 9 riders
E2 if 15 riders
60km - The two lead groups join together. So now 24 riders have 3'28 on the peloton which is being lead by UHC
44km - The race enters is final quarter. The gap has decreased to 2'44 as OPQ start to aid the chase.
20km - The gap is now down to 1'19. 5 riders have dropped back to the peloton, including all three Node4 riders.
The peloton can see the break
10km - The gap is still dropping, down to 41" as Node4 punch to the front in the form of Hammarling
8.8km - The catch is made, and Node4 try and slice a path round the break. Its all getting messy at such high speeds
6km - The inevitable happens... There is a major crash in the back third of the field. Several riders are down but no time to look as the race is still on up front.
3km - FDJ are leading on the left. Node4 are lined up down the middle. UHC are under the trees on the right.
The Lead-Outs are in full flow
1000m - And its all got messy again. The sprint is on now and its every man for himself!
The riders fly in the shade
FINISH - Bonnet wins by 2 lengths. Forster takes second ahead of Giraud in third. Rowe grabs 4th and Lequatre a surprise 5th
Bonnet celebrates a great win

Comment
That was a mental stage! Fast and furious all day long. In the end very happy with 4th, as we burnt up the lead out too early, and there is some strong competition. I had a great day and am feeling good. If i am to get to the U23 worlds i need a good race here.
This will be quick, as the game fucking pissed me off by being a total piece of ass wipe
Stage 2
Eeckhout wins in the rain.
Rowe finishes a magnificent 16th after recovering from 50+ entering the final 1km.
Everything was on target until the break was caught with 9km to go. Then suddenly our train, and only our train, got caught behind them and blocked to nearly the back of the peloton. Then couldn't fight back because of blocking...
Short 100km stage. Very flat and very likely to get a sprint finish.
Things were going well with the break caught, then the team got into a bad position and everything went wrong...

188km stage. Definitely the toughest with several climbs and a slightly lumpy finishing circuit. But it is still expected to be a sprint.
Much better day. We managed to stay ahead towards the finish, and only lost out in a tight sprint to better riders on the day.

Comment
Not a bad race overall. Ok so our lead-outs were terrible, but its a learning process. I put in a much better tt than i hoped for as well. This is all part of the build to the ToB.
