Rodriguez has said in an interview that he will leave Katusha if they don't get a WorldTour license, even if they still get a wildcard for the TdF, because he wants to race all big races like Paris-Nice, Flèche Wallonne and Liège-Bastogne-Liège. He also said his next team will be a surprise.

Also from the same source: Gilbert won't start in Omloop het Nieuwsblad.

Katusha wins the decision with CAS and states that the team should be back to WT.

One team out of WT then, if this stays this way. Sucks a bit for that team.

That isn't fair against the other WT teams if you remove one of them now

Think they might have 19 teams in the WT this year then? |

Chinese WT stripped of WT-status, only Beijing is left and is moved up the calendar. |

If they keep 19 WT teams, this might cause problems for the Wildcards. In especially the Giro for example, who would need to ride with 23 teams then. Quite a big peloton.
Argos and Saxo? Or what two teams were the lowest? |

Saxo by some margin.

Indeed, it isn't really fair for the team that will be removed to me

It wasn't fair to not include Katusha in the first place, so i think its a "fair" re-balance in that case...
Were Katusha at the TDU? and if not surely they can argue something about not having the same opportunity to score points (not that they will need it)...
And i fully expect the UCI to get rid of Saxobank, who will then counter argue something about unfairness and set-up, race planning etc...Which there is a high chance they would win, when supported by the strong roster they possess.
What a massive cock-up by the UCI!!! Can't have a 19 team WT as that then fucks with the already announced wild-cards, where often a team would have to be un-invited as those races surely wouldn't be able to accomodate such a large field...
It might be about time to just get rid of the UCI and start over...

i don't really see how 23 instead of 22 teams would make so much difference.

Remember the crashes in last year's Tour de France? Now add one more team of riders, team cars etc., and you'll understand why it can become an issue. |

In other news Andy Schleck withdraws from Tour de Haut-Var. Trained we but RLT don’t want to take a risk just yet

Imo, those crashes didn't happen because of the high amount of riders/teamcars but because it's the Tour de France. I can't remember seeing all these crashes in the Giro or Vuelta where the exact same amount of team and riders started.

Rumour is ASO might be dropping the rider limit to 8. I doubt it though.
The UCI has said that if Katusha succeeded, then another team would be removed. This opens up the problem that the team removed can then follow the same processes that Katusha has, and fight their way back into the WT. I think that the UCI have found themselves in a bit of a pickle thanks to some foolish decisions...
Edit: Fixed up some English.

Better is to move on with 19 teams, and not make a ridiculous situation.
So, we’ll have more teams this year, that's all. Better than kicking off a team after almost 2 moths. |

No cigar for Lampre then. Now the most logical move would be to relegate Argos (it'd be more logical to relegate Euskaltel obviously, but they assured their WT status with their "star" signings).
Good stuff, specially the 6 men teams. I hope this is soon extended to all WT races.
