Sponsor to be announced at the end of the Tour

As it's already known the current sponsor of the team didn't want to have it's name made public for 2013. It looks that is going to change now as an official statement regarding the name of the sponsor behind Project 1t4i will be made after the Tour de France.

There are plenty of speculations around this subject in the pack. Most believe that the sponsor is either a brewery or a bank.

There's been little reports regarding the team since the end of the Giro, but, as always, you can find a complete list of the most important results here.

Actually, my plan is to make the team have even more Dutch riders next season. But I will avoid signing those who have connections with Rabobank, hoping that will help our crashing "situation" Pfft

Well if you expect to crash less I don't know if a bank or a beer sponsor would be the right idea.
The first thing can crash and the second one can make you crash Wink

I have a rare Dutchman who has no rabo connection. Handy sprinter and TTer as well. You may remember him. Pfft

Didn't think of that.

But I don't think we can crash more than at the moment so it can't get any worse Pfft

He'd be really interesting with a higher flat stat. His sprint stat won't mean much in the PT so all he could is be a flat domestique Pfft

Sponsors revealed

With a rather disappointing Tour de France behind us, as promised, it's now time to reveal the name of the sponsor behind Project 1t4i.

After Jack Wolfskin decided to withdraw their support at the end of last season, a powerful Dutch sponsor decided to take over the team. But the name of the sponsor wasn't revealed to the public and the team rode the 2013 season as Project 1t4i. It's now time to reveal the name of the sponsor...

Even though the team doesn't have it's best season, Shell decided to maintain their sponsorship for the 2014 season.

But that's not the only good news regarding 1t4i's finance department for the next season. Last week a new powerful sponsor was brought on board. The new sponsor will co-finance the team with Shell. And that sponsor is...

Banca Transilvania is one of the most important banks in Romania and will bring important money into the team as long as a few Romanians will be in the roster.

Since it was impossible to find a good name by combining those of our sponsors and wanted to avoid a Saxo-Tinkoff situation, the team will continue to ride as Project 1t4i, but both sponsors will be clearly seen on the jersey next year.

Well, I quite like the idea of having the team named Project 1t4i. That way I can change sponsors without changing the team's actual identity Smile

Project 1t4i and Swedbank-PEAB team up for Tour de l'Avenir

The connections between 1t4i and Swedbank-PEAB are a very well known fact in cycling these days, with Michel Kreder joining Swedbank this year and G. A. Stancu spending his first pro year with the Swede team.

The collaboration between the teams will continue with the French race for youngsters Tour de l'Avenir. As a result Mohammad Saufi Mat Senan and Wesley Kreder will join George Alexandru Stancu and a few northern young guns at Swedbank.

All hopes rely on Gesink

Following the team's worst Tour de France ever, we are now standing less than 300 points away from the first relegation place. Our first Tour de France without stage wins marks one of the darkest moments in the team's history. The team has never been so close to the relegation zone so late in the season before.

This has led to a lot of negativity around the team and many wonder what has happened. It looks like Ruben Plaza and Dominique Cornu are really missed in the team even though Luis Leon Sanchez and Peter Velits have both brought in some very good results. While the first one lost a top 10 in Vuelta after inexplicably falling short in the final week of the race, the Slovakian only missed a top 10 in the Tour due to terrible bad luck.

So where are the problems then?

Many bad mouths say it was a poor management decision not to bring Robert Gesink to any Grand Tours this year. But that is clearly contradicted by the amount of points the Dutchman has managed to score so far, even though he had his share of bad luck in Romandie and Dauphine. With still a few important races to go, "Big Bob" already passed the 1000 points mark thanks to his domination in Vuelta al Pais Vasco and a top 5 in La Doyenne.

With GP Liechtenstein, Deutschland Tour, Copenhagen - Malmo TTT, Tour of Tasmania and Giro di Lombardia in his calendar for the last part of the season, it's clear that Gesink will play the most important role in Project 1t4i's battle to avoid relegation.

Gesink will have to dig deep if he wants to save his team's season

Compared to other teams flirting with the drop zone your team seems to have enough firepower left to keep up as i'd expect you to overhaul at least Lotto-Cervelo and stay clear of B&O and Puma-SAP with Pluchkin and Bennati having few race days left. So i wouldn't say your in too much trouble

Bushwackers
I think jt is right. It looks like Gesink has plenty of race days and races that he is a favorite for.

alexkr00
Yes, you guys are probably right, but the danger of relegation has never been so close as it is now for me. I think the most important race will be the Tour of Germany. Gesink has a good chance to win that one and put the team in a safe spot.

Castroviejo shines in Norway

The Tour of Norway isn't exactly the most exciting race in the calendar with mostly flat stages and a few hills here and there. But this year it proved to be a very interesting race for Project 1t4i.

From the start it was clear that the team leader, Jelle Vanendert won't be able to fight with the big guns for the first places, but a top 10 would be a very realistic result.

And after the first 2 uphill finishes, Jelle was sitting right outside the top 10. He started in that position the final stage of the race, where everything was going to be decided.

But it was a rather strange stage. A breakaway of 13 riders got clear at the start of the day and despite the efforts of some of the strongest teams in the pack, they weren't brought back. Project 1t4i's Spanish talent, Jonathan Castroviejo was one of the escapes.

Three riders in the breakaway weren't far away in the GC and Castroviejo was one of them. Frank, Castroviejo and Pichon were all less than 3 minutes behind the yellow jersey and all moved into the top 10 at the end of the day, with Frank and Castroviejo taking the first two places in the general classification.

An impressive result for Jonathan Castroviejo, which means that we can expect great things from him in the future. The designated leader before the race, Jelle Vanendert finished 15th.
