Unsure if mentioned but after the excitement of the Giro coming to the town of Modena, a few weeks later terror for its people as an earthquake struck the surrounding area also. Italy are really having it tough Sad

There is the translated news. Bad news for south american cyclists.

It's nothing new. If an old South American cyclist wins a race, he's usually caught positive shortly after. Feels like I've seen it a lot of times these last few years.

Meanwhile, it turns out that Theo Bos had a fractured vertebra after his fall in stage 2 of the Giro d'Italia. Bos has to take it easy the coming weeks, he says.

EPO? Come on, they can do better than that, that's so 90s! Pfft
Wonder how long they'll be banned.

Vaughters...

Jonathan Vaughters
@fmk_RoI if I were Liquigas, Nibali would not be going to the Tour. Sorry. Why would any team invest in a guy that is one foot out the door?

If he wins/achieve something noticeable, that's still good publicity for Liquigas.
Better use his skills to their profit for as long as they can.
No point paying him the last six months of his wage if they don't even use him.
Vaughters is plain wrong here.

Well he has a point. The Tour is far from being a priority to Liquigas, so Nibbles is the one profiting the most with a WT team backing him up in France, even though you might not consider him deserving of such position.

Vaughters is being a drama queen though. Should they just pull him off of the Tour, because he didn't want to renew his contract? Well, that would be really stupid!

Besides Liquigas needs a strong enough result to clean Basso's disappointing Giro.

i dont think its a revenge thing, but the fact that liquigas will get more uci points next year if they do better with sagan and/or a gc rider than if nibali does well. if they want the sponsor to renew or get a new one then they need to look towards the future; show people that they can be successful without nibali

And to think that Vaughters was really pissed last year about that system where riders take their points to the new team. One year later and he's just as bad in his opinions as UCI itself.

Or he's trying to make a point at how bad the current system is, which I can agree with him on.

Obviously I'm a big fan of the Iranian riders but they shouldn't be riding PT. The PT teams that signed them just wanted them for their points, and not what they can actually do. I dont see them riding any important races.

I don't see anything controversial in Vaughters' tweet.

If they know Nibali is on his way out, it also means his points are gone for the team. In order to be sure of a World Tour license they need as many points as possible, thus it'd make much more sense to back up Sagan or anyone else who they know is staying on the team.

Obviously, in this case, it's publicity vs. points, but Vaughters is just making the point that the system is plain wrong.

Points should either be divided 50/50 between the team and rider, or they should be given twice - once to teams, once to the rider. As it is now, the system doesn't take into account that Nibali - and anyone else - isn't doing everything by himself, but is supported by a bunch of domestiques who give up their own chance of glory - and points - for their leaders.

I agree with this completly, when team is supposed to sacrifice many riders for the team leader, at least a half of that points should stay in the team.I found the Vaughters criticism very valid.
And especially in Liquigas, where we have seen some double-leadership problems with Sagan/Nibali in last two years (conflicts of interests between stage/points and GC).
I'll be back

I like the 50/50 idea but the only problem I can see is how incredibly difficult it would be for great Pro Continental teams to promote simply because they haven't got access to the same number of races and if their new signings will only provide the same number of points as the team they are coming across from, there is no way they would have enough to do it. The system needs a complete overhaul really but the question is how?

I think that paragraph made sense.

Easy. End the World Tour. Have the top 10/12 teams be automatically invited to the races they want, and let the organizations decide the rest.

And bring back the World Cup.
