Just wondering, is there a reason why Spartacus' best result from the U23 TT was silver in 2000? Just think it's kinda odd seeing as how we won the Junior WC in '98 and '99.
PT riders can't ride U23 races
Not even the World Championship?
Nope, hence why Matthews, Sagan Phinney etc. are not riding the U23 worlds.
According to the Mapei manager he promoted Cancellara straight from Junior to Senior because doping at U23 level was much worse than at Senior level

Durbridge champion, no big surprises there. Now, Hepburn fell, didn't he? How much time did he lose? |

Gotta say, I'm a bit dissapointed by Laengen. I did think he was good enough for a top 10, but he didn't even make the top 20. I wonder if he had an accident or something?

No less than 30s imo. The fall costed him the silver, and who knows how close to Durbridge he could have been.

Hamelink's TT bike was stolen. WTF? Why do people do that?

U23 evolved from the amateur category and obviously Pro riders were not allowed to ride that.

But amateur isn't the same as U23. So shouldn't riders from the World Tour be allowed to start in the U23? |

You could argue it, but it keeps the field more even, as otherwise someone like Sagan would be hard to beat 4 years in a row, which would be no fun, especially as it is really a tool for helping young cyclists get exposure on the world stage. Once you are good enough to be very competitive you step up and new people can challenge.

The mix up here is some people not getting what the name "U23" stands for.
It doesn't mean it's a category for anyone under 23. It's a category for any amateur rider that also happens to not be past 23 yet.
The preceding post is ISSO 9001 certified

The best cycling experience for me ever was today!! Copenhagen just went crazy when Quaade crossed the line, epic epic epic. Hopefully it gets even more crazy wednesday and in the weekend.
Way to go Quaade, really good TT! |

Not be 23 in the year, it's not about your accurate birthday date (day).
As for "amateur", I think it's non Pro Tour that matters nowadays, if you're pro in a Continental Pro team you may take part (or is it Continental ?). |

Pro-Continental is allowed - Dan Martin took part for Garmin when they were.

I am really looking for how M.Sablikova will do today for Czech Republic in TT. I like these athletes trying to achieve great things in two or more sports, especially summer/winter sport combination is admirable.
