EPIC - Season 1 Part 2
Cycleman123
Giro d'Italia

Preview - Argos

The Team

Josh Burton
Tom Dumoulin
Nikias Arndt
Luka Mezgec
Simon Geschke
Patrick Gretsch
François Parisien
Bert De Backer
Tom Peterson

Arguably not the strongest team, they do have the squad required to produce some good results.

GC

Never a team for climbing, they have made a few additions to their squad which can give some good results. With Burton and Geschke here, they can compete for stage wins but they shouldn't get a good GC result.

Sprints

Ever the sprint team, Argos have Mezgec here and with the lack of stars here he could certainly achieve results.

Other

With maybe not much to fight for, we could see Argos go for the KoM classification, with a lot of inconspicuous domestiques.

My sources tell me that Burton actually won, just ahead of Dermot Walker. Cool

Don't you think it was the other way around? I mean, it's kinda Walker's specialty to achieve sponsor goals, save the day and get the girl, right?

Looks like breakaways are the way to go for Argos

Should I maybe open up a seperate Giro thread, since it might take a lot of space?
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Yes, definitely. I was going to suggest that earlier actually but forgot. Definitely a good idea to stop other races getting swamped.

Look at that amazing squad!

Maybe have a thread just for reports and then we can discuss the stages in this thread still?

Stage (and maybe even Discussion) in a separate thread is a wise idea.

Seems as if most people are going to be in favor of a Giro thread regardless of what it's uses will be atm

Pretty sure that I can recover the results based on the save so I think you should upload it/PM it to me and I'll try and have a look.

Yeah I'd like that too. It would also help me a lot if I need to reference to other stages Smile

Stage 6

After 12.5km the first attacks occur. They are from Vicioso & Morkov.

They are joined later by Hagg, Al Mohney and Mazzanti who are then joined by Vachon and Othman.

They are all caught after 30km.

Proni then tries a solo break, and when he gains some time Vachon and Isaychev try to join him.

The Russian rolls over the sprint point first.

Proni is the only one who attacks for KoM points but Vachon stills takes them.

Here, Gesink and Deignan attack.

The break is caught with 7km to go. Gesink is away while Deignan attacks in an attempt to keep up.

Gesink hits the last climb ahead. De Ieso isn't really close to the front and is in serious danger of losing his GC lead.

With 2.5km to ride, Niemiec and Peeters get close, and the Italian leader is quite far back.

The sprint starts with 1.5km to go. Rolland is leading out Peeters, despite being dead.

Niemiec has more stamina, and pulls ahead. The Europcar boys are catching.

But the Pole is too good! Gesink narrowly hold on for 2nd, a great finish. We don't see De Ieso, where is he?

All the way in 21st. There's the GC gone for him.

I'm fairly sure I can extract the missing stage results from the autosave if you upload it/PM it to me. At least it's fairly simple in PCM11-cdb's and I don't think much have changed in that part of the DB

That was the last stage I think.

Congratulations to Lampre. They are on a real stroll as of late. Just in time for the Giro d'Italia. Wink

Race report

The first rider to set a time today is Paul Voss (TNE) with 14min20. It seems likely this time is going to last for a very long time.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM0974_zps2e443264.jpg

A more competitive time is set by Cristian Muriel (AG2) with 14min03.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM0975_zpsd9933bbb.jpg

Evgeni Shalunov (AND) improves that time with 14min02.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM0976_zps3bafbf14.jpg

Cameron Meyer (OGE) is the first to set a time faster than 14 minutes: 13min42.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM0977_zps5509e49d.jpg

Michael Rogers (TST) disappoints: 14min04.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM0978_zps2b944daa.jpg

Tanel Kangert (AST) also doesn't manage to beat Meyer: 13min46 is good for a provisional second though.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM0979_zps51f5a6fa.jpg

Nicholas Roche (TST) is also unable to beat Meyer today: 13min51 is the time of the Irish.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM0980_zps0ab81524.jpg

Wilco Kelderman (BEL) then. Can he beat Meyer? No! 13min45 for him.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag31/Selwink/EPIC%20Reports/PCM0981_zps871d3ae8.jpg

Jordan Lewis (BMC) finally ends Meyer's lead! 13min41 is the new best time.

You did good on the report I think.

Almost a top 10 for Samuel. Hopefully that means he is fit and ready for this one!

Very nice report, some awful conditions for the riders though. Another Porte vs. Contador showdown. (Does Jaxika save Froome for TdF and Vuelta?)
