Also, two more things: Spanish steps (trinita dei monti) is worth a visit, and you should definitely go trolling the street salesmen, the latter is most important.
Haha, the latter placed on my bucket list!
@jihardy: Congrats, mate

Something I wrote and send in to the national newspaper 'Het Nieuwsblad'. They published it, too. Wanted to share it with you guys (but then the English version)
We're paralysed by fear. The threat of terrorism has made a huge impact, worldwide. I wish to inform you that the threat of the climate change is a million times more pressing. Global warming might not carry a firearm, it's an enormous explosive situation nonetheless. Once that bomb drops, there's no way back. We're already at the limit, let's not push it anymore. Don't be blind for the big challenge we're all facing. Politicians worldwide, but also you and I, have to put the climate at the top of our agenda. We have to fight this threat that can wipe civilisation off the face of the planet. No, I'm not talking about terrorists.
Don't get me wrong. Terrorism etc is a terrible thing. This is more a reaction to the general fear (at least here in Belgium) and how ridiculous that is. We should be afraid for our lives, yes, but for different reasons |

So tomorrow I will have finished my thesis and can print it.
I eventually have underestimated the needed time when starting in September/October and so it was pretty stressful since Mid December with lots of mini changes. But finally it`s more or less over.
Can really recommend anyone, who is sooner or later writing his/her thesis, to save a few days between last expected changes and date of printing as usually there are lots of small things you don`t think about. |

The realisation that many of the top users have left the site (or so I assume) is somewhat depressing. So many of the top posters haven't posted in months or aren't even active anymore, a few coincidentally not active since not long after Mike stepped down.
I hope a few might return when the cycling season gets back into full swing, but I'm doubtful.
Sigh.

Agree with you there it is a shame that they are not visiting here any more and they are certainly missed, so lets hope that they will return one day and soon |

Very true, well written and good on you for getting it in the paper.
Also, congrats to roturn, not at that stage of study yet but it sounds like a huge achievement!

Was actually considering buying a few the other day(here) But realised price/quality is not good enough and it doesn't really add much to my house
Those in your link look a bit better though.

Good thing you decided not to buy cause the quality seems quite poor.
I guess if we wait long enough someone will come up with some quality ones. Or maybe they are already being made and we just need to dig deep enough into the soul of the Internet to find them.

Well, looking at Ollfardh, I imagine almost all of that is EPIC stuff, which is probably the same reason for my recent rise in posting. However, in this case I most certainly agree with you. There is a fine line between productive and spam (which I am probably crossing right now ) and the two at the top of this leaderboard certainly need to learn to tip toe around it a bit more
You mean Sutty? I have literally never seen him writing a post above 2 lines
Too bad I am the bottom feeder though, can probably be explained by the fact that I dont play man-game or whatever which the rest of this community seems to do and the cycling season just barely is started now which probably is the only reason I am here.. |

Not directed at you, but all this talk about posts reminds me of my biggest failure as site owner: not implementing a system that valued actual contributions higher than posts.
I had the idea, and it was 'planned' with AaB-ern, but we (or he - I can't really do anything ) never had the time to actully build it.
Basically, it'd work like a points system. You'd get X amount of points for posting, but also X amounts of points for submitting a screenshot, a stage, a shirt, a tip, a comment, placing a bet, etc. We could also implement a syetem where you could "like" a post (eg. a helpful one, a good debate, whatever useful), and those likes would result in extra points.
Obviously, you'd be getting a lot more points for e.g. submitting a shirt than just posting something in the forum.
We'd eliminate the post count - no mention of it anywhere - and replace it with the points number instead.

That'd be an interesting system, for sure. Though you'd have an overflow of crappy submitted screenshots and half-finished stages and shirts |
