Spoiler Big thanks to Maddrengen for Stijn's National Champion Jersey. And thanks to Atlantius to pointing the existence out to me!
Tour de France 2013 - Stage 2
Now that we got the prologue out of the way, we can really start racing!
A "flat" stage, they say. Very close to the finish, there's a major road "bump". Curious how this'll play out.
Everyone was ready for the start!
Westra was the first attacker in this 100th Tour! Unfortunately for him, he didn't last very long in the attack.
Bouet will be the first one to wear the Mountain Jersey!
I spend the day enjoying my very subtle Young Jersey, in the company of Costa and Geniez.
The pack ripped in half near the end, luckily we were attentive and we didn't lose time!
My first chance to show of my new jersey, let me know what you think! I've never been more proud in my life.
Today I learned the meaning of suffering. Well, of course I've suffered in Roubaix, but this is something different. The constant attacks and accelerations, the pace that never drops, the nervousness!
Veelers became the victim of the bumpiness of the stage and lost my wheel. I was on my own. I didn't participate in the intermediate sprint so I had that advantage, though. I'm not here for the Green Jersey, I'm focusing on becoming a worthy sprinter first!
By some miracle, in all the chaos, I wound up in Sagan's wheel! He went extremely hard and started his sprint on the uphill section.
I couldn't hold his wheel, but there's no shame in that, he won with bike lengths in front of Valverde, who made his move on the final uphill.
I made the top 10 and finished 9th. And I'm the first Belgian, so I reckon I didn't do this jersey any dishonor today!

Great start for Stijn, just a bit too hard for him. Although Sagan will be very hard to beat in general.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Jesleyh - Thanks a lot I thought it was a good result! I really like the jersey, too! In the next report: Gesink's French ( ) NC Jersey!
Ollfardh - Sagan will be going strong. Stijn's here for top 10 places, though, so that was already amazing
PCM rulezz - Thanks! I sure hopes he can have a few victories in that jersey Maybe I should peak for the Omloop next season
sutty68 - Glad to hear that, all credit goes to Maddrengen! Thanks |

Tour de France 2013 - Stage 3
Another day at the Tour! We're still not getting used to this, what an amazing experience it's been so far. Stijn's getting himself noticed in his jersey in the sprint, but today will be up to Costa and Willy!
This is a tough stage, don't let it fool you. Big differences will be made already.
The breakaway of the day got 4 minutes maximum.
The route was really difficult and climbing isn't my strong suit... I tried to keep my head cool and stayed around the other sprinters.
I ended up in the grupetto and we finished safely on time, only a quarter behind the winner. Tomorrow is pancake flat, so it'll be a chance for me and/or Veelers!
The two hills near the end would be so decisive, I was sure to lose some time today!
Ryan Eastman took a very nasty fall! Luckily he finished on time, his injuries don't seem to be too bad, apart from his elbow.
Probably more of a precaution to stay on his bike in the nervousness, Gesink was the first to attack!
Costa had some problems with his stomach and asked me and Wegmann to guide him uphill on a fast pace, but without accelerations.
I launched him for the final sprint, but we were behind on the real favorites. Hope not to lose too much time!
But Valverde won the sprint among the favorites. We lost less than a minute, but that minute counts towards Paris...
Let's take a look at the result and the much changed GC!

dienblad - Thanks. A victory would be amazing. In the sprint it'll be hard, but the mountains aren't easy, too. I wonder!
Stromeon - At the moment, things are looking up! Stage 3 was real tough early on in the tour...
JuanMotr - Thanks. Indeed a nice shirt of Maddrengen
sutty68 - There will be some real tough mountain stages! Thanks
PCM rulezz - Sure it isn't. Especially with the TTT coming up! |

Tour de France 2013 - Stage 4
A second chance for the sprinters, this time more flatted out.
We see this is another chance for Stijn to profile himself as a real sprinter as well as a Classics rider. To show the world he's just as fast as he is tough!
Boonen had a flat and needed to be brought back by the team, they took a while though. The pace was high for the intermediate sprint and it took more than a quarter to return to the pack!
I spend some time with Costa today, talking about the team time trial tomorrow.
Yellow Jersey team Saxo Bank did all of the work here.
At the start of the race, before the attacks came, I had a brief chat with Contador, that was nice! He wished me good luck in the sprint and went to the front.
Two major lead-out trains were being set-up. One belonging to the fastest man alive, Mark Cavendish, the other to the new kid on the block, he's said to be the new king in the making, Arnaud Démare. I picked Farrar's wheel.
This was a sprint like I've never seen before. It was high-speed, all-risk and amazingly exciting. I cleared my mind of any thought and threw myself in the battle. I was fighting for the marbles!
I couldn't come any closer, but didn't really lose any terrain either! I felt like I was flying! Démare took a win for the home country!
What an amazing result! If I can move up one more spot, I'll be on the podium here! Maybe one day I can be a worthy mass sprinter as well as a classics rider.
