Petronas - Monster Energy; The end of an era

The first stage of the Driedaagse is traditionally for the cobbled-riders. The 199 kilometres between Middelkerke and Oudenaarde contain a lot of cobbles-section, hills and cobbled-hills.
img11.imageshack.us/img11/179/1route1.jpg

A group of 12 riders get some space from the peloton and create a maximum gap of 9 minutes. In it are some decent cobblers as Kurt-Asle Arvesen (Sky), Andreas Klier (Topsport) and Steve Chainel (FDJ). 32 kilometres before the finish, the gap is still 2'50.
img7.imageshack.us/img7/1017/2botd.jpg

Chainel has saved his legs a bit and attacks with about 20km to go. When he enters the last cobbled section, 10km before the finish, he still has a lead of '32. In the peloton, the pace drops, as the teams are looking at each other. Nissan and Monster did the pace, but none of the other teams (especially BMC and Lotto) are willing to help them.
img38.imageshack.us/img38/4624/310km.jpg

Because of the dropped pace, Niki Terpstra attacks out of the peloton, with the knowledge of our messed up sprints. Bu when he attacks, 6km before the finish, he still rides '38 behind Chainel.
img685.imageshack.us/img685/5616/46km.jpg

A reaction out of the peloton: Lars Boom (Rabobank) counterattacks, and he will be followed by Fabian Cancellara.
img196.imageshack.us/img196/7038/55kmo.jpg

The 3 attackers merge 1km before the finish, but Chainel still has a 10-second lead. From behind, some Norwegian thunder is coming, and it's coming fast!
img23.imageshack.us/img23/6709/61km.jpg

But Chainel is continuing the good strike by his team (Jeanneson and Bonnet in the Critérium International) and takes the win in Oudenaarde! Boom gets 2nd, Hushvd 3rd and Terpstra 6th. Oh well, our best result in a WT or 1.HC race this year!
A group of 54 riders finish within the same timeas Chainel, including 7 of our team, so all things are open for the gC.

Word from the DS
We are pretty satisfied with today's race. We knew that with our bad sprint abilities, we couldn't win it, so we tried to create some gaps with an attack. Unfortunately it didn't paid off, but we've seen that Terpstra is improving towards the Ronde.

Stage 2 is from Zottegem to Sint Idesbald..... Okay, not in PCM, there it is the TdF stage from 2011 to Cap Frehel...

Anyway, it's pretty flat, not very windy, so it'll be a mass sprint. We tried to set up a train, but all these riders got a very bad daily form, so not a chance for the stage win.
That win goes to Thor Hushovd. It's the first win of the season for last year's GC-winner, so he's getting his top form to win the Flanders-Roubaix once again. José Joaquin Rojas gets 2nd, Greg van Avermaet 3rd. Niki Terpstra finishes in 14th.

Stage 3 with start and finish in De Panne, only 100 kilometres long. So a mass sprint?
img838.imageshack.us/img838/1395/3eetappe.jpg

Well.... no. A 7-man break gets a few minutes and the peloton awakes too late. We have decided not to do anything, except to stay in the peloton. And that is difficult enough with a very strong wind (over 50 km/h).
Anyway, the 7 man breakaway is sprinting for the win, and CCC's Kamil Zielinski is the strongest. He beats Sky's Jeremy Hunt and David Moncoutié (Cofidis). Thor Hushovd wins the sprint f the peloton, 1'47 behind.

The Driedaagse De Panne - Koksijde ends with a 8km Individual Time Trial. As there are almost no gaps in the GC, this ITT will be more decisive than ever.
img100.imageshack.us/img100/6385/1etappe4.jpg

Best of our team is luckily our best placed rider in the GC, Niki Terpstra. The others have a lot of trouble with the string wind. But also Terpstra's race isn't good: 19th overall, one minute behind the winner.
img821.imageshack.us/img821/4458/2terpstra.jpg

The best time is set by Stijn Devolder, but it's crushed by the reigning TT-world champ Fabian Cancellara. He finishes the ITT after 11'10, and that's '42 faster than Devolder.
img151.imageshack.us/img151/3642/3cancellara.jpg

To win the Driedaagse for the 2nd year in a row, Thor Hushovd has to finish before the time of 11'27. But he fails in doing taht: 11'35.

Our team
img842.imageshack.us/img842/2452/6ploeg.jpg

Our goal
We want to be in the BOTD, not having to chase it. When it will end in a mass sprint, than Ligthart and Kittel aim for a top 3.

So the first task for our riders is to get in a breakaway. After some fruitless attempts, it's Wout Poels who manages to get in it. Together with Pavel Brutt (Rabobank), Pieter Jacobs (Jong Vlaanderen), Taylor Phinney (BMC) and Arthur Vichot (FDJ). The 5 don't get the gap they want to, the maximum is 5 minutes.
img543.imageshack.us/img543/2597/7botd.jpg

The peloton is slowly closing them in. 40 kilometres before the finish, they're just 3'29 behind. So Poels uses one of the last hills to launch his attack and nobody in the BOTD can follow him.
img16.imageshack.us/img16/4122/839km.jpg

He gets a maximum lead of 1 minute to his former breakaway-buddies. But 11 kilometres before the finish, his adventure his over. Arthur Vichot has attacked out of the chasing group and joins with Poels, and quickly leaves him behind. This is the sign for our team to start the chase in the peloton, to bring our sprinters in a good position.
img443.imageshack.us/img443/3378/911km.jpg

But before the peloton can catch all the breakaways. Jetse Bol (Rabo CT) attacks and overtakes the lead from Vichot.
img560.imageshack.us/img560/5772/108km.jpg

For a short moment, it looks like Bol can surprise the peloton, but when his powers start to fade, he gets caught pretty quickly. 3km to go.
img155.imageshack.us/img155/2834/113km.jpg

Robert Gesink is leading our sprint train, followed by Pim Ligthart as the last lead out for Marcel Kittel. But because of a bad daily form (-5), Ligthart isn't able to keep the speed up high, so Kittel has to start his sprint from too far behind. He is without a chance for the win, a 5th is the best possible. Cofidis' Samuel Dumoulin takes the win and shows his new jersey. ANthony Geslin (FDJ) taes the 2nd place, Stefan van Dijk (Veranda's) the 3rd.
